Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I was thinking during that game sparrow may need a rest but then he did that beautiful assist & played well.

Sick of reading on social media the Melbourne supporters didn't show up, there undefeated, the reigning premiers & typical Melbourne of there supporters. I'm putting it down to Easter, school holidays, people can now travel, people still hate the fact you just can't rock up & buy a ticket, the comedy festival was on, storm were playing & not everyone wants to come to a night game especially if you are relying on public transport to go home.

Anyway I thoroughly enjoyed it. Also have you noticed the stories about Goodwin and his bullying antics have suddenly stopped?

I think I saw a headline that said the February Goodwin bullying stuff was the catalyst for us playing well now (didn’t bother reading the article).

Then stupid Riewoldt making his not funny smartarse comment about there being snow causing the low numbers….

Look I partially agree with you, Easter weekend does tend to have a negative impact on crowd numbers. But at the same time we have been desperate for success, and desperate to own the spotlight as a “power”. I would’ve hoped for minimum 25k for this match, and possibly 30k+ on a regular weekend.

Are some of our fans too comfortable with us winning to come for these “lower grade” fixtures?

We just don't have as big a supporter base and we'll probably never catch the Richmond and Collingwoods of the league. The relatively low Round 1 crowd against the Lickers highlighted this (though interesting how much more it would've got if played on a Thursday or Friday). One flag doesn't magically get us thousands more willing to show up on a Saturday where many are away for the long weekend or attending mass.

Loved Kozzies running goal in the 3rd.
Got the ball on the wing and took off.
Was quite impressed with the chasing GWS players speed who put him under pressure for the kick to a leading player on the flank.
Off hands and there is Pickett again still at top pace without his GWS opponent to be seen who thought his job was done.

He’s got a big month ahead of him as someone is going to have to make way for Salem. Hunt’s spot makes the most sense right now.

Salem and Hunt both coexisted in the same team for most of last season as they both bring something quite different to the team.

With a near full fitness list there's probably half the side that will be need to right on their game and fighting to keep their spots.  The real beauty of how we are playing is that all those players see playing team first footy as the way to keep their spot, not being the superstar.

Its funny how different media outlets were different with who they had best on ground. Some had gawn as best, petracca was named as best on ground on a couple while others had may.

On channel 7 they gave trac best and gussy actually came on the coverage and said may said he should have got it. He was joking around but said as a defender now I have to stick up for my fellow backmen

It was utter chaos getting home. A while platform shut down at Richmond and all Pakenham line punters had to get off at Caulfield for buses, and their were none to be seen.

I walked away from the masses and was lucky a lovely taxi driver noticed me with my 2 kids and went out of his way to pick us up.

Disgraceful scenes at Caulfield, imagine if this was a 50k crowd!

Yep on the pakenham line. Waited for the bus to Oakliegh for about 20 minutes then at Oakliegh the next train did not come until 11.35. We got on the train which was suppose to leave at 10 to 12.00 but after about 5 minutes they announced this train was not going to be taking passengers. Back on to platform we got and waited until midnight for a new train which finally left at 12.05. Didn't get home until quarter to 1.00.

Apparantly what happen was a v-line train broke down near caufield and then another train was sent to pick it up and that train also broke down. And hence the following farce continued.

One of my favourite moments was when Steven may had two spoils in a row in front the mcc stand. When he got the first one nearly every single player jumped with excitement, fist pumped and ran over to him like he kicked a goal. We are still hungry as and I love it. Also, So many second efforts - kozzy, sparrow so on. Bring on Richmond!

Loved that too, May is such a fantastic player and it's great to see his teammates and supporters show the recognition for those actions. Got a monster round of applause when coming to the bench shortly after.

Trac seems to be able to do what ever he wants, even with 3 or 4 blokes hanging off him.
The confidence in each other is sky high and they just take the game on and know they can pile on the goals at any stage of the game.

Brilliant football  by our boys despite the putrid umpiring performance.

He definitely didn't seem to have any injury concerns last night. Can't believe I actually thought he wouldn't play 🤣

LOL.  I was tempted to mention that Umpy, too.  Was the one who disallowed Trac's great goal.  To avoid the sexist tag, I was gonna simply refer to "the umpy with the high voice..."  Made several terrible calls against us.

So many good performers. I loved Vineys game, thought he was a crucial cog at stoppages as GWS were giving it a red hot crack, particularly in the first half. Jack simply wouldnt let them get on top after the first.

Sadly the Weid hasn't turned up the past two weeks after a promising performance vs the bombers.

As for the crowd, 7 news headline this morning said 20% of Australians are interstate/overseas this weekend. I am in Melbourne from the UK, went to the bombers game, couldnt bring myself to go last night for what looked on paper a routine win. Taking two four year olds with a big family day today, keeping them up till 11pm last night is not really an option - im surely im not the only one in the same boat who chose to watch on tv instead. Call me fair weather after years of 3am alarms to see us get belted (and plenty of $$ put into the club) all you like

Anyway go dees 5-0

I said it at the time - Weideman kicked 4 on Jayden Laverde, who's a really ordinary player and not at all a natural defender.

The last couple of weeks he's played on better defenders - Jonas gave him a bath and Taylor/Haynes are very good.

Against this calibre of defender Weid is not up to scratch. The Essendon game showed us nothing new. It's why he dominates in the VFL against Laverde-style opponents.

Posters potting Weed have no idea.

He's been better than T Mac for the last three weeks. His impact at contests and pressure has been much better than Tom's and Tom has given away numerous stupid free kicks.

Watch Goodies presser. He basically says as much.

Weed won't be going anywhere.

Neither hold a candle to Brown, so one must go.  But I wondered if Goodwin was pumping up Weid's tyres to soften the blow of not picking him next week. We shall see.

I'm more than happy just to bank the 4 points at this time of year, but that being said, welcome back Perth Dees. We have missed you.

Kosi's third quarter goal will go criminally underrated. It's very rare to see that happen in a game of footy. And for good reason, it's simply incredible the amount of petrol tickets that guy is able to spend at one time. And then it was probably toppled by Sparrow's effort a short while later.

In 2019, not only was I strongly opposed to drafting Luke Jackson, but I also called the Steven May trade a "bust". You guys should just put me on ignore.

There were some moments where most of the team ran to a player to congratulate their effort:

  • Kozzie's first goal
  • May after the quick-in-succession hitouts
  • Sparrow tap backwards to Fritsch to goal

Its great to see them celebrate the rarer moments that help gel this team.

On a different note, Petty's reading of the flight of the ball and speed to react is awesome.  Saved a couple of certain goals last night.

Unfortunately for Tomlinson he's depth now and will only get a spot if there is an injury to either May or Petty.

Whilst I think Tomlinson hasn't done much wrong in the past few weeks he is still looks underdone and his turning circle is fairly slow.

Petty just picked up from where he left off last year and it's going to be extremely hard for the likes of Smith and Tomlinson to get a gig now.

Fraction of a toe?  It was flush on his boot. Surely DS you are not calling for umpires to make a decision based on whether they think the ball was deliberately dropped onto the foot or 'falls out of his hands'.    We don't need another new area for "insufficient intent" decisions.

I’m saying once you’re caught holding the ball you’re caught. If you then kick or handball it after the tackler has chased you down and conclusively tackled you then too bad.

Go watch old tapes from the 80’s, if a player had prior opportunity and was tackled that was it. Holding the ball. Done. Now the umpires wait to see what happens and it leads to sling tackles and concussions.

Player infringes, hands on head, exasperated at poor effort;

“I shoulda done better”

”I let my team down”

”My line coach won’t forget”

That’s UMPIRE DISRESPECT -

FIFTY!

I agree.  Petty has their abilities covered and his reading of the flight of the ball and reaction time are elite.

I recall when Taylor drafted him he said something like:  ...we don't really need another defender but he is so good we just couldn't go past him... and we took him at pick #37.  Taylor proven right yet again.

Sparrow.  Loved his run and continued running.

As described… “selfless, brilliant”. We were right behind it and stood to applaud Tommy Sparrow’s effort.  His goal !!

Another Trac in the making.

Was great to see Viney in fine form too.

Petty is an absolute gun Luci, he looks in terrific shape this year…was really noticeable. The few times May had a spell on the bench Petty was marshalling the troops as the deepest defender.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
