Dunstan hasn't exactly shined at VFL level but short of a major reshuffle like Brayshaw into the midfield and ?? into defence your suggestion makes sense.

Dunstan is an AFL Player. This is the reason he was recruited.

If Trac is out, Jordon becomes part of the midfield rotation, and Brayshaw moves back to the wing. Smith or Petty come in.

I'd rather see Laurie than Dunstan. I want us to give the newbies opportunities. If that means Jordon, ANB and Harmes spend more time in the midfield while Laurie stays forward, I'm fine with that.

Do that and you may lose half our backline rebound.

AFL  1ST players never fire in the twos,imagine bob flower playing at that level,it just wouldnt work.Dunstan is a 1st player same as ben brown and should get shot at the 1st.Bowey came in on ordinary form ,and proved he was above playing the 2s

And was surprised they did not do so as it pretty standard practice.

They really only ever rested Salem (and maybe Jackson a game?), who had a calf issue iirc for a number of weeks.

Indeed the evidence seems to suggest they are not - rivers for example clearly looks hampered as does tracc.

So I doubt trac, or anyone else for that matter will be dropped if they are sore or have minor to medium grade niggles.

I didn't say anyone should be dropped/rested.  My post was the opposite, noting the benefits of resting mids forward and rotating fwds and mids etc to preserve them physically.

In an earlier post I mentioned if Petracca's knee needs rest then rest him.  But certainly not for the sake of just giving him a rest.

 I've been a big supporter of the 'build physical resilience' philosophy.  It paid off handsomely in last year's finals.

Seems to me a few people here think GWS will be an easy kill and we can rest players, tinker with positions and gift younger players a game before they are ready etc.

I know they aren't fielding the same team as the one that beat us on the same ground last year but they do have some very good players and on their day are a tough opponent - there seems to be a touch of over confidence emerging

If (and I say if) the rumours are true that Gus is wanting more mid time, and if Trac is rested, and if we pick Dunstan to replace him, how do you think Gus would be feeling? I’d suggest he’d be pretty peeved which may not help his contract negotiations. You could argue that we should do what’s best for the team - yet Gus has been really performing at AFL level (possibly the best form of his career to date) while Dunstan has not been a standout in the VFL. With the option of both of Petty and Smith being available this week, that could free Gus to play in the mid, without weakening the backline. 
I believe Gus deserves first crack at the mid spot, if it’s available, and certainly well before Dunstan.

I agreed with your post and then went on to other points that were somewhat related to the topic you discussed (tracc's potential injury and managing minutes an loads in game etc)

Players (petracca) will simply not be rested - Burges philosophy is to push players past limits, not to rest them when they're a bit sore. They'll manage loads as needed in training.

You got that right Sydee.  I reckon this is the toughest match so far. GWS have higher quality all over the ground.  Theyr'e missing a few but are well coached and well-led now . Coniglio has come good.

Dogs are pretenders with a second rate defence, Bombers so-so. Power terrible.  GWS can be the goods this year and play with spirit at all times.

It’s not that there is necessarily anything wrong with the idea. Goody just doesn’t swing the magnets for an experiment like that these days. Partly, I think he learned his lesson with Fritsch in the early days. But mostly continuity of team and structure is a big part of what makes our full ground defensive press work so effectively.

$5.30 is ridiculous odds for a team that got us at the G last year. 

We'll also have some outs this time around, (as do they). I expect us to win but given we've really only been getting over the line thanks to our defence, we're definitely gettable atm. And if Trac is out, their Midfield would be licking their lips. That's where they could get us this week. 

Still expect to grind a result, but the odds are ridiculous.
