Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Where’s the incentive to develop young players if other clubs gain from the fruits of our labour?

Because the AFL and it's competing clubs need to do way more to support junior football, and not just at the higher levels.

It is too easy to cop out and use the pandemic as an excuse, but participation is down, standard of play is down, volunteer numbers are down, and interest in the game from juniors is down. The AFL and the clubs need to give more back.

Wasn't it top 20 last year, why would and when did that change?  Top 40 is pretty much the whole draft for most teams nowadays.

Yes, hence why the system is a rort..

Yeah agreed. Not sure why there should be any scaling for father son and academies?

You already have access to them, why also get it at a reduced cost than others would pay. Doesn't make sense.

Well said Action Jackson.

I think that was third eye's point.  Incentive to promote development.  Why bother if all the hard work goes elsewhere?

Alan Jarrott, a competitive and nuggety type who played 91 games for Melbourne in the 80s after crossing from North Melbourne, was from Moyhu.

The only other VFL/AFL recruit to hail from there was Hawthorn's John Hendrie, a forward who played in two premierships and who was more than a decent player.

Yep our NGAs may get picked and we can also pick Academy players of other teams if we want them and they are available at our pick

PMBangers from https://central.rookieme.com/ answers a question about Finn on a draft thread from bigfooty.

PMBangers I’m liking what I see with Emile-Brennan at Dandy. I’ve seen him play a couple of times now, again yesterday and IMO he will be exciting clubs with his run off HB. I know it’s early but I can see him becom a rnd 1 selection. What are your thoughts?
Yeah he really caught my eye in Round 1 vs Eastern, I've made the Wanganeen-Milera comparison with his movement and kicking at short to medium distances, uses it really well by hand and is surprisingly comfortable with contact for a slim frame, in comparison to some of the other medium defender options in the draft frame he's looking pretty high up, especially if he can keep improving each week. I could see him going first round if he gets an opportunity in the midfield, but currently I think a guy like Conrad Williams provides a similar skill set and he's more proven over time.

I'm from Moyhu.....unfortunately my footy credentials don't quite stack up against those  two! :)

I occasionally do my morning exercise on the oval-for some reason early morning its always wet that time of day-guaranteed wet socks and feet! :)  I'm a couple of klm's north of Moyhu but can see the lights on during training and can hear the boys calling for the ball. :)

Not being able to pick a player inside the top 40 is one of the more ridiculous drafting rules they brought in.

I can kind of understand the top 20 to an extent, but there is just no incentive to put any time or effort into the players if you lose access to them.

personally i think the father/son and all academies priority picks should be changed

make all the club for academies be more responsible for development activities (monitored and measured)

scrap all point discounts (getting priority is enough of an incentive)

all clubs to get priority (f/s or academy) but at the full points value bid (i.e. no discounts)

limit the number of priority picks in any year to 1

maybe not allow for future points to be used for priority picks (not sure on this one) or set a maximum future points limit

Personally,  I like the traditional of the father/son rule, but I think the academies should be abolished in as far as they currently exist.  Somewhat annoys me that we miss out on getting our cream, when others like the Bulldogs and Sydney have had their lick of the ice cream (and Sydney is still at the Ice cream shop lining up for more).  However, if it's not regulated and moderated, I could easily see this going back to be like the old 80s zone system, where those with the most productive zones consistently get the best players, or a higher proportion of them.

For the benifit of the game overall, I think it would be much better if the league/clubs put more money into developing elitle talents at TAC clubs etc and through providing more development and administration support at local grass roots weekend footy (excluding the private school boy stuff that is already generally funded and resourced to the hilt).  Could employ a bunch more of the ex/retired AFL level footballers and assist them to transition to life after football and still utilise and leverage their elite skills and professional sporting background to teach these same skills and ethos to the lower levels and next gen of up and commers.

Still going strong according to the latest Rookie Me Central scouting notes -

#13 Finn Emile-Brennan

The classy defender was able to produce some outstanding dash and drive out of defence, with a long booming kick. Though he made the odd rare mistake, when his kicking was on-point, it was deadly, and he was able to run hard in transition, showing clean hands and neat overall skills. Emile-Brennan’s best kick came in the second term when he was coming out of defence and managed to nail a long-range kick under pressure. He also showed strong evasion to avoid opponents at a stoppage, and always kept involved on his way to the second most disposals for his side.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
