Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I can't see our back 6 letting too many teams kick scores like 17.5 or 16.6 too often.  Such goal kicking efficiency is against teams with poor all ground defence and deficient back 6 players/strategy which is not us.   We consistently kept teams to 60 -75 points last year.  Don't see a reason for that too change.

It will be a while before other teams can copy our style of play with the same skill we do.  Geelong is a good example:  worked for them last week, failed last night when pressure was applied.  Our style withstands pressure and we apply lots of it especially i50.  Teams will perfect part of what we do but not sure many will develop all components of it in a hurry.

Better system AND better players. No club have a trio of defenders that come close to our defensive triumvirate of May, Lever and Salem

I thought that also.  Tuohy was walking slowly, the other guy was rushing and looking away from Tuohy and I'm not sure they saw each other.  imv Tuohy's push was a reaction to being surprised by the guy getting so close.

If this was the worst ‘misadventure’ resulting from that debacle, everyone there ought to count themselves lucky.
That circus was an open invitation to injury or even worse.

The old legs is old news!  Selwood gave away 4 frees, the first of which became a down the field free which, iirc resulted in an early goal for Sydney.  He did little for his team.

All that aside, my post you quoted was about their 'new', much hailed game plan which failed when pressure was applied.  They looked stuck between their old and their new method.  Neither worked.

What I'm getting at is they don't have the legs for the new game plan...good teams will pick them apart.

When the pressure came on they stated reverting to the old as you say.

...and whilst old news, it still seems to be new to Brian and his team of commentators along with many other experts.

I wonder what excuse Scott has this week for a poor performance? it's obvious Danger, Hawk & co must have had the flu again

Not sure how any number of "security" can stop 30,000 fans jumping the fence.

Agree that our defence is ahead of other teams in the comp and that the better teams won’t score as easy against us but still feel we miss to many gettable shots for goal.
Can’t find stats for season but as of June 8th last year our set shot kicking was 48% and the worst in the comp.
BBB cemented his place in team after that and our kicking in Prelim and GF probably improved our average but it’s still an area I think we will need to improve.
We dominated most of the top teams in the home and away last year but poor goal kicking often kept opposition in the game for longer than they should have been and we relied on our superior fitness levels to get the job done in the last quarter.

We’ll never know since they didn’t even make an attempt.
Anyways, at the very least they could’ve and should’ve  effected a cordon of security guards and/or cops around the players. It’s not rocket science and no laws of physics need to be broken.

The security were there to protect the players, not stop the crowd.

They failed miserably.

For all Gil's huffing and puffing about fines and don't run on the ground, why on earth didn't the AFL have a serious security plan for Buddy .  He was lining up for goal for 30 secs.  More than enough time to get a squad of fit security guys ready to rush the ground and encircle him. Some swans players tried but his teammates by and large failed in this too.

My memory later in the event was seeing Buddy's wife move from elation to possibly a look of major concern for his welfare.

A miracle no-one was hurt.

I saw that, my definition of "accidently" is slightly different to theirs.  As far as I can see from the footage, he was running straight at him...I'd hope an AFL player would have more situational awareness than that ...

Not a witch hunt as I have nothing against Tuohy but surely deserves a look??

Absolutely sensational moment with Buddy's goal and the crowd running on. Felt like we needed that to remind us that footy belongs to the fans, and an 'old school' footy moment like that did just that. The huge smiles from everyone involved, including Buddy, were unreal. I absolutely loved how it played out and that all the fans seemed to understand the moment. Let's not panic over things that didn't happen and just celebrate how it actually went.

As for the Tuohy 'incident'... Are you guys for real? Tuohy had people running all around him, you can see him trying to weave through the crowd and then someone just runs straight into him. Calling it a 'shirtfront' is totally ridiculous. Tuohy was just about standing still when it happened, and he immediately pointed to the blokes wallet after he got up, not exactly the actions of someone who just assaulted someone hey?

In both cases, let's not create things that weren't there or freak out over things that didn't happen, was an amazing moment all round and the fans needed it after the last couple of years..

It wouldn’t have happened if the fan didn’t run onto the ground, breaking the conditions of entry to the ground.

Tokenism. These half-ar*sed warnings served one purpose and one purpose only, that being to enable the AFL to relinquish all duty of care.

Idk about Tagged but I’m pretty sure he was Fagged. Just like every other Geri-long player.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
