Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

The Cotchin one is unbelievable. He deliberately kicked out with his studs in retaliation. Would be a red card and 3-4 week ban in soccer.

such a cheap shot. Deserved 2 weeks imo. I’m glad Walker has the guts to speak up about it

the MRO is so much worse that last year and it was pathetic already.

Sorry to do this, but the only place I could find the comparative kick I was looking for. Just go to 6.30 in and watch 15 seconds then, burn the link!!

Tony Francis got 6 weeks for his little buttt kick way back in 1990, which was less likely to cause damage than Cotchins and I think is proof that in a lot of areas the tribunal is actually far more lenient than they were years ago. Now its not the action but the outcome that is the only concern, so if you full on smack a wombat in the head, you'll move off scott free, but if you touch a butterfly wing, you'll get life.. so kick as many players as you like kids, just make sure its not hard enough to cause real damage seems to be the take on that, but don't get a legitimate football action slightly wrong if it could lead to a serious injury, because you'll be punished severely even though its an accident. (careless or reckless actions don't get me wrong still need to be penalised). Kicking was always seen as the ultimate dog act and was punished harshly irrespective of severity, still should be.

The outcome based decisions are crazy and solely its luck of the draw if a player is injured or not. Not against rules to stop concussions, in fact I'm all for anything that is a bad look being ironed out, but the action should be what is consistently on trial.

Maybe kicking a racist is a free pass?

Cotchin should have been suspended or at least fined for that action, but on the other hand, who amongst us hasn't had the strong urge to kick Walker? He's a complete bozo.

Settle down Jaded.

How Cotchin didn’t get at least a week is mind boggling. He could have really done some major damage to Walker’s leg with his studs. No wonder Walker was furious with the MRO on radio yesterday.

The AFL didn’t like his comments, but watch them do nothing, to make it all go away.

Cotchin has repeatedly got away with incidents that others would have been penalised for.

Is there any vision of the incident other than the couple of stills?

I can guarantee you that, true to form, if this incident was not involving AFL darling Cotchin and AFL outcast Walker, there would have been a suspension.

To be clear I do not condone what Cotchin did, nor do I condone Walker being allowed to play AFL, nor do I condone the MRO for being a joke.

Yes shown over and over on fox footy. Try AFL site under MRO this week and they will probably have some video. Pretty ordinary action by Cotchin and clearly deliberate.

thanks. On the AFL site the most recent case under MRP is that of Preuss and  'latest' stuff from years ago, sigh.  But Prof Google pointed me to the news section.

The closest similar incident I could think of to Cotchin’s studding was Campbell Brown’s 4 week suspension for studding James Strauss in the face back in 2013. Was deemed a secondary action requiring Strauss to get medical attention - together with Brown’s appalling record. Whilst Cotchin’s was a secondary movement too, Walker didn’t need medical attention and Cotchin has a relatively good record. Good call, play on.

So the message has gone out. Staging is worth trying -- you might get away with it. Kicking is okay.

One week suspension for these characters nips the problem in the bud.

Now there will be more incidents of staging and kicking and the AFL will tie themselves in knots without fixing the problem.

It all depends on your name/team wether you get away with it.

My seemingly all too regular comment: the system is broken.

Larkey tunnels a completely defenceless player. He was in complete control of his actions, was not under any pressure, and was effectively pre-medidated. One week.

Cotchin kicks Walker. No weeks.

Players execute bumps or tackles crudely - weeks are thrown around like we have so many to dole out it's not funny.

Don't get me wrong: I am in favour of suspending players who elect to bump but then make high contact (i.e. not Lewis Young). But the system continues to over-penalise the wrong conduct, particularly by focusing on the outcome and not the action, and under-penalise disgraceful conduct such as that of Larkey and Cotchin.

Zac Jones fined for striking Oliver. To be honest I thought if Jones was going to get cited it would be for the deliberate charge/tunnelling of Langdon immediately prior to that. No attempt to contest the mark in my view and deliberately took out Langdon when he was in a vulnerable position.

I agree the Oliver hit was minor but the Langdon tunneling was extremely dangerous and totally unnecessary.
What is “charging” these days?  Is it still on the books? 2 metre Peter did one this week and I think Cox 🕶 another a few weeks back - all ignored. All should, at very least, have been a 50 (but I guess waving arms is a far greater offence 🙄)

Incident explained:
The incident involving North Melbourne’s Tarryn Thomas and Narrm’s Ed Langdon from the first quarter of Saturday's match between North Melbourne and Narrm was assessed. Langdon gains possession of the ball in North Melbourne’s back pocket before he is tackled by Thomas. It was the view of the Match Review Officer that Thomas’ actions did not constitute a reportable offence. No further action was taken.

Further proof that the AFL care only about concussions and other bodily harm is totally fine.
Chandler breaks Foley’s shoulder and he’s free to play. Ed gets concussed and Thomas gets weeks.

There's no class action being assembled for victims of cracked ribs, torn hamstrings or high ankle sprain injuries.

Also, I thought it was a great tackle. If one of our blokes laid that I'd be punching the air in approval

Goes with the territory? Would certainly not applaud that action borders on potential GBH. Aussie rules is a great game not to be confused with some craven caged ‘contest’.

Cracked ribs is an incredibly dangerous injury that could lead to punctured lungs.
While I completely agree that we need to protect the head and avoid concussion, accidental injuries will occur all day every day in footy. If you’re going to punish accidental head injuries why aren’t you going to punish accidental rib or shoulder or knee injuries which occur in a tackle?
Chandler didn’t mean to hurt his opponent. Thomas sure as hell did.

He pinned his arms & pile drove him into the ground. This is virtually the same as a sling tackle.

If its not illegal it should be.

Absolute bollocks.

His arms were free. Fair tackle - no prior, ball-up.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
