Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

He also said he loved his coaches, and I wonder what his thoughts were after the Rutten meeting.  Did he realise the strength of the team we have, Goody, Yze, Williams, Chaplin  etc? would be fascinating to know.

He probably saw the last 30 seconds of their last game and how they defended that kick in and thought "Nup, get me the heck out of dodge".

I was quietly confident that Angus Brayshaw would re-sign for the Melbourne Demons.

He definitely loves the Melbourne Football Club. The interview with Garry Lyon last year in the player rooms after the Premiership win when he proudly said "Our Club" was incredibly significant.

This just goes to show how vital it is to have a positive culture and to win games regularly. A Premiership has definitely invigorated not only the entire club but the players.

I genuinely wish Angus Brayshaw the very best and hopes that he has further Premiership success as a long-term Demons player and also ends up playing 300+ games for the Club.

A website question; do facepalms add to, or subtract from ones "reputation"..?

Did an experiment... and they don't Add, but they don't subtract...

You know better than the Club, even after I point out that you are completely wrong on the circumstances of Angus’ contract.
FMD you really are a piece of work.
Guys like Brayshaw don’t come along every day. They were always worth long deals long before Free Agency appeared

Totally agree, Gus brings so much to the table as a versatile "heart and soul player"of the MFC. He is arguably in AA form as a HBF, a position he says he is really enjoying playing. He is also when asked, an excellent in-and-under centre square mid. SWYL is right , players like Gus don't grow on trees, we should all be thrilled that he has decided to stay. We have now locked in the core of our very best players in Clarrie, Tracc, Max, and Jack which should in theory keep us well and truly in the premiership window for the next 4-5 years.

You never know but probably not haha,  I feel like you can say whatever you want in the 12 hrs after a big re-signing so I'm just taking advantage of that rule that I've just made up.

To be ‘Frank’ minus the party pooper the sentiment here had been entirely positive . We’re blessed to have so many worthy individuals, both quality footballers and champion blokes at MFC at this time.

Angus Brayshaw is one.

NID IMHO

One of the best things about this signing is that an intelligent guy like Gus has done full due diligence and chosen MFC over more money and more midfield opportunity elsewhere. That's a huge endorsement of our club.

Plus what he offers to the group after playing years are done.

It amazes me how someone could have such high conviction for something based on almost no information.

The information we have on Brayshaw's contract is:

  1. It is over a term of 6 years.
  2.  .............

How can anyone have such strong opinions based off such little information? Is that the level of evidence needed for you to be convinced that all of these (proven) competent football people are actually idiots? Is that the level of evidence you have for your other strongly held opinions too?

That’s fair. But we also know that multiple other teams were interested in him. I’m happy to be proven wrong if he’s signed on at significantly below market rate, but it would be pretty crazy to lock himself in on 6 years at such a low rate that he could’ve taken 3 from someone else. I wish all salaries above the league average were disclosed so we could get a better handle on what teams are doing.

Why would he sign a contract at Below Market Rate just to appease you?

he is a Senior Club Leader who deserves to be looked after.
The Fact that you don’t rate him, is entirely on you

Cheer up. like you, I also got it wrong in suspecting Gus might depart, or maximise his $ by shopping himself around during the trade period. He hasn’t done this, which is a credit to him, and a great development for the club.

Be happy!

There is already a report he took less than market. All our senior players have done that from the reporting of when they are signed (no Lord Nev I am not going to go and find links). Occams Razor says this is why they agree to long term deals.

Gawn has talked about keeping the band together and it looks like he has done it.

You know so much about nothing

This has NOTHING to do with Free Agency at all.
It’s about having a core group of leaders who set the Standards whilst the Club is in a Serious Premiership phase

Length of contract has absolutely exploded since free agency. That’s undeniable. Go yell in the mirror

I thought Ben Brown would deliver exactly what he has this year. Cooked knee, battling to play. Credit to Burgo, Ben and the team for getting a very good half a season out of him. Clearly now it’s a gamble that was worth taking. Still not entirely sure why he got 4 years but the draft compensation (swap of Preuss) became far less than initial fears.

I thought Tom was battling too many leg injuries and would struggle to recapture form. He doesn’t play through injuries well. They got him going close to his best last year, we’ll see if he’s got more in him.

I didn’t think ANB would ever find the level of composure and attack on the ball to be useful under pressure. Great defensively but was a liability the other way until he found belief last year.

I loved Spargo in ‘18, he did test the patience in 19-20. I’m sure there’s posts after bad games where I was down on many of our players but I’d say the rest of the premiership 22 I had a good opinion of.

The drop back wing role was an effective use of Gus. So has been using him as an intercept defender, particularly when Lever was missing. But the clubs been drafting wingers the last two years, and gun halfbacks need speed and/or skills.

I don’t agree with 6 years for a guy who’s plugged gaps but isn’t an ideal fit in any one position.

Originally I thought you were just working on your sincerity but now I see you have slipped over into your normal rhetoric. Which is pretty funny actually as I think mo64 was asking a rhetorical question.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
