Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

There's always been talk about a move West, but after what he said post GF (It's your club, it's our club), I'd got the feeling he was MFC for life. And despite some (perceived) initial disgruntlement with being moved out of the guts, he's really seemed to relish the wing role and his place in the Winger's Club.

Not sure why else he's deferred contract talks, but I'd be surprised if he's on the move.

Maybe he is waiting to get another flag under his belt and he will then have a stronger bargaining position.

Plus the TPP may be increased and there will be more to spread round.

The only player I could see him displacing in the midfield is Harmes, if he wants more midfield time.

Gus doesn't seem the type to be motivated by money and doubt he would be looking for a FA type windfall.  He would know he won't get what he is worth at the Dees but will most likely have a minimum  $/term/incentives he would sign for.

On the other hand, as much loved and as courageous as he is, the club may feel he is the easiest on-baller to replace with the range of players waiting in the wings.

His 15 minutes in the 3rd quarter helped turn the tide in the GF.  A cameo?  Maybe.  But the spoil then mark and goal were inspirational.  He gave us the lead and team belief went up.

His defensive wing role limits him showcasing and using his talent.  Is it satisfying enough for hm?  Does he want to be a role player for another 5-7 years...

A different (midfield and perhaps a leadership team) role might be enough to entice him away.

Would understand if he left.  Hope he stays.

He said on the Gus and Gawny podcast that; After footy, he was staying in Melbourne. If he does change clubs, which I highly doubt! It won’t be interstate.

It’s never a good sign when players defer negotiations until the end of the season.

The way the afl clubs work it wouldn’t surprise me if he has already “verbally” or similar agreed to a deal with another club.

One thing I do know is that we are now a successful club which comes with different challenges one being keeping all our quality players under the salary cap.

Time will tell.

He's not money motivated. Perhaps the offer of an inside mid spot at another club would appeal but he's worked so hard to adapt to the wing role in a premiership team. Why forego that spot?

Plus leaving would spell the end of the Gus and Gawny podcast and the break-up of the greatest bromance in the AFL. Won't happen

I'm a bit more optimistic.

I can envisage that if Gus is looking for X  of $/term/role the club says ok, shows us this, this and this.

TMac and ANB were in a similar 'show us this, this and this' situation last year and the club extend their contracts by several years.

The situation with TMac and ANB was different. They were 'shopped around' but no other Club was interested in them.

Yeah who knows Luc. Fingers crossed but premiership teams do lose some quality players due to cap restrictions.

I know.  The point was that the club has shown it is willing to re-contract players if they show what the club is looking for so it challenges them to do so.  I was musing that the club could be doing that with Gus, albeit the different back story.

Is he a free agent?

Haven't really been up to date with the latest list management stuff.

Yeah he is, and to be fair the article doesn't say he's put it off until end of season, so could very well be trying to maximize his offer and in particular his contract length given the concussion history.

Played one heck of a grand final but let’s be honest he’s a role player with strengths and significant weaknesses.

We can’t be paying the top market rate for him.

Doesn’t mean he won’t stay but it makes sense for both sides to get a look at what’s on offer from other clubs before committing.

If he goes, he’ll cost a few bob for the other team. A valuable team-member for sure, but not irreplaceable. A side-effect of playing on the wing last year was that he built up his tank and has never been fitter.

Would much rather he stay. But understandably, at the minute he has more important things to concentrate on.

Spot on. He was great in the GF but didn't finish top 10 in the BnF. I'd imagine that he was well paid after his 2018 season, so there are more valuable players that should be financially looked after.

I doubt that he leaves, especially to move interstate, when his parents and girlfriend are in Melbourne. I wouldn't read too much into this headline.

Timing is interesting ... could be a bit [censored] off about what the doc indicated goidy said and dealing with it privately with the club ps l know what his dad said publicly what it not being a concern

But that 'incident' actually happened in 2020 or earlier (quite possibly 2017 or 2018), so wouldn't have thought the timing is relevant.

Let’s hope he is just waiting for the new CBA. Some people like to criticise his disposal but I think they are just displaying their confirmation bias… or maybe I am when I see him turn onto either foot and get the ball forward to advantage.

To me he is a heart and soul, team man. Of course everyone is replaceable, but I would hate to lose him.

There's probably an awareness that Jackson and Oliver are priorities

Perhaps it's a question of what remains after that?

I'd be staggered if there was no collateral from our success.

And how long are players like Laurie and Rosman going to wait in the wings for?

I'm pretty certain he wants to stay, but I'm also certain that our salary cap will be getting tight.

I'll quote a Dees poster from BF (billyboutsis):

''His current contract is approx 625k a season which was renewed when he was having a breakout season in 2018…

Was great for us when it counted last season but its a lot of cap space for a player playing out of his natural position. Langdon is on a bit less than 500k for context.

Happy for him to stay if they can resign him in the mid 500’s, otherwise emotions aside he is the one player who would be of value to another club, “replaceable” and frees up space to hold onto the younger regular first teamers who would be due a considerable bump up in their 1st or 2nd contract renewals.''

Billy's views perfectly sum up mine.  I don't know how accurate his comments are, but they sound about right.

I like Angus and understand the ''fabric of the club'' argument, but he's definitely a player I don't want to be paying too much to retain.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
