Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Why bother trying to apply rational logic to what Scott said?

not only that he was happy to see 8 (or 9) players out on the ground with a potentially infectious ailment who hadn't recovered. not only did he show no care to his player's health but he was happy to risk the health of our players

or......it was all just  bs to counter the anger of cat fans directed at him

I just wonder, where do we draw the line?
Last week some DLers were saying Sarah Perkins needs to drop 20 kilos and the Crows AFLW side must have a huge food bill etc. I personally didn’t take offence but that may well have offended someone who’s obese.

I’m just saying you ought not cherry-pick what you deem as having the potential to offend while other posts which could also potentially offend are let through to the keeper.

The old story some remarks offend and we gave no idea why it who it will but some  are dumb and doomed as bd this is your category .
Dare you go into an AGED  Care home and repeat it !!!  Seriously think about it !

Yes on reflection I should have kept my reaction to myself however

Why don't you take umbrage  with  the author ?

They are the most guilty culprit placing it in writing I was only thinking !!

58er, thus far I’ve resisted the urge to snap back at you at times when I’d be forgiven for doing so. And at times your posts are difficult to understand, a prime example being your first paragraph (above), but I’ve let that slide. I’ve even ignored it when you refer to me as ‘MCW’ and ‘my man’. But, I’ll NOT let you take what’s clearly your shi**ty mood out on me. And I know this is a product of your moods since surely you wouldn’t seriously dare me to go to an aged care facility and repeat something that I never said in the first place.
Also, kindly stop thrashing multiple exclamation marks when addressing me. Thank you

Good to see Deeluded has made a come back again.

Quite obvious when the bloke can barely write a paragraph that makes any sense whatsoever.

I advise some just to simply ignore him or else you'll fry some brain cells.

Honestly who is their right mind actually knows what 😮 wanted.
Postponement for a week? A month?
And if he was so concerned did he contact the AFL and demand that this be done? Contact WA Health expressing concern re some unknown infection afflicting the players to whom he had a duty of care, as well as a duty of care to the opponents and the whole AFL competition, let alone the WA community?

Pretty clearly just making excuses for poor list management, poor preparation and poor team selection.

I watch some of that match and after hearing that the players were sick I notice that players were drink from drink bottles brought out by trainers now unless those drink bottles are marked with the players names then the club could have spread the illness amongst the group.

No way for footballer to treat a cat

If he felt like that, he could have taken out his frustrations in a socially acceptable way by watching replays of us kicking Cats 3 times in a season.

Anyway we should move on except for one matter, his assertion Selwood is the best captain in the competition. He fairly admits he is biased but is totally wrong and slights a great leader and captain.

That is one thing I've never quite worked out.

To be a captain of a team regularly in the top  is no small feat. I acknowledge him for that. He has been respected in the Geelong team as a leader since the day he stepped into the club. I respect that as well.

But Selwood has yet to captain a premiership team. I swear this 'best captain in the league' stuff is generated by the backslappers and liniment sniffers who make up AFL club land and the adjacent media eco system.

I saw a discussion a couple of years ago when the AFL website was discussing who the best captain in the league was: Selwood or Cotchin. For me it was a no brainer: Cotchin was a two time premiership captain at that stage compared to Selwood's duck egg. I am no fan of Richmond, and the fawning by the knobs in the Channel 7 commentary team over them, but numbers don't lie.

Until Selwood captains Geelong to a flag, I don't want to hear people talking about him like he is General Douglas MacArthur.

Selwood has been a great player and leader at Geelong.

...but there is no doubt in my mind, biased or not who the current best Captain in the AFL is.

He's the one who is the current AA Captain and Premiership Captain.

Maxy is a great player (5 x AA), leader and Captain...well done big fella.

I'm not saying the Selwood is the best captain in the competition, but surely the metric is more than having been captain of a premiership team. I've consistently argued that the role of captain today is far more than what happens on game day. Most of what a club needs from its captain happens outside game day.

Scott wanted the bye to be before the Prelim instead of pre GF.  Postponing it for 'health and safety' reasons would have given him that breathing space.

As if a 6pm game could be cancelled/postponed at 1pm that day.

On the interview it woud have been nice if he had said Melbourne were the better team instead of referring to us as 'the opposition'.  He did similar in the post PF press conf.  Just couldn't bring himself to acknowledge it was the Demons that thrashed them.  Faint praise was the best he could muster while 'not making excuses'.

Let me unpack this and work out if Scott is serious......

Cats isolate upon arrival in Perth and, I assume, are extensively tested due to Covid.

One player has to isolate for a time during this period.

A number of players pick up a bug in the week prior to the game.

I am sure that the AFL was all over this due to the circumstances.

None of the tests for Covid showed any positive results.

The AFL asks a question.... not sure what question was asked.... no one has said.

Cats select their team and close to game time alert the AFL that they may have to make a number of changes because of the bug.

The changes to the selected side do no occur.

Therefore, in the opinion of the Cats coach and selectors they fielded the best team available at the time.

Comprehensively beaten.

4 months later or at sometime after the match the Cats coach thinks it might have been a good idea to ask the AFL to postpone the match. (something that was never going to happen given the circumstances)

All facts.

To my mind it is a bad reflection on the Cats football department and the coach in particular. They are collectively responsible for the fitness and presentation of the team come game time.

Scott is not serious...... or, if he is, did not think it through properly before offering it as an excuse for their sub-standard performance.

Typical deflection from Scott about his coaching, his oh so old ageing list, and a lot of his players who are oh so so soft or just not up to it in pressure cooker finals

Scott knew his ageing team was shot and was perhaps having thought bubbles on how to engineer an advantage if the game was postponed so that a refreshed Geelong and “ the opposition” had to face off on equal terms with “the opposition”having the possible disadvantage of not playing a game for 3 weeks. It would have been a radical precedent to postpone a game because a few players had a tummy bug. Never happened before.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
