Club considered standing down Goodwin during season?

Glorious Day

On a different point regarding the story, I think it was in the age article that described Goody as “embattled”. Maybe I’m seeing it from rosy specs but it’s one article and the club has backed him 100%, hardly sounds embattled to me….

Genuine question, can you point me to where the 100K severance is reported?

The only thing I saw in the reports yesterday was he sued the club for 250k.

Not sure now to be honest Nev, but the source may well have been edited since publishing.

A couple things I do know:

I'm not ordinarily sloppy with these sorts of things. Half of my day is spent fact-checking. I even once set up a fact-checking thread here on Demonland in an effort to eliminate 'rumour-to-knowledge' creep.

Another poster used the same figures ($250K sought - $100K settled) after my initial post on the subject, where with an understanding of those numbers in mind I only stated that Arain had received well under half.

Journalists, particularly sensationalist ones, would be inclined to use the phrase 'a quarter of a million dollar settlement' if it were that. Similarly, a 'six-figure pay-out' is more evocative than $100,000, or even $150,000.

That the Herald Sun knows the exact sum (I think) but doesn't report it as such is telling. I'm also guilty of making numbers sound more or less significant in my line of work, almost on a daily basis. Or parsing when others do.

Think more clearly 'Pates'...where would the information come from, they don't have access to it.

...and this type of leak will only galvanise support around the incumbents.

Any leaks from clubs tend to be aimed at destabilising the incumbents, while I see what you mean with saying “this type of leak” I still would have thought the club board would prefer this sort of thing not be played out in public. Makes the club look split rather than cohesive.

As for where would the information come from, is it impossible for a nominee not to have an existing member as an insider? There are/were multiple on the board at that time, could be any one of them.

Either way, a leak looks bad for the club and the existing board. Personally I think all involved tat the club are firing on all cylinders, so I see no reason to change the status quo.

This is the last general warning.

Any unsubstantiated claims or accusations will result in a banning (temporary or permanent).

Please respect that. You can discuss the situation but please do not point the finger at people based solely on you thinking it must be that person. I will not hesitate to use your details if I get a knock on the door. Last warning.

Just shut the whole thread down

Whoever is leaking is doing it in self interest only to the potential detriment of the club. I hope they realise that and can park their ego because the supporters, board, coaches and players are otherwise united in aiming for back to back starting in 35 days.

So mining and aviation are standard for testing? As they should be. They fly planes and operate large machinery. They don't kick a football.

Ridculous analogy by Bartlett if true.

I'm a shotfirer in a coal mine. I've had 2 drug tests this week and sadly passed both of them.

We alcohol test every morning. The blokes who have benders the night before have a well practiced method of turning up late the following day.

I wouldn't complain if the AFL has testing, although I'm not sure what good it would do. There are not that many 300 tonne trucks in the carpark, and very few 1000 tonne blasts being fired at the G'

I often go into retail shops and stand there while the person behind the counter completely ignores me. The other I walk out and nothing happened so obviously I am now invisible.

To be honest I think there is a absence of training now in the work place. Once upon  a time you were always taught to acknowledge the person standing there and then get to them as soon as possible.

Best way to shut the media vultures up is start the season with 6 or 7 wins in a row again (at least)

Surely we need to better the 9 of 2021, just to show that we are serious.

Of course, bang, bang, bang … bang was in Perth.
Maybe we should try to better that in 2022 GF, at the G.

This story has probably galvanised the team for 2022, since the attack is on the coach who all players seem to love.

Thinking the same.

the fact that the coach’s job was on the line heading into last year, is potentially what jolted the players into action :- lets hope for the same result this year.

This is the price we pay for a free media and democracy.

Would you prefer the Chinese system Ernest?

Just on words OD it is becoming more difficult to cop, in our broader context "free media" or "democracy", as is the lot of us "colonial gits"

Just in regard to "settlement" I am aware in some instances, and as puzzling as they may seem, where the figure itself can to extent become token, whereas written authoritative apology is much more meaningful.

The players don't need galvanising. The taste of winning should be enough.

The good doctor was sworn at and that is bullying, er by gum, joined the RAAF in 66 at the ripe old age of 15. Our cpl drill instructor verbally laid into us like he was god, and to us he was. Lucky I was so short the phelm flew over my head. Many circuits of the drill square with rifle over head, and somebody swore at the good doctor, grow a set and stand up and dont wimp off to lawyers.

Many of the things being attributed to Goody in these articles could well be reactions to the pressure and scrutiny he appeared to be under at the time which would include his personal life. I'm sure given the time again we all have real life situations we'd like to have managed differently in hindsight. I know I certainly would. It all makes this drip feeding of the details in the press a bit distasteful.

I do wonder though what the supporter reaction would have been had Goody not coached us to a flag last year.

Spot on. It's a coup to get Roffey out of the top job. As she mentioned in her email, her position was being challenged and thats why they're holding a board election. The old divide and conquer technique.

Maybe I missed it, but I couldn't see anywhere that Kate said her position was being challenged, would you like to highlight that part where she does.
