Club considered standing down Goodwin during season?

I know Bartlett well professionally and at a friendship level.  I would be shocked if he had anything to do with this leaking.  Its simply not his style.  He did after all resign from the Presidency honourably.  He has never spoken a negative word to the anyone let alone the press.

I hope you are right GNF, and you probably are.

Which is why i reckon it is probably in his Bartlett's bets interests to clear this up. I mean that's not really fair, but that's life. Bottom line most people are assuming it is him and not refuting those suggestions reinforces those beliefs.

A couple of points - and not wanting to bag Bartlett, someone i think who did a terrific job at the club - saying he resigned the Presidency honorably is true, but there is little doubt he was pushed.

It was the very definition of a bloodless coup and kudos to him for not making noise ensuring that was the case.

A constant theme in this tread seems to be shoot the messenger.

The reported things happened they are not made up by the news media.

Deal with them but please cease this abuse of the messengers if they did not happen there would not be a story in the media.

My suspicion is the outsiders who are wanting a place on the Board.  One of them in particular is very close to the club, for years has put himself forward as a Board member only to be rejected by the board. He is now standing as an outsider.

While I agree that it probably isn't Bartlett, how would this certain outsider get access to all this inside information including emails and meetings where only a few people were present? There would still have to be someone internally leaking those things.

Such is the human condition LN. To expect otherwise is folly.

BS.

the doctor was incompetent, and probably should have been sacked earlier.

what goody said, would be said at least once a week at most other clubs.

Nev, you sound like a closet Richmond supporter trying to undermine us.

Please stop defaming the great Nev’s name, with your negative comments and face palms

I suspect he has some supporters in the club, maybe the x doctor, maybe someone else who left disgruntled.

There is no way an “outsider” would have access to all the information (text messages & emails) that Warner has quoted.
this has been fed by an insider, someone who was part of the Conversation.
That same person has a serious axe to grind, now they may be feeding a 3rd person

But i can only see the Source as 1 person

It is fair to surmise that other members of the Melbourne board were not impressed that their president had acted without their full approval (albeit with one other director at the meeting)."

The other director is still on the board, should it be a concern? should he move on? will he have the trust of the other board members?

The Doctor was disgruntle and from what I can see in on all the leaked emails regarding concussions and drug testing.  He did after all sue the MFC for false dismissal.  Warner and/or the Doctor.

The story is obviously not nothing. Things happened and by all current accounts were dealt with accordingly. Not going to attack any journos for doing their job but when I first read the article there was a lot not adding up. Club doctors and leaked board emails and minutes and then not being able to tell if this was a bullying, gambling problem or Mental health story. There's simply more to it and we need to hear from a few more people including the league CEO.

So for me and most of us it seems the real story is the board leaks and the upcoming election. Not condoning any of the alleged behaviour and speculation but this the main crux of the story.

With all due respect GNF, i'm not sure casting aspersions is fair or helpful - and there is an inherent contradiction in  doing so in the context of, quite reasonably, pushing back against unfounded aspersions against Bartlett

There has only been one accusation of wrong-doing levelled at Goodwin; workplace bullying - and we know that the standards in an elite sporting environment aren't exactly equivalent to those in an ordinary workplace.

Arain ultimately received a minimal pay-out, less than a year's severance and well under half of what he was seeking. Goodwin has denied the accusations of bullying and has been backed by the board following a review.

Other allegations had been privately made by Pert about Arain's behaviour at the time, and the bullying claims don't fit with any other public statements made about Goodwin's character and interpersonal relations in recent times.

It's very possible though that he could have used what might be construed to be aggressive language. Judging by recent appointments, it's evident that the footy department had issues with our fitness and injury management.

I have no idea who was responsible for the following, but Viney's foot was apparently mismanaged, Steve Smith was kicking up a serious stink about Joel, and half our list heading for off-season surgery at once set our club back by more than a year.

Who knows if the former was necessary, or could have been staggered - but it put intense pressure on Goodwin and the club. If I recall correctly, Smith's public anger was also tied to the swelling threat of a board challenge reported by Caro.

On the balance of things, I don't think there's enough evidence to suggest that Goodwin has ever acted in a way that the average person would consider inappropriate in the context of a footballing workplace environment.

The recently departed Fitness Guru mentioned that when he started with us in 2019, he inherited a list of crocks. Look at them now...

Sorry, old dee. I'm not quite following you. Are you saying that everything that's communicated privately within an organisation, between organisations, and between individuals should be leaked to the media with no repercussions if there's a story in it? The reason why there's a constant theme is because this should not have been leaked, regardless of whether it happened or not. I would assume you like me have done 1 or 2 things in your life that you're not overly proud of. Are you happy for that infornation to be provided to the Herald Sun?

The former president became involved with the MFC because he wanted to bring business to his old law firm (Clayton Utz)where he was a partner and parochial eagles fan. His words in the meeting he raised his intention to become involved with MFC attending the corporate lunches, "rich managerial people barrack for Melbourne, it's a good networking opportunity" certainly nothing wrong with that and something I'm sure many people do.

However, as a Melbourne supporter I always had reservations when he actually became the president because of the original motive, but again I also understand once inside a club, you do naturally care as it is your reputation etc.. on the line and you become involved with the people and become invested, so I never questioned his desire while in the job, even if I questioned his initial motives.

However, the risk is that if you actually barracked for the someone else all your life before you transition, once you leave,  the transition is likely to lead you back to what you cared for before and not feel as much a part of the success (its almost they succeeded without you) This may lead to you telling the stories, issues experienced to those around you that cast the place in bad light to protect your reputation, as the club failed while you are in charge  and succeeded as soon as you stepped aside.

It would be like me coaching Old Melburnians, I would care about them while I'm there coaching obviously and put my full blood sweat and tears in, but after I move on, my main allegiance would always go back to the VAFA club I played for and cared about for many many years, even if I kept a soft spot for the club I coached. If they had immediate success after leaving and I got quizzed why I didn't get the same success, I'd become defensive and probably tell some stories of the crap I may have had to deal with.

I'm not saying GB has leaked the information personally to the media, I actually doubt that, as he would have little to gain and certainly doesn't put him in great light either, but I do think its likely a former associate of his (possibly another ex-board member or closely aligned ex-staffer) is the likely rat in the house who may be handballing information that had been passed on in good faith by GB when outlining his trials and tribulations in the role?

Doctor in collaboration with Warner makes sense.  Doctor disgruntle, Warner disgruntle and wants to bring down Board.  Doctor gives emails to Warner who leaks them.  This way Doctor keeps his pay-out if busted as he is not the leaker to the press. Warner discredits Board during an election in which he is standing as on outsider.

I thought Kate Roffey's strident defence of Goody was more than welcome.  However, the only question that remains for me is, why was the Doctor paid out a 6 figure $ sum, which clearly is not insubstantial and why was there an apparent non-disclosure clause in the settlement?

Some of the leaked emails from Pert were about the doctor.  I don't believe he was a recipient of those emails.

Gut feel is that it's neither the doctor or Bartlett.

Why is Warner disgruntled? He is a Journalist, it is his job to sniff out stories, not bring down the MFC Board

Doctor gives emails to Warner, who then writes a story.
if that is the case The Doctor is a fool and i hope the Club take him to the Cleaners

That was a bizarre take by GNF re Warner being disgruntled.

As you said, his sole job in all of this is to write the story itself.

Warner has no personal attachment to this story.

Some on here are saying it wouldn’t be the ex-president who’s responsible for the leaks because he doesn’t stand to gain anything from doing it. And that may be so… in a physical sense. Or a financial sense, or any number of senses. But he is human, and sometimes people do uncharacteristic or seemingly pointless things purely out of spite or vindictiveness. I don’t know the man but this isn’t beyond the realm of possibility. Well, no more or no less than any other human being.

BLUE VIBE AT IKON by Meggs

It was such a nice vibe at Ikon on Friday night.     Princes Park looked in excellent condition, a relaxed but modest crowd and President Kate Roffey and CEO Gary Pert in attendance, greeting fans and shaking hands.     It was an evening with little to complain about for Dees supporters, save for some drizzling rain, a few missed scoring opportunities and the fact that the Dees as raging favourites duly took the four points.   Carlton was always going to struggle to cover

    BLUES AWAY by Meggs

This Round 5 clash against the Blues at Princes Park (officially known as Ikon Park) is a great chance for the Dees to bounce back to the winning circle following our top-of-the-table loss to Brisbane last week.     Carlton will be missing several key players with the pundits calling 10 to nil.  Raging favouritism is never a comfortable thing for Melbourne supporters but we simply must deliver on Friday night.   History has seen these teams play four times since 2017 with the Dee

Early Sunday afternoon Meggs was coffeeing in Mornington and witnessing hail, thunder, lightning, rain, wind and feeling the freezing temperatures and knowing all these elements were heading towards Casey Fields.  Oh dear.  The Brisbane coach had said during the week that he wanted the game moved to Marvel because “if you're going to have two of the better teams in the comp playing, (it warrants) a venue and deck that suits the occasion”.  However, Casey Fields was uncharacteristi

RAINING PREMIERS by KC from Casey

If the threatening dark grey skies that loomed above Ikon Park before the VFL Grand Final didn’t provide a sufficiently inhospitable reception for our visitors from sunny Queensland, the rains that bucketed down after quarter time certainly did. For years, the Casey Demons have welcomed opposing teams at their home fortress with rain, hail, wind and frosty conditions and it was just Southport’s luck that they met those conditions head on in the VFL’s big dance. They suited Casey’s skillful

The VFL club now known as the Casey Demons last won a premiership flag under the name of the Springvale Scorpions but tha

For the fourth consecutive week, and the second week as the mighty Narrm, we take on a Top 8 team. Could this match be a preview of the Season 7 Grand Final?   Our opponents this week, Brisbane, stand undefeated atop the AFLW ladder after slaying the struggling Freo, and the unrated Giants and Gold Coast.  After amassing 225 points for and only 56 against, for a percentage of 401.8%, the pundits are claiming the Lions have the best attack the competition has ever seen.   Brisbane

    CHANGES 2022 by The Oracle

Part 1: The year we stood still (or did we?).  Premiership coach David Parkin who  coincidentally turned 80 yesterday, famously used to say that even a premiership team needs to bring at least five new players into the fold in order to advance from year to year and therefore, if this adage remains true, then the Melbourne Football Club really did stand still in 2022.  Of the players recruited after the club’s premiership in September, 2021, only Luke Dunstan (5 games) managed to provid
