Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Gus wins at Golf

Good to see Gus Brayshaw won at Royal Melbourne yesterday with 40 points off a hcp. of 9! Not bad off the back tees!
Is he our best golfer now that Omac  is at Carlton?

Are any  other Dees RMGC members?

I've heard Gus and Gawny talk about the golfers at the club. From what I recall, Hunt is off 1, May 6 and a few others are lower than Gus.

That's solid! Where do you play Jumping Jack?

I'm at Spring Valley.

Hunt is the best golfer (around 3/4 hcp) , I have played with him and he hits it a mile. Used the Qld hub at twin waters to full effect and Joondalup!

No but lucky to play there a bit. Really good test.

What does it cost to join a golf club like Royal Melbourne?

As a lad I used to play at the Brighton Municipal golf course but was never enthusiastic enough to join a club.

Don't mind Brighton, I almost had a hole in one on that dogleg Par 4. About an inch from the hole. Sad face. Sandy was my public course of choice. The back 9 was mint for a public course (I think used to be part of RMGC?).

To your q: before leaving Mel I was going to join either Woodlands (grandfather a long time member) or RMGC. I think annual fees at RMGC (full) were 5k-ish, and joining 10k? Woodlands had a half price joining fee for under 35s of about 1500 and annual fees circa 2k at the time (very attractive). Woodlands joining fee today for 7 days is $8500 - most of the clubs hide/obfuscate the joining fee on their websites, but I think if you see an "admin fee" for membership application processing of about 10%, it's a good bet the joining fee is 10x that.

The bigger problem is waiting lists and access. Grandfather had friends who were long time Victoria members and I think the waiting fee was 25 years for full 7 days? There's not even a membership page on their site, which tells you a bit! Metropolitan is invitation only (that ensures a good diverse mix eh!), Commonwealth no info, Kingston Heath no info. Despite the apparent downturn in golf, it seems membership at private sandbelt courses is still pretty well protected.

Keysborough is something like 25k but it's this weird share membership thing you can, at least around 2010, transfer. I think Yarra Yarra was the most exy when I was looking - it was eye wateringly high but might have changed.

just for the golfers out there …….

I’ve been living in Europe now for many years and was lucky enough when I arrived over here to fall in with a good group of guys that organised a golf weekend each year. I have been involved with it since the early 2000’s and we have played some great courses. Been to Scotland a number of times and played the Old Course at St Andrews as well as most of the other courses in the area. Also have played Turnberry, Troon and Prestwick in Ayrshire. A highlight was playing Royal Dornoch in The North. Off to Scotland again this year.

In Ireland we have also played some classics such Portrush and County Down. In the US we have been to Pinehurst a couple of times and that is a great place to have a golfing holiday. It has 9 top quality courses with No.2 the site of the US open a number of times. Played Whistling Straits and Eden Hills a couple of times with Whistling Straits rated the most difficult course I have played. Great course but long and hard. Off a 14 handicap I managed to shoot a 95 and was very happy with that.

played in a few other places in Europe and the Us but the ones mentioned were wonderful memories.

Gaaaaaa! All my bucket list courses. Dad's mum and dad spent their retirement flying first class to France and the UK/Scotland (must be nice!) and always brought back golf bag towels. Troon, Royal St Georges, Lytham etc.  I have had them for 30-odd years and too scared to use them!

I've told wifey that a whisky/golf tour is on the cards - St Andrews and anything else we can. That's in addition to Maui and an Augusta Tour which you can tack Pebble Beach onto.

Chapeau! Some photos would be mint!

Hi Super,

There is no waiting list at  Commonwealth at present, much to their  chagrin.

Expensive entry fee ( ? $10,000), but reduced annual fee till you’re 40.

Big works about to start,to try to get back to the standard of RMGC, KHGC, Metro, and Vic.      Commonwealth is a great “ members’ club”……….. people try to meet other members and enjoy playing with them.  It’s not easy….. tricky greens, and as long as any other Sandbelt course.

Showoff, ( bribery could keep me from posting, you elitist snob!). Many on here can attest to my handicap. Please Sir, can I play a round with you?

On revision that didn't read as well as I hoped.

Showoff? Nah just an just a mug golfer that happened to be in the right place at the right time to meet up with this group of guys... Elitist? Nah to that as well.... I have played a lot of 'ordinary' courses as well, including Brighton, Yarra Bend and Sandy courses in Melbourne.

If I really wanted to showoff I could list the strange countries I have played golf in.... golf provides endless stories......

Yeah you guys are way more advanced in the golf stakes than me. A good day out for me is a trip to Freeway, Yarra Bend or Burnley at best!

I did venture out to Bulleen Driving range a couple of weeks ago though for one list hit, it is now closed due to the North-East link project. Was a nice range :(

Wasn't Hunt a top tennis player in his youth? I seem to recall he was said to be better at tennis than football when he was drafted.

Heard a rumor that RMGC waiting list fees are $20,000 +

And the RMGC greens (or at least maybe 6-9) of them are said to be in dire straits, having been “fertilized” with RoundUp.

Apparently he was an excellent tennis player during his school days. Like many top sports people his hand/eye coordination is better than most!

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
