Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Hi all,

Just got my tickets for the two founding AFLW teams. Game is on Sat night at Whitten Oval, should be a cracker.

I haven't heard of any of the girls having covid so hopefully it goes ahead as normal.

Will be interesting to see how Harris goes, we certainly need some more goals

Anyone else going?

Goldie and McNamara both played in the practice match, so I'm thinking injury or something Covid-related since then. A bit of pace missing...

Colvin and Magee are the other two regulars from last season missing from tomorrow's team.

Glad to see Caris get a run!

Meggs is pleased to see Brenna T down back, she’s our most skilled defender.  Fitzsimon at CHB is odd but good on her, thought she was a midfielder. Bannan’s pace and game smarts make her a great option on the wing.  Both our wings are tall and quick.  West and Brown have pace too.

This team looks really balanced. We are primed for a great start to 2022.  Let’s win girls!

Just watched the saints, tigers game. It's too early in the year to hear the tigers theme song.

Ha, yes indeed!  But the Tiges looked quite lively after quarter time.  Reuniting the Hosking twins is a good move. Wakefield was effective up forward, Mon Conti is easily one of the best AFLW midfielders (Clarry-like) and offloading of the slow Frederick to the Pies will not be regretted.  Brennan, good captain’s game and no Ellie McKenzie tonight.

Saints are lacking depth. A couple of ex Dees played ok for them in Cat Phillips and Bianca Jakobssen while Harriet Cordner was solid in defence for the Tiges.

The Doggies are a pretty good side so I think our game has gone up a level. Our composure, skills and ability to hit a target was the best I've seen from them yet. Zanker, Hanks, Birch, Lampard, Gay and Pearce got better as the game continued. I love the improvement from Heath, Bannon and Tarrant. Caris looks like she belongs at this level as do the other newbies. Great win!

'Cordner' and 'Tiges' in the same sentence; that's still a 😥for me.

But for their exceptional accuracy, Meggs, how do we and they compare on a sample of one?

Yes, a Cordner @richmondfc is uncomfortable perhaps as a Bartlett @melbournefc hehe.

As to the relative strengths of our girls’ teams, all will be revealed this Friday night as Round 2 kicks off at 7:10pm on 14 January 2022 at the Punt Road Oval.  Meggs is quietly confident of a win but the Tiges have recruited well so we should anticipate a good contest.

Not as convincing win as it should have been, especially after the Dogs lost Huntington.
we also lost Paxman to the bench for a long time…something wrong there, hopefully nothing serious. Coincided with our reverting to handball instead of kicking, which was so productive in the first quarter.
Still, without Goldrick, Colvin and McNamara we should be much stronger in coming games.

Thanks to Dees In October there’s a comprehensive report on the round one victory here.

Good write-up.  I would add that Harris looks very willing to crash into bodies.  Her goal came after she just bulled her opponent off the ball, and there were several other contests where she crunched into people but didn't wind up with the ball.  That might wind up being her biggest contribution, clearing space for Hore and Pearce to work in.

Alyssa Bannan impressed me with her athleticism. If she can get her hands on the ball more I reckon she can have a real impact, using her strength and leg speed to drive out of the contest in the same way Clarry does. Overall a very impressive hit out, if we can improve our forward connection we should dominate games (where have I heard this before?). Also Zanker is a bloody gun, a damaging mid who is also one of the tallest on the ground!

That's a huge call. I actually thought Bannan was noticeably average when the ball was on the deck compared to Zanker, who's also tall (and one of my fave players). That's not a knock on Bannan, who's just in her second season as a raw and exciting young athlete

Did the Dogs actually have a good side out there this week? I think the commentators mentioned that the Dogs had about eight missing this week, which is a huge amount given the smaller lists. No doubt all Clubs will be impacted at some point, given the Acting CHO is estimating 1 in 25 Victorians have COVID right now.

Anyway, great start tot he game and a great start to the season - really hoping the season isn't too disrupted and we get to see what the girls can do this year. We look to be stronger than last year and a good chance to emulate the success the guys had last year.

I think she's actually good below the knees for her height BUT I think her reaction was off and bit fumbly compared to last season in similar situations. Agree we can forgive that in a young player in in round one and in a new role. She's definitely got some good talls to learn from in that regard so she can get the most out of that athleticism.

The wing really suits her natural skillset of speed, height, marking, kicking and footy smarts.  With more confidence and contact training expect her to keep improving and impressing.  One to watch.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
