Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Anyone who thinks this is the 'same old Melbourne' is kidding themselves. We fully deserved last year and anyone who thinks otherwise can set forth and fornicate.

All of my friends who support other clubs have said that we were clearly the best team in 2021...some even pointed that out to me during the season.

They also said they had never seen a better display of football than the GF, best football they had witnessed in their time watching the game.

Only a fool would be saying same old Melbourne now...that's old news.

Whatever happens from here on I will look back at this year happy to have seen a premiership win by a great team and a performance for the ages.

We are truely a scary proposition and will be better in 2022.

i think the Doggies are the only team who can challenge us. Port are pretenders and the Lions don’t have the talent to match us.

Harmes > Treloar

Understand after winning a granny we are all prone to hyperbolic statements but I find it difficult to agree with this.

Treloar in the GF had 27 possesions and 3 goals. Harmes, if we look at it objectively, had one great kick to Fritsch, four other kicks and quite a few stuff ups.

And as for Max, his game against Geelong was the best game I have ever seen a ruckman play. Like ever. And I am old enough to remember the individual brilliance of Stynes, Madden et al. It was just extraordinary.

This was my favourite Gawn comments on BigFooty from a Cats supporter. This was before the prelim…

Melbourne aren't that good.

Their forward line is hardly scary apart from Pickett - smalls trouble us - and we have a stronger midfield. I don't think Gawn scares Stanley either.”

He’s like all the Cats supporters l know: they don’t rate us, and really believe they have another six flags in them this decade. I hope they stay in denial because that means they will stay mid list or worse for the rest of the decade.

It's the most consistent I've ever seen us and I think its because it was built on a solid foundation of a sound defensive structure and supreme fitness allowing us to run up and down the field all day. I've never seen a Melbourne team with such strong defense as 2021.

As much as I loathed them, I did respect the West Coast Eagles teams of the early 90s under Mick Malthouse.  They were methodical/clinical in the way they defended and refused to conceed scores, but then when they'd worn you down, they could put your team away.  And they generally delivered on the big stages of finals.

I really felt that this year, that was us.

According to Gawn at half time in the prelims Hawkins came up to him and said “you guys will choke”.
After Gawn kicked his 5th he told Hawkins that it looks like they’re about to choke for the 11th time in a prelim.

Nothing will compare to winning a flag, but smashing Geelong in a prelim is just about the greatest feeling one can experience in football.

Recently Gawn was asked which were his favourite games this season.
His reply apart from the GF was the 3 wins against Geelong.
No doubt there's been abit of byplay during previous games that he hasn't forgotten.
Just hates 'em.

Him and Wayne have written their own piece of brilliance in a GF though and that beats Treloar any day..

Hard to look past any Geelong win this year as they were all critical at the time. First win declared us as a strong player, second win got us the minor premiership (after the siren), final win dismantled them on prime time telly and got us into our first granny in 20 years.

I can’t stand Geelong, their arrogance from players to supporters is only bettered by Essendon.

That's the thing with Grand Finals.
Unless you win your heroic deeds don't really count.

But love Harmesy.

Either that or Hawkins is no Steve Waugh when it comes to sledging.

He looked a bit angry when he ( and the rest of the Geelong team) let Max mark uncontested in the final 30 seconds of round 23

No sledger, no emotional control and none to smart imo

They had emotionally and psychologically lost that game before the siren and before the finals started even

Not even well coached in that last qtr. He's on a time from now on...

Don't recall that so vividly, but the way they just so reliably won games and controlled games was as much about disiplined playing to systems, temperament and belief.

I both loathed and admired them, because despite all the talent we had throughout the same era, in all that time through the 90s, we couldn't put together the same consistent performances over a season and big finals to bring home the silverware the way the Eagles did during that reign.

Of course, juice probably also assists recovery and injuries, in order to maintain a fit list over the course of the season, which as we have seen time and again is also critical to sucess at the pointy end, so if those rumors were true, that would certainly put a different slant on thier sucess.  As much as anything though, I'm guessing near exclusive access to WA tallent may also have played a pretty big part in their depth and sustained sucess though that period?

OK maybe he's not better. But I don't really rate Treloar. Had a good granny no doubt. But to my mind he is another accumulator that doesn't really damage teams.

The Dogs are full of them. He turns the ball over a lot and thats one of the reasons the Pies were keen to jettison him. Salary cap being the other main reason of course.

And addressing the original poster that talked about the depth of the Dogs midfield, I think we match them at worst but are probably better

I agree he's very good. Just that there's plenty of those types around. Oliver/Trac are on another planet  impact-wise which was my point.

14 Brownlow votes is about right.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
