Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

2022 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch

There’s a big game later today at Werribee between a Colgate Young Guns team and the Vic Metro U18s.

The Colgate team is made up mainly of overage players eligible for the forthcoming AFL Mid-Season Rookie Draft while the Metro team will not be at full strength because it doesn’t contain some of the Metro boys playing schools footy.

Should still be a good game.

I hope you don’t mind me pushing the Sandringham Dragons but, along with the Oakleigh Chargers, they’ve made a strong contribution to the draft over the past decade and will likely provide a few more top 20 prospects again this year.

For this game, they are represented by six players. Two of them are in the Young Guns team and they are both likely to be snapped up in the AFL Mid-Season Rookie Draft. With Melbourne an outside chance of participating (and they will only have a late choice if they do), I don’t see the Demons getting either of Hall-Kahan or Ramsden, the latter being a ruckman who might be handy for the future.

Of the four Vic Metro boys, Sheezel will go top 10 and Clarke could even squeeze into the first round. Hempel and Rowe would have to impress in this game and the National Championships to get consideration for the draft.

This is a great football story.

I was at the game Jack,  ex Footscray and St Kilda midfielder (and one of the best suburban players ever) Michael Frost fumbled a kick in that Hoppers took too quickly and Colts pounced on the turnover to hit the front and win.

Clarkey was a very, very good leading full forward with a hard edge and a Colts legend - a great local footy character.  It will be great if his son makes it.

Caddy was their boom recruit from the Northern Football League, a prodigiously talented burly Centre Half Forward who was on the Bulldogs supp list at one time or another.

Both genuine local footy stars, team of the century for their clubs' players.

Chris Doerre’s May Power Rankings

AFL Draft - May Power Rankings: Tom Scully (the key forward!) makes his move

(no, you haven’t entered a time warp)

I think Doerre is way out with Elijah Hewitt at 4 can’t see him going top 10. Broadbent is a big boy who will take some time and can’t see him going first round. Busslinger is a 197 CHB with really good game sense, good lateral movement and below his knees for a boy that size. Very good by foot

I posted this on another thread

Been a long time since I posted, work, coaching and kids sport sees very little downtime currently.

I couldn’t make Sundays game at Optus as my youngest was playing community football, but I was at my oldest boys school footy on Saturday Wesley vs Trinity and Tim Lamb was also in attendance. Not a lot on show for Trinity, but I expect Wesleys captain Rueban Ginbey to move up the draft boards this year, medium defender around the 192 mark who’s already debuted for East Perth senior side. Not really big enough for a KPD, but really good third tall, hard at it, nice left foot and good intercept mark. Aidan O’Driscoll potentially for next years draft was another he may have been keeping an eye on.

Had a bit to do with this boy at club level. He has good speed, poise, good foot skills and creates a lot of rebound off halfback, although Wesley play him across wing and HFF as well. He’s the younger brother of Freon Nathan and will only get better

The game that traditionally brings the top draft prospects to the fore is the game between the AFL Academy and a VFL team, this year being Collingwood.

The Academy team generally fares well in these games. Back in 2019, it defeated a Casey Demons team (albeit not at full strength) and before that I recall a win over North Melbourne. Last year’s match up was something of an embarrassment with Geelong’s VFL handing out a 130-point thumping to an Academy team that included all of the big name players (Jacob Van Rooyen and Blake Howes played). Mac Andrew also took part and, despite being virtually unseen for the first three quarters, did enough in the last term to have some draft watchers salivating.

Hoping this year’s event will be more of a contest. There’s a fair chance that if you go to the game, you’ll see Neville Jetta running around in the black and white.

Realistically I am interested in the picks 20 - 50 as I can’t see us featuring in round 1 or early round 2 unless we start trading players out and I just can’t see that happening with this team.??

Good to see not much has changed with you 'Jack' in the months that have gone by since the draft period..

Actually, Jack’s comments are accurate. Andrew did very little for the first three quarters and only played well in the final quarter when the heat had gone out of the game and the Cats were 100 points in front. This is a report from after the game. It certainly doesn’t look like he dominated the game, does it?

Can’t agree with that. I think it’s almost certain that we’ll be in a position to trade out some surplus players and there’s always a chance that we’ll be forced to lose a player to free agency because of salary cap pressure.

You’re 100% right ‘Daz’. I will continue to say what I think and not follow like the sheep proclaiming a promising player with some upside as the best thing since sliced bread. My mail on Mac is that the Suns are pretty happy with his development where he’s being used as a key defender and with mixed results to date. No hurry and no immediate plans to use him as a senior player. I might have a look at him tomorrow at the AFL site’s live stream of Footscray VFL vs Gold Coast game. Cheerio!

Yeah nah.

You're continually finding ways to sneak in little snide remarks still even months on.

Funny you how you mention Howes and JVR being in the same Academy game but also didn't mention they too had quiet ordinary games as well. Sneaky that you left that part out..

Kid lives rent free in your head.

Ha, ha … sounds more like he lives rent free in yours. WJ has always been fair in assessing Mac Andrew. Didn’t have to say anything about how they played that day because nobody hyped up the way they played. That’s the point he made.

You’re a strange cat ‘Daz’. My beef’s not with you but with the so-called experts who did a strange 360 degree turn in a matter of a week.

Knightmare on 25 April, 2021 (the day after the game):-

“The team got pumped by 100+ points. I wouldn't read too much into anyone's performances. No one starred, and I can count on one hand those who I'd consider to have rising stocks as a result of the game.”

A week later, Andrew has come from nowhere to be in the top 15 in Knightmare’s power rankings. I think I was entitled to think that to be most unusual.

As for Howes and JVR, I agree that both had quiet days but who wouldn’t given they were played in the forward line for the entire match in a team that lost by 130 points? According to my notes, JVR presented well and had a few good moments. Not longer after the game he was diagnosed as having glandular fever. Despite that I declared on Demonland nearly three months before the draft that I preferred him to Andrew. And you have a problem with that?

Wouldn't that be a 180 degree turn (ie the complete opposite), Jack?

A 360 degree turn is a full circle, which would have you back where you started from.

If it makes you feel any better, Max Gawn made the same blue in his "Captain's Diary" book.  :D

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
