Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

LATEST POSITION FOR CONTRACT RENEWALS UP TO Novemeber 8

Updated for one year contracts for Hibberd and Melksham

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

The Original post of this thread on Nov 26, 2021 was:

The list for our next Premiership 🎏🏆 tilt is:

image.png.c7ea0056cd90a355e1302134a738d547.png

At the excellent suggestion by @La Dee-vina ComediaI have identified the Premiership 🎏🏆players.

Draftees added are: van Rooyen, Howes, Woewodin as Senior List players and Moniz- Wakefield as a B Rookie.  This gives us one list spot for a senior player if we were take a Delisted FA or and A Rookie in the SSP draft or the mid-year draft.

Note that Jordon is now officially a senior player.

Milestone games in the 2022 H & A season could be:

  • 200:  Melksham, T. McDonald
  • 150:  B. Brown, Salem
  • 100:  Hunt

In terms of 2022 contract renewals:

  • Most of the 2022 OOC's will sort themselves out.
  • However, Brayshaw and Hunt will both be Restricted Free Agents (See edit below).  I can't imagine that either will want to leave and we would get comp draft picks if they did.  Of interest is the length of Brayshaw's contract given that his contemporaries have long terms.
  • Jackson is said to be in contract discussions.
  • And of course, we would all love it if Oliver's contract is extended next year rather than wait with much angst to his RFA year of 2023.  Can't see him wanting to leave.
  • I love all our players and don't like to think of departures.  Nonetheless, next years list management could be challenging as those OOC in 2022 are either Premiership 🎏🏆 players or have yet to play a game.  The exceptions are:  Baker, Bedford and Smith.  Hibberd may be a retirement depending on how the youngsters shape up.

Overall, it is a very stable list for the next few years and is a list that can go back to back.

Edit@old55has advised that Hunt and Weideman will be 'Unrestricted Free Agents' so have reflected that in the table with 'FA'.  With Brayshaw it is a bit harder to tell whether he will be an RFA or a UFA.  The difference being that with the former if there is an offer to him we can match it.  With the latter it means we can't.

Late Edit:  Judd Mc Vee added to the A Rookie list.

The  only list spot we have left is one B Rookie.

Thanks @Lucifers Hero - tremendous work!

I'm speculating that Hunt and Weideman will be Unrestricted FA because I think they are unlikely to be in the top 25% of salary.  As you say, it's hard to tell whether Brayshaw would be in the top 10 money earners or not - I think he's be right on the cusp.  It's probably interesting too whether say Petty would be RFA or UFA on the basis of his long-term contract.

Interesting that the players with the highest numbers of games under their belts are largely from other clubs.

UFA would be my guess old55, just like Frawley in 2014 who was an UFA as he was not in top 25%

Thanks LH that is a mighty effort, very Demon like. How did we secure our Cat B Rookie?

As our NGA player we nominated to match a bid on him in the draft.  As no bid came there was no need to match and we can automatically take him as a B Rookie without him going into any other draft.

That happens later today but I've assumed that it is a fait accompli.

There are two reasons for that.  Age is one factor ie those with more games are older.

But significantly a large number of our top players have missed a season (approx) through significant injury:  Gawn, Lever, Petracca all had ACL.  Salem missed a lot for thyroid and concussion.  Brayshaw, concussion.  Viney, foot.

Great credit to them to come back and become A-level/Elite players after those setbacks.

@Lucifers Hero - When the club re-signed Kade Chandler, he posted on Instagram "2 more years of this, this and this!" with some random pictures of Dees players.

A few weeks ago the club submitted a list to the AFL of Rookies to be upgraded.  Jordon was on it, Chandler was not so remains a Rookie.

However, he cannot remain on the Rookie list after 2022, having been there for 4 years.  I would expect the club will do the same for him as they did for Jordon in 2021- during 2022 renew Chandler's contract, extend it a year and place him on the Senior list as part of the 2022 draft.

Thanks for explaining that LH, Taj and MW are the icing on our cake and we still have a live pick left to snare that elusive ruckman.

Just checked and Judd McVee already on the list.😀😀😳👍👌. We are seriously banking young talent, Mark Williams is going to be very busy.

The concern would be many of our bigs aging at the same time with Tomlinson, May,  BBrown,  and Tmac having just a few years left in them. The easiest player to draft is a mid but key positron players aren't that easy to find as b take more time. We will need to try and poach some again but without top end draft picks to trade this will be challenging. We may be left with a few holes in the list in future years if Weideman and Van Rooyen don't come on

Hopefully Weideman gets a full pre season this year and next year, then judge him!

when you look at the list and ages, we have great coverage all over the ground for next year. If the young kids continue to improve, and we have a good run with injury, adding in the belief instilled by a great final series and a flag, 2022 should be another great season.

When you work through our three finals matches, pretty much every player had one or more very good games, so team and individual belief should be sky high. Add the guys knocking on the door like Hunt, Tomlinson, Jordan, and Melksham puts us in a fantastic position!

Hard to be anything other than happy with our off-season, feels like Xmas has come early for Demonlanders. Not only did we take the players most mentioned on here as the best options for our picks, (JVR and Howes) but we got both Woey and AMW with AMW coming as a B rookie, the only way we were going to get him after taking 4 other players. Just brilliant list management, and we got more picks to trade or trade up again next year!!! Wow!

We also nailed it on need:

KP tall JVR tick

Quality Midfield depth Dunstan tick

Also able to play wing, tick with Howes and Taj

Quick developing small forward/wing with great skills AMW tick

Lockdown defender Judd McVee tick

The final piece is a train on raw ruckman as a category B rookie or in the mid-season draft.

It’s really hard to be anything other than impressed this year. Exciting times!!!

Still a bit of work to do on 2022 expiries

It's been a quiet few weeks since Sparrow news...

From 22 lists, I reckon the priorities are Jackson, Brayshaw, Spargo and the two most recent draftees Laurie and Rosman and contracts will happen in due course, if they choose to stay.

For the others it will be a case of wait and see and take their chances getting into the best 22 or look for another club.  Would dearly love for Hunt to stay but fear he is not on the priority list.

Chandler will be upgraded to the senior list.

Not sure about the rest of the rookies.

M.Brown, 31yo, 196cm

M. Gawn, 30yo, 209cm

M.Daw, 30yo, 195cm

B.Brown, 29yo, 200cm

S.May, 29yo, 193cm

T.McDonald, 29yo, 195cm

A.Tomlinson, 28yo, 194cm

Thats a lot of height heading towards the twilight of their careers.

We will need to focus more on bringing in some height through draft and trade over the next few years.

I would particularly like to get some young rucks in to learn from Stafford, Gawn and Jackson.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
