Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Supporters are already imagining him to be a player that he's not.

His forward craft is not in the ilk of a true forward. He doesn't have the class or goal nous of Fritsch. He has an awkward kick both set shot and in general play.

He's a competitive beast who will be a strong second or third key tall.

But he is not going to be in the Hawkins, Franklin, Cameron, Naughton mould.

He's going to be much more like Balta from the tiges.

Please don’t rooyen for all of us the vibe around this kid JG. Let us have 6 months of dreaming of what could be. Your point is noted however, and one of us will refer to it next season for sure. I’m of the thinking that he is Ox like, rather than Balta, and really hope I’m the one that’s right.

Seems to be able to find the goals... Some people think no players are good enough for the Demons.

Agree with some of what you say 'Jimmy'...

...but not the Balta comparison.

I think Balta is more athlete than footballer, a little dumb at times.

I think JVR is a more natural footballer but not overly athletically gifted.

...maybe a slightly smarter & agile version of our own Tommy Mac.

He's certainly not the 2nd coming of David Schwartz as some have likened him.

We hold Pick 17 in the draft (likely 19 after F/S picks) so I thought it was time to start a thread on this potential recruit.

A key position player who can play at either end of the ground. Probably more known as a forward, but was named at CHB in the 2021 National U/18's team.

From Claremont in WA hopefully he could be a vital cog in the future with all of B. Brown, M. Brown, McDonald, May and Tomlinson 28 or over at the start of next year.

Cal Twomey had him at 21 in his phantom draft and said this about him.

Forward/defender
194cm/88kg
16/4/03
Claremont/Western Australia

Van Rooyen kicked the winning goal for Western Australia against South Australia in the under-19s clash last weekend having drifted forward late after spending most of the game in defence. It is that versatility which has improved the Claremont product's stocks across the year. van Rooyen played at senior level earlier this season whilst battling glandular fever but his past two months have impressed with his work ethic and capacity to play in key positions.

Thoughts?

Great pickup MadAsHell, I think that JVR will play as our second tall and at 6’4” just need to get him up to 98-100kg and watch out he will be playing in tandem with BB, Fritta and TMac plus hopefully another tall we pickup in the Draft.

ps( he is taller than Curnow and Fogarty and is Neita/ Schwartz size)

pps( Could go back to release Petty).

Poor ba$tard - he'd better perform, or he'll be more of a Demonland whipping boy than Spargo and ANB combined...

Nah he is 19 yo we will give him a couple of seasons to hang our coat tails on.!! He has already shown that he has the potential but feel real good about this kid.!!

Is that last line a figmant of your imagination?

I didn't say anything of the sort, so it's interesting you took the quantum leap to arrive at that statement.

Impressive really.

Agreed, with the addendum ball movement needs to change too.

Know what you’re trying to say about Brown, TMac, Fritsch, et al. Bayley is so quick on a lead but doesn’t spend those tickets to stop defensive transition - he plays like he is our FF and that he doesn’t need to do that and when he does that; he looks lazy and we look so slow.

I am hopeful with; an actual FF (either Brown back where he competed for Colemans or McKay-like trade) who plays out of square, TMac back at CHF, JVR as a taller HFF who competes on the ground, Fritsch can be removed from the ‘the tall brigade’ that doesn’t chase and harass, that we can ameliorate a lot of what we saw in 2022.

Surely we all know that BB is not and never will be a strong pack breaking pack marking FF: great on the lead so we need to learn to do just that, kick to a lead (Harmes to leading BB Q3 2021 GF for example).

I expect Van Rooyen to play mostly in the AFL next year. But I just think it’s a tough ask for a developing tall to play key forward for a contender. The backline is much easier for young key position players. Neitz and TMac are examples of talls who started off in defence and built sufficient strength over the years to play at the other end.

Petty to the forward line would lessen the backline, but it could be only marginally if Turner or Van Rooyen or Smith improve. I just think Petty might be a much better forward than Van Rooyen next season.

Petty couod only be a better KPF than anyone else if he is played there.

A lovely set shot kick for goal anywhere within 40 meters.  Beautiful text book kicking action.  Doesn't kick too many high balls which will work in his favour on blustery days.

Reads the ball well, uses the big frame to hold his space and very strong overhead.

Plays pretty much a deep stay-at-home role at Casey.  Would need to work on his wheels / tank a fair degree to make the step up to AFL and also go with his opponents when they're on the rebound / quick transistions.

Would love to see him work on his left side a fair bit.

Reminds me just a little of a less agile stay-at-home Jack Reiwoldt without a left side.

I love the way he launches at the ball and isn't afraid to split a pack. Could be very good for us for some time.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
