Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Yeah, I agree, but I don't see Weid as a recruit by our current crop..

They'd see right through Weid.

I remember Taylor saying that Sam was taken as a project.  At the time we had Watts and Hogan.  No one could have foreseen that the latter two would be gone within a few years.  Not saying Sam will make it but the club had good reasons for taking him at the time.

Also, at the time the club had filled its quota of on-ballers:  Petracca, Brayshaw, Salem, Tyson, Oliver, ANB, Harmes, Hunt, Stretch (with Viney and Jones already at the club) and we were ready to start taking tall players to develop.  So Sam was it.

Fritsch manages

He is not technically a KP forward but a floating half forward and pocket as well.

Really  he is the best forward in a traditional sense as he has all the skills also.

Long May he play on our forward line!!

I hope you're right TBH. Weid's problems seem to be mostly between the ears, I reckon if he can string together some early-season form it will hold him in good stead for the rest of the year.

We had given up on Watts as a forward before 2015. He wouldn't have been a factor.

Hogan was incredible in his rising star year. Our other key forward was an aging Chris Dawes with support from Pederson.

We knew we needed a long term partner for Hogan and picked up Weid and Liam Hulett with pick 46.

A key forward at pick 7 made sense with a few good prospects available in Weid, Curnow and McKay.

I like the idea of another young KPB as the May retirement plan. I still hold hopes for Turner too, but we'll have to see on that one.

When you look at our young defensive crop there's Petty, Rivers, Bowey and then Lever at 25. May has at most 4 or 5 years left and given his hammy issues, I doubt anywhere near that long, so we need to be looking at contingencies.

I'd much prefer we were strategic about list needs for 5+ years from now this year, rather than in 2-3 years going to the FA pool to keep us going. As we've seen at Geelong and to a lesser extent Hawthorn, it leaves you with a very long rebuild, with middle of the road first rounders to build a core around.

So if we can get another Harry Petty and JVR fits that bill it's a no brainer.

We can worry about replenishing elite mids down the line and I'd back our list management team to be clever in acquiring the necessary capital to get a look at the elite talent.

If JT team thinks that he is the best available at our pick then we go for him, otherwise we go with the best available whether he is a mid or KP player.

We are the premiers and we can take development time with our selections and don't have to throw the young players to the wolves before they are ready a la Jack Watts.

Goodwin, Yze and Williams have time to develop players because there is no desperation to win a premiership.

The key to winning more premierships is make sure that the players are not selfish, complacent and strive to get better still, plus luck with injuries.

I looked at the AFL new player limits 42 + 2 B rookies which will be a disaster if teams have lots of injuries, the Western Bulldogs used the most players last year 41 which means player development will be a premium for clubs.

I remember 1981 at the MFC the team used close to 46 players for the season it got so bad that the reserves fielded 21 players + a topup person signed on the day of the match.

Totally agree. It’s Best Available at pick 17. No matter who that is (JVR, Chesser, Sinn, Sonsie, Wilmot or whoever) then we trust in JT.  JT is a legend and is one of the key men behind our premiership.  I’d like to see another youngster with skill and pace added to the midfielder but just that’s me. JVR would also be a handy young key position player to develop with time on our side.

I have way more concerns about replacing Ben Brown and Tmac than worrying about May's eventual replacement.

All of Tmac, Brown and Weid have a history of injuries which could effect the next couple of seasons.

If we go for JVR, I hope he is developed as a fwd.

Fair call.  Perhaps 'project' wasn't the right word.  More that he was taken knowing he would take time to develop.  Having said that he hasn't developed at the rate most of us would like but the club still has faith.  I reckon he might still get there; not the star KPF we would hope for from a pick 9 but a very good contributor to our fwd line.  .

Excellent selection plays like Josh Bruce! Astute Taylor on money. Also, anyone notice full complement of recruiting staff at least 10 where some clubs have as little as 3

Just sets apart successful clubs vs Shamateurs🤩

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
