Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I refuse to refer to that stolen goal as a behind. We actually won the Grand Final by 79 points in my book.

Given the context of the match when that shot took place, I reckon if it was ruled a goal we'd have stopped the dogs momentum and won by 100.

I’m happy with the 74 point win. Plus we went from looking like losing the GF to winning so quickly, to experience going from such a low to such a high was so euphoric, I wouldn’t have wanted it any other way.

The boys put on such a performance, it will never lose any of its nostalgia for me. It was of such a level, it will forever be remembered in the annals of AFL history. It was truly worth waiting for, maybe equaled but never topped.

Such was our boys’ impact, it has pretty much already become footy folklore. It cant get any better than that.

It has surpassed the most recent example which was Col Sylvia's 38 and 4 against the Hawks in their prime.

Some of Neita's efforts in the early 2000's were the examples before that.

Not take away from Max's season but are there are other individual games to call out?

The Wiz's 9 goals after half time on Queens Birthday?

Allen Jakovich's 11 goals 9 vs North Melbourne?

The Wiz's 8 goals in the 2000 preliminary final?

I doubt anyone gets belted in the back of the head more than Maxy. That thug Nankervis being the primary culprit. He never flinches, never goes into his shell, never loses his cool. Just gets on with the job. Legend

The greatest captains from the past have always had the ability to lead from adversity and lift their team to victory. Think Voss, Kelly, Lyon, Judd, Carey for a few.

Until R23 at Geelong, Maxie had shown how to lead off the field but not yet demonstrated it on the field. His last quarter efforts then won the game (not just THAT goal but watch him at the start of the quarter) but he repeated the effort in Q3 of the prelim final and, by his selfless decision to watch Jackson in Q3 of the GF, he showed how to lead on the field. True captain's efforts for which he and we should be proud.

His grace and charm since then have anointed him as the GOOT - greatest of our time.

Clarrie's performance v Adelaide ... the loss by one point.

Dunstall called it the best game he has ever seen by a ruckman. This was a few days after the game and he was completely serous.

Truly remarkable. No coincidence the players played with such freedom and confidence in the GF.  he sets the tone.

Absolute masterstroke making him captain, look an obvious call now, but not in 2019 imo

Don't forget Ray Carr's 11-goal effort, just once.

Trac's Norm Smith performance in the granny was as good as any. Almost topped Simon Blacks possession record. On a par if not better than any of Dusty's efforts

A few years ago I got a call from the club, in a membership drive.  I'd already renewed as it happened, but we had a bit of a chat.  The fella who rang introduced himself as Max Gawn.  He'd played his first senior game a few weeks earlier and I'd been in Melbourne and saw it.  I remember him going for a bit of a run through the centre, and he played with a kind of looseness that was really entertaining to watch.  I told him so, and wished him well.  I said I saw Robbie Flower's first game, and now I'd seen his too - great times, seeing someone play their first game with flair.  Of course, I had no idea what a god I was talking to, and Max would not remember a random supporter telling him that, back then - but I do.  It makes the pleasure of his extraordinary rise all the more wonderful, for me.  Must be like that for everyone he shook hands with, made a coffee for, etc.  Fabulous stuff.  And then - look at the impact these guys have!  Like Justin Langer going on about how the team went out there and played for each other, cared, and especially that they made it fun - it was the Max Gawn songbook!  Culture-changing stuff.  They make you so proud...  Love these guys.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
