Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Probably an odd thing to bring up!

But I would definitely be curious to know how some former players and coaches feel about the Demons finally having Premiership success in 2021?

Is it a case of sour grapes?

Or would they be genuinely happy for the Melbourne Demons finally ending their Premiership drought after 57 long years?

I would definitely be curious to know the thoughts of Brock McLean, Mark "Jacko" Jackson, Mark Neeld, Neil Balme to name a few.

Anyway, I just thought it would be interesting to see if any of them have some love left for the Melbourne Demons or they probably don't give a stuff.

I saw Brian Wilson and Jack Watts were genuinely happy for our success. That was very heart warming to see!

Either way, we are long last, after waiting so long since 1964, the reigning AFL Premiers!

Balme has had premiership success at the filth, catties and toigers. He might not need us.

Chris Johnson comes to mind. Bailey wasn’t happy when he walked out. I hope his dad Alan is happy! Jeremy Howe?

Well to be honest it is all about relationships and team mates.  I assume Howe is happy for TMc.  Bevo keeps in touch with some mates from his days at the Dees.  If we weren't playing against them I am sure he would happy for our win.

I wonder who Scully keeps in touch with.

I asked them for you, and this was the tenor of their responses;

McLean: No love. Regrets his actions a bit, but we brought it on ourselves.
Jackson: Couldn’t give much of a hoot for anything not related to him.
Neeld: Feeling a little self-conscious, why is everyone always so mean?
Balme: Not particularly fussed either way. Good luck next year boys.

Is there anyone else in particular you want me to get on the phone to?

Really who gives a toss what some EX Demons think

Most will  be  glad and many overjoyed and the odd one bearing a grudge may not have those feelings. Largely snd almost  universally our Flag triumph has been wonderfully received by the Footy World  and neutral fans very congratulatory. I received many good luck messages and also congrats from friends and acquaintances which I replied to and cherished.

In Perth for the game the same attitude was both heartening and warm from Freo especially and Eagles fans who embraced the whole game and build up and hold over the City for about a fortnight.

I also believe our balanced snd mature celebrations have resulted in a hugely respected response and also an admission given the result and the margin we thoroughly deserved our triumph as the undoubted best team in the AFL in 2021.

Its also a very important factor to success and in developing our response for 2022 and beyond.

Who cares.

Club is bigger then the individual.

It’s also a collection of individuals. Neeld gets too much ire on here, same with Schwab, and others in the past that did what they felt was best for the club.

I do wonder if they found some solace in the premiership, and if they are Demons, we should have the strength and confidence to welcome them back.

While no where near in the same stratosphere as the two aforementioned, I've often felt that Gary Lyon and Jimmy Stynes have been served up the rath of scorned Demons faithful for the lack of imeediate sucess back when they put their hand up to contribute to the club's administration.

So happy for the amazing way both were embraced and included in our premiership glory.  Barring guys like Jimmy and Robbie not being able to be here, I hardly think it could have played out better, if only perhaps Maxy Gawn could have been involved in that little calibration with the Stynes family, but I'm sure he would have if it weren't for bloody COVID.

I really loved that post match interview with Alan Jackovic with Garry in the rooms.  It was clear from that and numerous others I've seen or heard him do over the years (the Demonland podcast is a ripper) that Jacko both still bleeds Red & Blue and has a great empathy and kinship with us supporters.

Apparently the Bulldogs players may not be with you there?

Neeld had no choice. One name comes to mind is Derryn Hinch.

I’d like to think of “supporters” who left the club for other clubs because they were tired of losing are embarrassed now (a guy I went to school with comes to mind.) I do remember a troll post about after we had a bad year some guy on Facebook came in and declared that after that game he was no longer a supporter of demons after 40+ years and now was a paid up member of Essendon. I doubt it was real though. How can you change a team to another and already be passionate enough about them to sign as a member after a game?

Are well, if it were true, I think they've been well and truely hit by the karma bus with all the great success Essendon have had, drugs scandle and all!!

Balmey: Life has moved on. The bloke does football as a job, and he’s the best in the role he’s taken on since he got sacked. A wry smile at best.

Neeld: He might feel a bit resentful, but that’s speculation. My belief is that his standing in the AFL was badly damaged after he got sacked from us. I said it would be tough for him to get another gig so balding was his experience. He got a position at Essendon, but I’d say people’s perceptions of him were too influenced by images of him losing his **** in the coach’s box.
He would be happy for TMac, Viney and Maxy, but it would be harder for him to do so for the rest of the squad as he had nothing to do with him.

Junior and Cam Bruce: Junior mended fences after a lot of work by PJ to heal that wound. He is reconciled with us.

It would be interesting to see where Bruce stands.

Mark ‘Jacko’ Jackson: Has been open in his contempt for us. He has gone on record saying we would never go anywhere and had no guts (though he has nothing nice to say about the Saints either).

Bloke is a dead set plonker and he can piddle off.

Derryn Hinch: Has said he is happier doing the gardening on a weekend and his anger at us wasn’t necessarily footy related. It boiled down to women not being allowed into MFC related MCC functions. Of that I can sympathize with his anger, but would add we’ve come a long way as a club since then.

So long as he’s not actively bagging the club, he can suit himself.

Tom Scully: Should consider himself lucky that the GF wasn’t played in Melbourne. It might have been ungracious, but the standing boovation he would have copped at the retirees lap of honor would have been epic.

I’ve tried to leave schafenfreude out of it, but I did get some satisfaction out of his last AFL season running parallel with our flag. I was hoping that he realized that solidarity, loyalty and resilience through tough times did mean something then and they mean something now.

In some ways though, his leaving was the canary in the coal mine. While we’ve tried to justify it as a ‘trade win’ on this board because ‘we got Jesse Hogan’, let’s be blunt. It was a PR, cultural and list management disaster that he left. But if it did anything, it was the first step in making us realize that the ship wasn’t right and that major surgery was required. So I guess we should be thankful(?) that him leaving happened.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
