Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Waiting for durango to tell us he'll need to improve to hold his place. 🙂

Well I believe he had a great season considering he played no football last year but he reminds me of Steven Smith and wears his number, yes most of the fringe players will have to maintain the form show this season or get they will loose their place to a player in better form which is why premiers are the hunted now not the hunters.

Carl Lewis once said 'when your number one you have to train like your number two'.

He is our main spoiler/negater - a role he fills will efficiency and team awareness. Considering he was a fill-in for Tomlinson, he has had a superb year. His 2nd efforts after the spoil deserve special mention.

If Tomlinson comes back in, I would like to see Petty tried forward, which is where he trained prior to Tomlinson going down. He is seriously good in the air and could provide serious aerial issues for opposition.

Harrison Petty another ready made player that was sitting in the wings awaiting his opportunity and when it came boy was he ready to roll. It will be very hard to squeeze young Harrison out of the side if he continues that type of form. He is a Premiership player and at 197 cm he is big enough to cover resting rucks.💕❤️💙

It just shows never write anyone off after a “less than spectacular” debut.  Quite a few here wanted him delisted if not straight after his debut at the season’s end.

Another example of reward for persistence and effort, now a hallmark of this magnificent club culture.

I keep forgetting he’s only 21 years old.  Such maturity for one so young. ❤️💙

Anyone can lose their place if they lose form and another knocks on the door, but I'm not so sure Petty (and a few others you have mentioned like Sparrow and Spargo) are still "fringe".

Here we go again. Petty is a natural defender. Tattoo it on your forehead. He is a Defender.

Tomlinson would be a much better option as a forward. He played some very good games for GWS as a marking fwd.

But never rule anything out. Who knows what will happen in the future?

David Neitz was an AA CHB in 1995 before going forward and becoming Melbourne's leading goal scorer. Tom McDonald spent years in the backline.

Blame @Whispering_Jack

He's the record keeper and he sent me the player reviews.

Forget about the typo, I just can't quite reconcile that he only played 11 games in 2021 and only a total of 19.

Performs like a mature 100 game player.

Just on the games played though, by my reckoning,  it was actually 19 games 2021 (including finals) and 11 pre 2021 for a career total of 30, which matches a little better with the maturity he played with.

BTW, I didn't set out to correct the record, but from my recollection of when Tomlinson went down, 11 games 2021 seemed like way to few, as again just from recollection, it when Out: Tomlinson injured, In: Petty the week after, who played every game? for the remainder of the season and didn't miss a beat.

Petty played 19 games in 2021, for the record.

The draft experts at the time suggested we were getting a gem in Petty. Given the 30 game sample on offer, it’s hard to argue. He should be a fine and very dependable defender for the Dees when he’s up to the 100 game mark.

The big question is does Tomlinson replace Petty next year as that 3rd defender who plays on the talls?

If yes, then Petty might have to contend with T Mac for a key fwd role.

If no, then Tomlinson may have to reinvent himself as a winger which he wasn’t good at in early 2020, or play for Casey.

Good problems to have.

I don't remember us "going" the first time, so maybe our first date was a bit bland, or that I hate tattoos.

In refence to Petty, I agree he is a very good and natural defender, but my point remains: until Tomlinson went down he trained with the forwards and was being shaped for that part of the ground. It remains wait and see, and he could play either or become a swingman. Good problems to have.

Having a second string to one’s bow, other skill sets up one’s sleeve, can only be of benefit to both the individual and to the team.   IMVHO he looks a natural defender, but playing in defence can certainly also benefit the development of and understanding of forward skills.

3rd tall down back, until he goes past may or lever he will always be in the last half dozen or so selected each week

Um yeah

being in the last 6 or so implies that he is the last of the starting 18 to be picked...don't think so....

Hibbo, TMc, Bowey, even Kossie when gone off the boil surely gets more talk around the selection table.

Not true. He was very ordinary up forward for GWS, which is why they stopped trying him there. Petty is a better natural footballer than Tommo and more competitive. He played forward in the latter part of 2019, when we were horrible, and did remarkably well. Smart, good hands, good kick. Kid will become a forward a la David Nietz, nothing surer. Tommo and ‘Disco’ Turner, who aren’t forwards, will cover the spot down back nicely.

Wrong. He played decent footy for GWS as a fwd for periods in 2014 & 2018 - check out his youtube highlights. He kicked over 35 goals for them.

With Cam McCarthy, Finlayson, Jeremy Cameron, Himmelberg, Lobb & later Riccardi he had a lot of competition for a key fwd spot.

  • 2 weeks later...

I never expected very much from his 8 earlier games a couple of years ago when he filled in up forward. what I did see during that short stint was a kid that is very competitive and never takes a backwards step. I liked his aggression and the fact that, even at that early stage of his footy life, he gave a good as he got.

2021 showed Harry was a well developed player who is able to fit into the defensive structure very, very well. While he has maintained his aggression it is tempered with a clear understanding of his role in things down back.

I can see that there will be a lot of competition to fill spots in the team and I look forward to watching that unfold.

Harry has played 19 games so far and I can see him getting more critical to our structure as he gins more experience. He may well step into May's shoes in the future.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
