Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Jake Bowey smart footy

In the lead up to Angus' third quarter goal, it was Jake Bowey who found the ball and in a nanosecond summed up the situation and deliberately delivered a short pass to Angus to mark and goal.

Smart footy. He has shown many times in his few games that he has the footy smarts to be a star. Impressive.

Watched it multiple times and I am certain.

Watching it live, he was so quick to dispose of the ball that I thought for sure he was just desperate to get the kick away. But after many (and I mean MANY) re-watchings, I now think despite his age and inexperience he knew exactly where he wanted the ball to go.

The amount of times in the last few games of the year where Bowza would be pinned against the boundary or in heavy traffic and go to kick it, I'd think "OK, long dump kick to a contest" only for him to lace out a teammate 30m away with a kick that barely goes above head height..... crazy stuff. The prospect of him and Salem distributing off half back for years to come is pretty enticing 🤤

Still a kid.  He looks like he has been told to report to the headmasters office when whatever he has attempted hasnt come off.

I like it how, even though we're all in awe of the fact he's a premiership player after only seven games, there's no way anyone could argue that he didn't deserve it. With the opportunity he was given, he barely put a foot wrong and in fact played an important role for the team - in no way just a stopgap or filler player, as you might expect from a player who sort of falls into a premiership team like this. The novelty of it isn't how few games he played, it's how well he played in those games.

I thought he was kicking it out in front of the leading player (from memory Brown?) who pulled up when Angus dived for it.  Either way it was clever play in a telephone box

He was clearly trying to kick it in to the gap to the advantage of a Melbourne player, any Melbourne player, and it was Gus who got there first. Good thinking in a tight game not to blaze away inside 50 (so 2019).

In the past players like Jake Bowey were gifted games on potential because they were 1st round draft picks but this year he got his chance late in the season with good form at Casey due to injury to the incumbent and basically made the position his own on form.

I think he will win another Rising Star Award next year if he continues his form from this year and maybe be in the running to be the Rising Star along with Daicos and Horne-Francis

Angus definitely runs to space. Bowey deliberately gives the ball some air, so that Angus can run towards it.
excellent thinking from both players, i agree

Speaking of that Gussie mark, you don’t see enough of that type of mark these days.

Gus pointed to where he wanted the ball kicked (like Gawny against Geelong in R23). And Bowser placed it beautifully...

I really rate this kid. 7 games and already he is a quick, smart decision maker and rarely turns over the ball. He is just so clean as well, I am dying to see what he looks like after 50 - 100 games.

This is a big call, so I don't need a great deal of advice on the comment. That aside, if I was asked to describe a clone of a mid-career Hassa Mann, I would start with a summary of what Bowey has displayed, so far - and probably finish with where he could be in games to come.

Definitely meant the chip kick to space where Gus was calling for it. Smart decision.

So much conjecture over whether that one pass to Gus was intended for him or not (personally, I thought it was directed to Ben Brown), but I think the key point here is that Bowey pulls off this type of kick multiple times a game.  I loved pleanty more of his kicks in the grand final and games leading up to it.

Such natural poise.  Usually doesn't try to bite off the miracle pass, so just picks sound options most of the time, in the blink of a eye.  But when he does decide to go big and hit up the target with a switch kick through the centre, it 'hits his team mates on the chest' as the man himself would say.  His awareness of players around him and ability and agility to get out of a tight spot are elite as well.

Love watching him play and if he keeps on the trajectory he's on, I think we could well have another AA player on our hands.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
