Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Extended contract for Simon Goodwin?

4 year extension feels right for me, that gives him 5 more years and that will take him to the latter stages of Trac and Oliver’s careers. It will see Max hand over the reins to Jacko and the next round of young boys reach their peak.

Any further updates?

I am pretty confident Simon Goodwin will re-sign for another 4 or 5 years.

The lure of creating a Chicago Bulls or Boston Celtics dynasty would be incredibly tantalizing for him and the rest of the players here at the Demons.

After 57 years of pain and misery a few flags would be wonderful for us long-suffering Melbourne supporters and members.

We haven't had back to back consistent seasons under Goodwin.

For what it is worth.

After 2018 we had an outrageous run of injuries and subsequent operations to many players that severely affected their pre seasons. After 2021 we now understand the value of a proper, full, injury free pre season so I am prepared to overlook 2019.

In 2020 we had a great pre season but all that work was undone by the covid induced delays to the season so that our advantage was lost. Two games in Cairns with 5 days between hurt us but we finished the year in good style and were perhaps undone by the truncated season. Given our form at the end of the year, playing another 5 games might have got us into the finals and then who knows?

This year 2022 is then the first real test for Goody. Sign him up (a premiership cup is worth it) but let us hold our fire until the end of the year.

Under Goody ( and remember he inherited a team on the rise since Roosy  took over in 2017) other than 2019 with the injury, surgeries and the associated pre season fitness debacle we have not finished lower than 9th.

our WINS  57 LOSSES 31 DRAWS 1 from 89 MATCHES which is approx 64% a very good ratio in anyone's language. ONE FLAG  also  one Prelim Final.

His real record is MATCHES  111

WINS  62    LOSSES    48   DRAWS 1

ONE FLAG and ONE PRELIM  FINAL.

Approx   56%   Which is still  acceptable.

Depending  upon your own expectations with our list it shows that you need about 5/8 years to develop a proper sustainable successful list if you are coming from the Rock Bottom  that was 2007/2013 at our Club.

Yes Jason Taylor you have your footprint hand and  mind all over our list since about 2014/5.

Thank  you to all the Coaches snd FD people over the period from 2014!!

My only query on Goodwin is ' Is he the coach who can help us regain the mantle of the team which guards space the best in the league?

In the horror years, that was the only thing us  supporters could cling onto.

Wrong see my earlier posts.

If you consider 9 th in 2017 (12-10 ) and 2020 (9-8) bad years then you are being too nit picking.

It's well established 2019 reasons for the 5-17 result and If Simon gets us 2 out of 3 flags by 2024 then 3 flags in 4 years is not the sort of result you part ways.

By all means give Simon the 3 years extension but to say that's all now if he succeeds and you reflecting in your opinion about 2017 and 2020 to penalise him then is ridiculous.

So what you're saying is his 57th win was our first premiership in 57 years?

Sign him up for life, anyone that can win a flag for the Dees, deserves to leave when he wants to.

The footy cap does make it tricky. I’d imagine for that reason they’ll go a long deal rather than more money over less years. We’ve done that with all our senior players.

But then it’s the pay out number that really matters. Clubs without good financial positions can only guarantee 6 month deals payouts at any time I believe. Goodwin’s manager probably wants it all guaranteed, I sure would!

Not sure we can rely on the afl stepping in to employ him like they have with Clarkson and possibly Brad Scott too. Anyway, Goody should get a long term deal which really sets him up financially (if he isn’t already) and hopefully that means he can continue to be at his best. It’s one less thing to stress about in an unhealthily stressful job.

So 9th may be ok for you but not for me given we should have made the finals in both years. Also can't just pretend 2019 didn't happen!

2017 we won the first 2 matches and by the end of the year we shot ourselves in the foot losing to a bunch of teams below us as we couldn't handle the expectations, poor selection decisions, poor coaching, and poor injury management. We lost to Freo 14th, Hawt 12th, Norf twice 15th, Blues 16th, and against Coll 13th in a terrible performance in a must win game.

2019 we suffered for not managing the playing list in 2018 and going in all chips. Over half the starting 22 were not on the track until after xmas for preseason ... we showed little fight throughout the back end of the year despite some injured players returning.

2020 we started really poorly 1-4 and had the wrong game plan until we had a mid season reset and make some changes to the game plan. We still had a chance by the end of 2020, but we dropped games to teams below us again and couldn't manage expectations. GWS 10th, Freo 12th, Sydn 16th. Lost 3 of last 4 games.

2021 was perfect and showed we should have done better in prior seasons with the list we have.

2018 was pleasingly above expectation but we mismanaged our injuries and paid for it in 2019. Some of the risks taken can be justified re injury management but not all of them.

In summary, our poor years have been heavily self inflicted. So I would sign him up for 2 and a 3rd year based on performance conditions. If he wants more we sign Yze up. The influence of the new assistants has been the main reason for our 2021 turnaround IMO and a huge shout out to Pert for getting the right football set up in place to compliment Goodwins strengths and weaknesses

If a flag doesn’t convince you that he’s the right bloke then nothing will.

Things changing very quickly Foopy and coaches burn out quickly or lose touch under the unhealthy pressures the job brings e.g. one day Buckley, Clarkson, Lyon and others are star coaches and the next year their clubs are pushing them out for underperformance ... that's the reality of AFL footy whether you like it or not and it pays not to give very long term deals ... a 3 year extension means he coaches for another 4 years ... that's plenty

You fail to acknowledge the While you have provided a long list of half glass empty and worst case scenarios to try and justify your expectations ( based on 2021 mainly) you fail to acknowledge the vast improvement in all areas of the Club since 2017.
Simply  the Club was in developmental stage as well as the players still evolving and the recruiting putting the finishing touches like Kossie Dogga Riv and Lingers and Tommo and May in 2019 plus Sparrow  and Jordan in 2018 draft along with Lever that season.

Then in 2020 we drafted Bowey and secured BBB.

Also your correct as all Demons fans acknowledge that Chocco and Ooze were pivotal in our success with Goody and the other Coaches and FD and JT and his team.

My point us that not all your excuses/ reasons are justified in expectations as the 2017-21 years showed.

This year was by wins and performances either the best year ever for the Club or at least the equal of say 1956 or any of the other Glory Days wins.

we were not ready in 2017 or 2018 mentally or physically and 2019 yes happened but the reasons are well known not great but it was what it was.

2020 we actually won 6 out of 9 with the Cairns  disasters the bugbear and costing us a Finals berth.

(We did beat GWS in Round 16 as I was at that game ).

Simon like all Coaches has evolved and as Clarkson Hardwick Beveridge Thompson and Buckley have shown it's hard to win flags snd after 4/5 years most are at their peak.

You can lie awake each night at these years as missed opportunities and yes I was disappointed pointed as I have a glass half full approach but I can say if you can see my posts  from early 2021 I deducted that we would improve dramatically and get top4 if we had an injury free run. About 6/8 reasons including recruiting,  maturing ( Trac Clarry Spargs TMac etc) new  coaching plus a modified game plan and some good defensive signs in 2020 all looked promising for us.

Now we have the opportunity to go back to back for the first time in 62 years and there is no real reason why we won't give this opportunity a real red hot shake!!

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
