Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

2021 Player Reviews: #6 Luke Jackson

Jackson’s rate of development throughout 2021 was exponential. As he’s matured, he’s become a very hard player to match up on whether playing in ruck or up forward and his performance in the grand final, in particular during the third quarter surge, was inspirational.

This kid is going to be unbelievable. He has so many intangibles - the way he glides across the ground, his athleticism and ability around the ball - so excited to see what he can produce over the next 10 years at the dees. Seems like an absolutely stand-up kid as well. Go Dogga

I have never seen a player who is a ruckman like Jackson produce a better first 30 games in 2 years which means that the upside is unbelievable.

If he stay fit and health he will win at least one brownlow and one Norm Smith to go with Multipe Premiership in a fabulous career at the MFC.

The mischievous spaniel with the missing front teeth.

His development in 2021 was phenomenal.  In March / April he was a role player, by September he had become a game changer.

We wait in awe for when he grows out of his puppy-hood!  Go Dogga!

What a pick up what a star, LJ, Jack,Clarry and Tracc were irresistible in that 18 minutes in the third that stunned the Dogs and put us on the path to a crushing win. I will always remember those 18 minutes and the role that Luke played in our drought breaker and he was still four days off his 20th birthday.!!!!!💕❤️💙

All three 2019 draftees contributed so much to our 2021 premiership year.

From the first time I saw Jackson doing his follow up in the ruck move I knew we had something special. He has also moved from competing round the ground to being a focal point taking crucial marks and kicking key goals.

The upside is enormous but the present is so rewarding.

Thanks Luke

Iv'e watched the first 1/4 many times.

The take away is how the team settled straight and looked 'on',  and most young players got involved. Not one sign of nerves and Jackson was a key member of that cohort. His quick intercept and handball to Charlie Spargo a delight.

Clean hands and fast brain.

It may seem like the third quarter of the GF has wiped out my memory of the entire rest of the year, but... well, yeah, it pretty much has.

And he was HUGE in that third quarter. The tap, the breakaway like a (small) midfielder, and the rocket handball to Oliver was just absolute perfection. Not just the skill there, but the choice - he could have been forgiven for handballing it to Viney, who was hot and collided with Daniel. Wouldn't have been a goal if he'd made that choice.

Only question is, how long before he's a better player than Gawn? If you ask Max, he'd say with honest belief that he already is, but no doubt the (premiership) skipper underestimates his own capability.

I hardly know what to type about this bloke. There is no category for him. The closest was Dean Cox, but Cox lumbered along compared to Jackson. In 2020 he ran under the ball or had concrete hands. By the 2021 GF, he is clunking pack marks, tackling, playing as a 4th mid-fielder, winning centre  and in-play ruck contests, and kicking goals from 50 metres.

He could tear the competition apart in the next 5 years.

Rising Star and Premiership player at 20. Has that ever been done?

19 actually! His Birthday is the 29th of September 2001. He is now only 20 years old and has played only 30 games! We are talking about a Premiership player and a Rising Star Award winner! The upside is incredible!

Dogga is an absolute freak. He has only just started his career! The exhilarating potential for Luke Jackson to become a star of the competition is massive! We could be talking about a Demons player in the same league as the Kangaroos' Wayne Carey, but with more Premierships in 10 years time. That's how much talent this young fella has. Imagine when he starts building more strength into his body and he is taking those huge contested marks he does in the forward line rather than on the wing?! Opposition sides will be terrified as to how they will combat his dominance!

My only lingering concern is that fact that Dogga is originally from WA and there will always be the temptation for him to go home to where family is. Hopefully, we can at least win a few more Premierships if that does ever happen. However, he seems very happy, having just won a Premiership, and having one of his best mates in Trent Rivers at the Melbourne Football Club also works in our favour.

A report in a Canberra newspaper recently stated that Luke's family will be moving to live in good old Melbourne town .Lets hope that report is accurate.Such an impressive junior with so-so much potential.

This! This!!

Unbelievable decision-making under intense pressure. If Viney gets the handball - Daniel tackles him, maybe he gets a handball away to Clarrie.  Maybe.

But Jackson made the rugby "cut out pass" and took that option away from the dogs.

I wonder if the clichéd "basketball" experience plays a role here. Not sure basketball develops that sort of decision-making... if you've got it then it's very very valuable in basketball.

I'm not sure you can coach that sort of decision-making. He's a wonder. Could be a ruckman sized Pendlebury.

He has that rare ability to put a player into space, and times his disposals to perfection. As mentioned above in prior posts his hand passes to Spargo and then Oliver were just perfect.

He will just continue to improve, can’t wait to see how far he can go!!

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
