Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I also think Howes has genuine claims as a first rounder and would be right in the mix for our pick.

I'm very big on Howes. Reckon he is someone Taylor and Goody would love. Massive upside.

The players we’ve been linked to (at this stage) appear to be in the similar mould...athletic & versatile.

A benefit of having a reasonably balanced list is we’re in a really good spot to take the best of a certain type and plug them in wherever we may need them.

Howes would be a good pick for us, Twomey also links us to some versatile hb types, which in time could give us the chance to have a look at Riv getting some mid rotation time.

Does anybody know about Jed Brereton, I know he is 201cm but what is he like as a player or is he just tall.

Probably a firewall behind this but it contains some quotes about him from his coach at Bendigo, Danny O'Bree -

AFL draft 2021: Bendigo’s bonanza crop of talented players

The tallest Pioneer of them all, Jed Brereton, 201 cm, hailing from Leitchville Gunbower, could be a draft smoky, according to O’Bree.

“His growth this year has been significant,” he said.

“We tried him as a ruckman to start with but with his skillset we put him back as a defender and his improvement just went through the roof.

“He just got better as the year went on

“He’s a very, very good kick and he’s very good below his knees for a 200cm player.

“His improvement in the next 12 months is going to be a really big watch.”

Agree. He’s a talent.  Very good mark, skills and second efforts make him versatile across midfield and the forward 50.  Was hoping Howes would somehow slip down to the Dees in the second round but think he will be around the 18-25 draft pick.

Same. I’m thinking he might not even be there for us to take though.

It looks like there’ll be some quality options available at our pick though. Another shrewd move from our footy dept.

Every way you read the phantom drafts and x player rising in calculations means someone needs to be sliding the other way. Whichever way you cut it there appears to be an abundance of smooth moving mids/flanks which appears to be our best need unless we strongly rate a young tall. With what’s available we know JTs track record over nailing it is second to none.

Howes is said to be under strong consideration by the Giants who have been constantly linked with Mac Andrew.

Who would take Andrew if not GWS?

The supporters of other clubs on various other online sites I’m reading are only lukewarm about him are more interested in the more popular midsized players in the draft.

Gold Coast, Fremantle, St Kilda?

Sounds about par for the course with the Suns. They effectively have one pick in this draft after stuffing up their salary cap, list management and letting one of their few veteran hard bodied mids slip to a rival cellar dwellar. Why not take a highly speculative skinny ruck prospect who is said to be AFL ready in 2024?

Because everyone in the media and most on line experts are saying that he’s guaranteed to go top ten. I thought maybe Fremantle would have a crack at him although they’re well served in the ruck and are pretty much into getting some home grown WA talent.

Final Siren Podcast

Phantom draft in the form of a podcast from the Rookie Me website formerly known as Draft Central.

Melbourne picks were

19. Owens
38. Warner
45. Lohmann
51. Ballantyne
56. Woewodin (matched bid)

Interesting phantom draft.  Owens comes under the Saints NGA allocations. They’d be majorly [censored]-off if MFC grabbed him at “19”.
(Saints fans still can’t believe they missed on Petracca).

Owens plays like Jake Stringer from my view.  An agile forward (190cm) who could rotate through stints in the midfield.  He’s a good player, through strong aerial skills and is good in the contest. I thought he’d be mid 2nd round (25-35 range) but given he wins strong contested footy, he may appeal to our 🏆JT️.

I feel like GCS go for the most media hyped pick every year.

It's an interesting choice on their behalf, clearly a massive talent but not sure the Suns can afford to wait 3-4 years before consistent afl performance. They don't exactly have a great track record of developing talent either.

Melbourne allegedly interested in moving up to GWS 13 which is up for grabs. Other clubs will probably have better offers with future picks.

Interesting I wonder which player we are after. Maybe Sinn or Goater?!

I hope Brisbane don’t get it as they have been linked with lots of player that we have.
The flip side is our pick is before there lions pick and we have been linked with Howes.
Richmond are probably in the driving seat to get pick 13.

GWS recruiting manager was fairly cagey, talked up the 4 players they liked and didn’t confirm or deny any bids.

My guess is they bid on Darcy, don’t bid on Daicos due to a deal with the Pies and end up taking Callaghan rather than rolling the dice on Mac or Gibcus.

I definitely think they’ll put 13 on the table for a future first if the top line talls are gone. Would they consider 13 for 17 and 39 to slide down and take someone in that second group of talls like JVR - maybe.

GWS have a problem in that there is no real advantage for them trading down as any pick in the 30s for example would be inefficiently consumed matching a bid for Josh Fahey.  It would make more sense for them to trade down and get a future pick as the benefit, which rules us out.  St Kilda are another team that could benefit from a trade down, but they are hamstrung for the same reason.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
