Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

So which player would you say sorry to because you thought they weren't good, a list clogger or simply thought they'd never make it over the years.

Mine include

Alex Neal-Bullen - Never really rated him over the years, thought he was just going to be a player that got his few possessions but never did anything with them & thought shouldn't be in the team. This season he has taken his game to a new level, he is kicking more goals, his tackle pressure has gone up a notch & is definitely using the ball better.

Charlie Spargo - didn't think he kicked enough goals, his pressure wasn't great and he did go the duck. Again this season has taken his game up another level and his finals were great.

Christian Petracca- Only because we knew he had the talent & always said he should look at the Bont for the player he should be and boy he has probably passed him. He has now set the standard of what his seasons should be like. We finally saw the player he should be this year especially in the GF. From years ago when he'ds butcher the ball and I remember 1 game where he didn't even make the distance 30 metres out. Just a different player now.

Tom Sparrow- Thought Nathan Jones should have taken his spot leading up to the finals but Tom did the right things and his final performances were great. He contributed to games he played in and his GF goal was outstanding.

Jake Bowey- When he was picked for his 1st game thought why bring in a new kid, didn't know a lot about him but boy what a great 7 games. He uses the ball well, calm under pressure and handled the finals like a seasoned campaigner.

TMac - thought he was finished. Desperately wanted him traded last year. With BB and the Weid injured in preseason he stepped up and delivered big time. Hats off. I was wrong. I'm sorry Tommy

I think a lot of posters owe ANB an apology. But then again, you can only judge that player at that time on their form.

ANBs form in 2019 was truly horrific and I'm not going to apologise for thinking that he was done. Even the club asked him to look elsewhere (and there were no options). Some of those fumbles are still etched into my brain.

However, I will 100% praise him for how he has turned it around. Truly incredible. More so than Tmac in my opinion as you could see Tmac was struggling to get right from injuries.

Yep he’s turned it around, and has done so while he’s still got a lot to give. I often forget that he’s still quite young, because he debuted way back in ‘15.

Spargo is the main one.

The club looked to trade ANB and McDonald last year so I don’t feel totally bad about incorrectly writing them off.

Sparrow I thought shouldn’t be playing finals, how wrong I was.

I took a while to warm to Lever, but ever since the defensive system started clicking then so did he.

I really didn’t think we should have drafted another ruckman in Jackson but he’s just extended Gawn’s career by three years, absolute star.

Angus and ANB for disposal.

Hibberd for having mastered the art of appearing to almost tackle/spoil/smother etc

Brown for looking absolutely ridiculous in a MFC jumper

ANB. Yes I thought trade was best option.  Thought he was a good player but lacked the defensive side.  He’s now got it.  He’s been Reborn.

TMCD. I was on the trade out option last year.  Great recovery

Spargo. Didn’t think he added much and struggled to kick 35 metres. Definitely improved and his tackling and footy brain has been good.

but also backed in …

Jack Viney.  He’s a true heart and soul player. Intense.  Physical.  Tackling is A grade every week. Can’t ever believe others wanted him traded.

Angus Brayshaw. He’s a smart footballer. Skilled on both left and right. Good endurance and pace.  Loves the footy club.  Trade to Freo? Ridiculous.

James Harmes. Huge heart. Huge smile.  Yes he had butchered the footy and done some frustrating things but he’s one of the blokes you want in the trenches. Gives 100%. Can kick a goal.  Cracks in.  His kick to Fritsch was probably one of the bravest and most important of the year!!

Tom Sparrow.  Thought he’d be a ripper right from the start. Reminds me of Todd Viney. He’s kicking is fantastic. Can cover distance and accuracy as we saw in the GF.  Versatile half forward or on baller. Tough and passionate.

I don't need to say sorry to any of these, most of the criticisms of all of these players were all myths, and prejudice and bias.

Like most ANB. I thought his kicking was horrible. Massive improvement so I tip my lid to you.

ANB & Spargo (like Melksham last year) certainly benefited from the coach backing them to the hilt & giving them every opportunity and good luck to them.

Spargo has had a golden run.  If Chandler or Bedford had got the same opportunities I reckon they could have had Premiership medallions as well.

Soz Clarrie!

Sorry for saying you were that kid at school who’d happily sit back and watch the whole class get punished for doing whatever that naughty thing was and not ‘fessing up.
I mean, I still think you’re that kid. But I should’ve  kept that thought to myself. 😆

I’ve been very kind to our current players but I did say that Sparrow had the impact of a sparrow fart in an earlier game and that Jackson was a bit vanilla.  Apologies for that.

You must be have  only scooped the vanilla out of the  Neapolitan ice cream tub, everyone else could see Jackson  is a tub of Neapolitan ice cream.

As he should have. His only season that was well below par was 2019, when the entire team was struggling. He actually showed glimpses in 2020 but kept getting dropped after one or two ordinary games. I think 2021 gives the best indication of how good he really is. He was excellent.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
