Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I think our offer was fair (future 2nd), but with GWS seemingly just not interested in doing any type of deal, which is fine as he is contracted, the trade was never going to happen.

It's disappointing because it just wastes the time of clubs that could be doing other stuff at the end of the trade period. Hill seemed fine about it so all of the 'he won't go back to GWS' talk from Young just makes Young look like a liar in future negotiations. Imagine a situation where a player is genuinely disillusioned with a club and can't stand the idea of going back .... if it's a client of Young then a club is may well keep him anyway because they won't believe the player's issues are genuine.

I'd be very disappointed if I was a client of his right now. Especially the way it looked like Hill was used as a pawn for getting Lobb back to GWS.

Does anyone know if Young manages any of our guys?

Don't think so.  He is WA based and so are most of his players, with quite a contingent from Freo so it is interesting that he called out Bell for breaking the 'cone of silence' re Lobb to GWS trade possibilities.  Bell thought his comments amusing.  Sounds like there may be history there.

Don't blame him wanting to leave they have very little, if any, "team" spirit

Never going to be any good whilst they still play for themselves and not as a collective

I watched the Geelong game and was shocked how poor they were - Taranto in particular had terrible body language and looked incredibly lazy and disinterested

My first reaction was who will GWS get as a replacement.

We have a number of small forwards waiting in the wings:  Bedford, Chandler, Laurie.  All three have been medisub or emergencies but still on the cusp as depth.   Will one be willing to go to GWS to get more games?  I can't see them waiting in the wings for years and I can't see us giving up Pickett or Spargo.

Hard to know if they'd be more keen on picks, players, specific positions etc, as I don't think they even know for sure who'll be coaching them next year.

GWS don't have small forwards and when Hill wanted to move last year they scrambled to get a replacement and looked at Breust who wouldn't go.  They will be equally desperate to replace Hill this time round.  It is unlikely they will be able to swap a small fwd for a small fwd so are more likely to take a pick for Hill and trade one in from another club.

Just a thought as we have a few 'surplus' small forwards who are all showing some talent and have had very good development.

Makes sense mate. More just thinking out loud about how GWS will make decisions while they haven't even decided for sure who's gonna coach them. They're probably just lucky they're so irrelevant otherwise the noise would be huge IMO.

I don't think we have a huge chance of getting Hill, but definitely think he's 100% gone from GWS new coach or not, because gut feel is a new coach coming in would want to 'clear the decks' and build that culture properly from players who are committed and genuinely want to be there.

Oh, I wasn't at all suggesting we go after him or doing a player swap.  On the contrary.

Whenever he goes I reckon trading him out and replacing him will be separate deals involving separate clubs.

Bobby Hill looks a player to me and fits our needs. I would be keen but he’s probably worth a late first round or second round pick.

needs? really?

He's also a sook that picks and chooses when to put in. If you won't run you won't get picked in a Goodwin team

I haven't watched much of Bobby Hill to be totally honest, is he similar to Brad in terms of his endurance running?

No more of a willow the wisp type. But best is AFL standard no doubt.

We have Spargo, Laurie, Chandler competing for one spot.

Hill has shown flashes of brilliance but another small probably not on our list of needs.

Laurie can play in other tiles I think on ball firward pocket and wing and may even do  a Bowser and end up a small back man to stop opposition smalls getting goals.

Can't help myself.  He was there as an employee of GW$, so is therefore not disinterested even if uninterested.

i would definitely still take him wouldn't have to give up much and could definitely find a spot in our best 22

Maybe Hill will no longer want to leave GWS, with a new senior coach coming on board.

He's a talent and there's no reason we couldn't coach him up to play in our system, he does chase, he just doesn't do it consistently in a team oriented way.

But I just can't see us giving up picks and cash for a fringe talent who has a market.

In our circumstances we are short on picks and short on cash. So anyone coming in has to either be a combination of a clear need, a premium player or a bargain. It's unlikely Hill satisfies any of those criteria.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. By the time they worked out it was game on, their opponents from Box Hill had accumulated five goals and, if the game wasn’t over, it might as well have been. For a se

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
