Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Im one of few who dont believe the hype regarding Jackson. I think he is very good but I think Biclavs is very good as well.

My major interest in this process is watchingto see that we dont get shafted.

An added bonus would be that it means Gus is more likely to sign on again. I actually think Gus is closer to a (once in a ) generational player than Dogga. Cometh the hour, cometh the man. Im backing him in for a Norm Smith.

The Buddy contract comparison is a trifle misleading as well

He'd almost certainly command a much bigger salary these days.  The new upcoming salary cap will be a lot more compared to 10 years ago.  Probably a $15Million contract rather than $10Million back in 2013 (in my view)

Also, Buddy was a free agent so there was no trade ... if it was a trade then Hawthorn would have rightfully demanded a lot more than the paltry compensation that they received (pick 19?)

Back then (if they were able to trade Franklin) they might have been asking for 2 top 10 picks and a good player in a trade (as a minimum)

People better get used to the idea that we won't be getting any of the Freo young guns like Brayshaw, Young or Serong. For starters, they have to want to leave. And we won't be asking for 2nd tier players like Acres.

As for Jacko the player/person, I don't have any emotional investment in him. I think his deeds to date doesn't match the hype or supposed contract. But where I am disappointed in Jackson is that the club allowed him to do part of his preseason in Perth. Regardless of money, you'd think he'd show some gratitude and repay the club with another 2 years. Money rules I guess.

Jackson's is currently 20 years old. Blicavs didn't even debut until he was 22 years old.

He's the only player in the top 39 players for hitouts in 2022 who is younger than 22. The only player who has more hitouts who is younger than 23 is Bailey Williams, who has pretty much rucked solo whilst Naitanui has been out.

A little harsh considering he is a premiership player. If he leaves I wish him all the best and hope that he has a great career. I also hope that we get the maximum out of any deal possible. Our recent performance with trading proves that the club is well versed at getting a deal done that is fair. A huge deal for Luke only assists us in maximising our trade capital.

I met Luke the day after the GF win and found him to be a really nice bloke. He is entitled to leave if he wishes…that is the system…just as Jake Lever and Steven May were entitled to leave their former clubs

Except for when he plays us, then I hope he has career worst performances...and is a total liability.

It appears that Sumich wasn't far off the mark when he blurted out what Freo was offering. If the figure is close or correct Jackson would be negligent to not take it just as Scully could not refuse the offer put before him. It sets players up for life and is offered at a stage of their careers where they aren't worth that much. Scully had his career cut short but made enough to set him up for life and in retrospect made the correct decision even if we didn't like how he went about it.

I would be disappointed if MFC even tried to match it. Clarry and Trac earned their contracts as did Max and Viney. If the usual AFL protocol is followed, everybody knows, but there will be nothing official until after we play our last game for the season. Unlike the NRL where players openly declare their destination a year out.

One consideration with such a massive offer Jacko could slip to the pre-season draft just as Jack Martin did pricing clubs out of the market with his financial demands.

Yes, we are light on for rucks and without TMac we see how valuable a CHF is. Note Port used Dixon and Findlayson last 6 weeks in the ruck and both played a role around the ground and got lots of clearances from the middle when they didn't win the tap, playing the role we would like Jackson to play.

I don't think Weid will leave because he is the obvious choice to play a ruck role even if it is the role Daw played this year. What would be a bold move is if the club knows Jackson is going that they drop him as he isn't part of the future!!

If that figure is anywhere near true, you go home, play at the club your family is connected with, who are your  supported club and they are currently top 4, it imo is a no brainer for Jacko and he is gone.

I don’t think we would get anywhere near that offer and nor should we.

Do the best deal Dees and don’t get shafted.

Freo offer a ridiculous salary and should pay a commensurate trade.

We should get a very good player, a top pick and maybe Meek as steak knives.

Very common sense view.

Ryan Burton didn’t want to go to Port Adelaide, but it was made to happen to facilitate the Wingard trade. If Freo want him, they have to trade and to trade they need to give something we want

$10.3m for 8 years is an average of $1.250m per year!  About 10% of their sal cap.   A lot of money to pay for potential!  At least when Buddy, Grundy, Kelly, Petracca, Oliver etc got 7+ year contracts they were in their mid 20's, mature bodied AFL players and with runs on the board whereas Jackson is all potential albeit with a great start and some major medals.

History of young players taking mega trade deals when only 20/21 hasn't served them well.

  • HWSNBN renegotiated his contract to take a lower amount when the young guns need to be paid.    Never came close to reaching his potential on field.  Later injured, recovered then traded to Hawthorn for a very late pick.  Retired early for personal reasons.
  • Tom Boyd.  Was ostracised by Bulldog team mates.  Suffered from depression.  Retired from AFL after just a few years with a premiership medal and almost a NSM but disillusioned.

I truly hope Jackson has the maturity to deal with the attitude of Freo fans when he has a few poor games and of team mates if they have to take a lower contact to accommodate him.

Hopefully in 3 years time we have an even better ruck prospect like Kalani White.

I understand how the system works. But for every player that walks away from their club for a big pay cheque, there's hundreds that stay loyal, especially when the club is challenging for a flag. From a playing standpoint, I'd feel more aggrieved if Gus leaves, but at the same time I'd wish him all the best, because of the service he has given us.

And I didn't realise that the Crows supporters were wishing Lever all the best when they boo him every game.

If we’re going to lose Jackson then we can make it work for us. As good as he is for a young ruckman, I don’t think he’ll ever reach the highs of the million dollar a year top 10 in the league type player he’s being talked up as. We’re cashing in whilst his value is highest IMO. He’s being hyped on potential, not output. Another two years would mean less potential growth, but even if his output is very high his value won’t increase past what it’s being spoken about as now.

If we’re able to pry a young gun like Serong or Young plus a top 10ish pick, then I’d say we’re winning the trade and improving our list. Alternately if we can pinch get pick 1-2 from West Coast I’d take it and run. We lost Hogan and won out from that, hopefully we can do the same here.

C’mon Lord T. You are kidding yourself

LJ is Top Shelf and we must get a Top Shelf deal, not scraps.
LJ hasn’t clocked up 50 games yet.
i would be doing everything to keep him UNTIL that Contract is Signed.

It is laughable how supporters boo their club's ex players, but cheer those who now play for them.

I have only ever booed one Ex Demon and I don't even mention his name.

If we did give LJ a big deal around 800K long term we would end up on Collingwoods situation in 2 years. You can’t have Trac, Clarry, Viney, Salem, May, Lever, Gus all on coin and not expect to push someone out.

if we lose LJ, it’s a loss for sure. But we should be able to keep our core together and even trade in a key fwd for example

Im glass half full today. Freo need to pay massive overs to attract talent

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
