Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

It reminds me a lot of our pick 2 for Salem, Tyson trade.

When we did that we believed pick 2 was fairly equivalent to pick 9 and apart from missing Bontempelli that’s shown to be correct.

I'm not sure why pick 20 never gets mentioned in this trade.

We gave 2, 20 and 72.

We got Tyson,  9 and 53.

Pick 20 was ontraded to Brisbane who picked Darcy Gardiner.

I remember a poster on here advised that we invited Lewis Taylor to the first round draft night incase we missed Salem. So it's likely we would have drafted him with pick 20 if we still had it.

From Fox footy:

"Luke Jackson looms as the messiest trade of the off-season, with both West Coast and Fremantle still in play for the young ruck’s services. The Dockers are the overwhelming favourites to snare Jackson, but they can’t come close to meeting Melbourne’s demand of two first round picks as a deal. Freo’s first draft pick is at 13 and then there’s currently nothing until 72. Griffin Logue’s trade to North Melbourne will help the Dockers bolster their draft hand if they do cough up pick 13 and a 2023 first round pick for Jackson. West Coast meantime are open to splitting their pick two – which would become a three should Will Ashcroft go early as predicted. But list boss Rohan O’Brien has confirmed the Eagles won’t be offering that as a trade for Jackson. “There’s an air of confidence that we think we can convince him and hopefully get the deal done,” O’Brien said on SEN. “Opportunities like Luke don’t come along very often.”

I like that Eagles are keeping the heat on Freo.

People are often seduced by the number 1 draft pick. I’d much prefer 2 first rounders over the number 1 pick. Once one of the picks was within 7.

the list of underperforming number 1 picks is long. Two picks increases the odds of grabbing at least one gun.

i personally would not agree to the above trade

We hold the strong hand with Jackson

Either Freo or the Eagles need to come up with the goods or it ends in a stalemate

We have to be prepared to let him go through to the pre-season draft knowing that is an unlikely outcome. Accepting unders is out of the question as you never want to sell yourself short

North would gazump the clubs from the West in the pre-season draft (if it got that far) as they'd be getting LJ for nothing ... apart from paying him an agreed upon salary (organised prior to the draft)

There is a chance that if a deal can't be done LJ re-signs with us and then the Grundy deal falls flat (cop that Collingwood)

However, Freo or maybe the Eagles will find a way to satisfy us you'd imagine.  If they want him badly enough, they'll find a way

Apparenly he'll nominate Fremantle tomorrow. I can't see anyway we let him walk when there is a first round pick on offer. We really do not have a strong hand here at all. We lose him for unders, or we lose him for nothing. That's what happens when players get out of contract.

Well I disagree because we can still win out if a deal can't be struck with Freo (or the Eagles)

He either stays with us because of a stalemate or heads to North in the pre-season draft (and he won't do that as apparently he wants to go back to WA)

We need to hold our nerve and play hard ball

Also, it needs to be factored in that LJ going to Freo strengthens a rival.  Why would we want to do that? (for meagre offerings)

West Coast less so (as a rival) but we've seen them rise up the ladder quickly before

He's out of contract but he is still our player to trade.  He's not a free agent so he doesn't get to call the shots

We control his destiny

Years ago I would have expected the club to possibly cave in but not now.  We've already come out and said that Freo aren't offering what we want

That will continue until we do get what we want (and what we want will be a reasonable outcome all round)

It also needs to be remembered that if a deal isn't struck with Freo or West Coast, LJ won't be going home to play footy

North stand in the way in the pre-season draft and they've probably got a pitch prepared for LJ if they get a chance to snare him

Stand out of footy with no dollars?  I don't think so especially when he can command $700k plus per year.  Who would pass on that sort of money?

After North loses a kid from interstate they are not going to take another ‘wantaway’ player in the PSD. The only leverage we have is with WCE being in the race for him. But that comes with the not insignificant chance of us getting nothing for him.

We are going to settle for less than market because Freo just won’t be able to get near market for him.

If JHF gets to Port their pick #8 and future first is gone and with them go the idea that Freo can trade for that pick #8 to use in the Jackson package.

They of course can try and trade with other clubs to get that top 10 pick.

Otherwise they will have little choice than to include a very good, proven, elite player in lieu of a top 10 pick.  They have a few of them - just need to convince one of the Vic lads to come home!  And then include this year's pick #14 +/- swaps/sweetener depending on the player.

Alternatively, let Jackson go to their arch enemy.

Freo have a few irons in the fire with Nth with Logue, so I’m thinking the JHF trade will unlock the top 10 pick we are after and allow Freo to swap 1st rd picks with Nth

Who would have thought this would be a messy trade? Forget Jackson not being the the best fit for them in the first place, they have little draft capital to offer, all decent trade bait signed up or going elsewhere and potential cap issues on the horizon.

Should have been a sinch 😛

Surely if it comes down to Jackson not being able to get to WA he won't go to North. He'd re-sign with Melbourne (except in a fit of pique).  Not that I think he will end up in that siutation.

the longer no one can give us a close idea of how this deal might get done i start to think we will accept unders for this and it will really really annoy me, hope im wrong. Talk this morning said Freo will want a second rounder back. Right now, id take a top 10 pick and next years first, that will be best case scenario. There is no way in hell we should give anything other than Jackson, however  dont think we are getting best case scenario.

I'm feeling the same way that the best offer may be the first one. Not interested in giving a second rounder back but possibly a 3rd of 4th? Not sure.

We'll get what we want (or need) as the Eagles are still in the equation (so far) to up the ante

If not, we still hold a strong hand

I was thinking that too.

However If he's that home sick and absolutely must return to WA (which he must be if he's quitting the club he won a flag at) and a trade can't be arranged then I think there's more chance he sits out a year of footy then comes back to the MFC.

I'm sure a trade will be arranged though even if we have to accept unders. He's out of contract so we don't hold the whip hand. If he was under contract then we could ask for overs.

The Eagles are just sitting and watching at the moment but may come hard.

If they split pick 2 for picks 5 & 7 from the Suns then suddenly they are right in the hunt.

I understand and its a good deal, but he isnt going to the Eagles. he is going to Freo.. and he will get there..

If I were West Coast, going for Bowes makes a bit more sense than going for Hunt. Would be great if they entered the battle for him but it does seem like Geelong are favourites at this stage.

Game plan related?  Hunt has pace, from what others are saying that is Bowes achilles heel.

We cld push the Freo low ball onto the Pies Grundy deal.

Ie. ' we wont accept Freo deal and therefore look to sign Jackson up for another year or two, thereby forgoing the Grundy deal, unless Pies accept a late 2 rounder rather than 1st (incl cap support), to which we would accept the Freo deal.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
