Any dealings with Freo will take a very very long time, I'd say they have to have all their exiting players done first before they truly know what they can offer us. Like everyone I expect it to be 2 firsts from them and maybe a player - Henry would be more than handy, but that's only if we are getting Grundy, if not Meek can be the one who comes. 

If we deal with West Coast, I hope we're going straight for pick 2 - not letting them split it first. We could try and organise a 3 team swap with Adealide and Gold Coast, although I'm aware that Gold Coast might bundle up picks to move up the draft (Brissy need points and GC have heaps). But I'd be thinking we get pick 2 and trade it to Adelaide for pick 5 (2022) and a future 1st plus maybe Flanders from GC. GC get pick 2 and lose Rankine and Flanders, Rankine to Adelaide while we get two 1st and a young decent player (later picks would be involved too).

People do seem to be under rating his ability based upon the last section of the year, but he wasn't alone in trying to be consistent in his standard of play.

When the dust settles, I wonder if the club will clarify or shed some light on just how big a factor players carrying injuries was this year. If that was the major driver of the fade outs, and we fill the list deficiencies (key forward etc), then you could easily put together a bullish case for next year (assuming they aren’t ongoing injuries)  & assuming Simon + the FD do actually learn from the “learnings” and enhance our “method”

Don't you love that word" Learnings" I haven't heard it from the FD in recent times.

Listening the Brown on the couch months ago, he said each year they got sorer and more banged up over their 3 peat. But he end they weren't in a good shape by the fourth GF.  Forward 20 years, the game is harder in terms of impact and faster, therefore the shorter recovery has a bigger impact.  Plus as we know this year we had more injuries which meant players took on more load in games than last year.   Look at the Cats this year, they managed their players over the year deliberately to ensure they stay fit for the finals.   

Our conditioning team will assess based upon the data.  Whether Burgo's idea of playing though injury was the best approaching this year, I guess will be looked at.

After R10, the talk was Gawn/Jackson was one of the best 2 man ruck combo’s the game has ever seen. 

He has played some dominant games this year, some games were he was a perfect compliment for Gawn, and sure a couple of shockers in the past 1-2 months.

Jacko hurt his knee R15, and word is he has largely been playing injured since. Plus it’s not overly surprising that his attitude may slip given the trade situation. 

He will be a star of the comp, there is very little doubt about this. No point talking him down, just because he has decided to leave. Reminds me of some mates venting about their ex-wives after they left. 
 

We all have our own opinions and that is fair enough. I hope he becomes a star but presently every one is talking up his potential and that is all it is at present.

He is 20 turning 21, won a rising star, turned a grand final, and has still played some dominant games this year, despite not meeting some people’s expectations.

Some of the games greatest rucks weren’t even getting a game at 20 y.o (including Max). 

Most of his weakest performances have been since R15 this year, when he has been injured.

This ties in with the selection committee just as much as the fitness team, maybe more. I reckon the combined stubbornness has cost us this year.

We’ve tried to do the exact same thing twice and struggled, if we go with the same approach in 2023 it will not end well.

Agree.. I find it somewhat amusing that his value as expressed by many posters goes up or down by reference to his weekly form.

Just a couple of points.

1. Jackson is going home to be a part of his family and build his life in Perth. His family are into Fremantle. As a consequence, there is very little chance of him going to West Coast. The only reason West Coast get involved and we keep that negotiation open is to try and secure a better deal. Those two teams hate each other.

2. The Grundy negotiations involve two factors, how much salary Collingwood will pay and draft picks. So if they pay $400,000 per year of his ongoing salary and we take up $600,000, then we would have to offer up a pick around 10. If it's only $200,000  Collingwood pay and we carry the rest (god forbid) then theres a point where they should be giving us a pick.

Whats the equilibrium???? For me I don't really want to pay much more than about $500,000 a year for Grundy and he's worth about pick 25-30. 

I don't think that will satisfy Collingwood and I hope we don't get shafted. I don't like the deal. Leave them in a world of pain.
