Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Farewell Luke Jackson

Have rewatched Treacy highlights and I think he could be good for us. 19 year old Vic kid with good hands, a nice kick and is really hard at the contest. We don’t have that.

If we are trading Jacko, then he could be part of the deal. Add Meek and get a pick that could get us Cadman or another key forward and that may be as good as we can get.

That would give us 3 young key forwards with BBB and Tom in probably their last year and likely Weid traded and M. Brown retired.

It will be an interesting off season for us, hopefully as current Premier.

Unless Jackson signs a 5 years plus contract with us - which won't happen - I want him to go now. A two year deal doesn't cut it as Max will be close to retirement by then and he needs an heir to mentor and pass on the baton. If Jackson signs for two, then they both leave at about the same time, although a slowing down Max may still have a year or two.

We will get good draft picks/players and other clubs may become involved to make it equitable if Freo can't satisfy. We can then go again with another young ruck.

I am not convinced he will be a generational talent, albeit he is unique. He is and will be a very good player, however his ceiling may not be as high as bandied about contract figures would indicate. He does most things really well, but his marking, both contested and uncontested is iffy - no soft hands and he is not a clunker, nearly always two grabs which I don't think ever really changes in a player, unless it's a confidence thing and he doesn't lack that. It's more technique and I think his is set. He is also on the short side for a ruck, although he has a leap and his tap work is good.  To date there is no solid evidence of any forward craft, although he only spends limited time there. He is two players in one with his mobility as a midfielder and his rucking assets, however he is not a top midfielder and he is a handy ruck. Jack of all trades but master of none? Is there scope for significant improvement in these two areas? I'm not really sure there is, as young as he is, and that's because he is good at them now.

As a midfielder we wouldn't miss him as there are others, but as a back up ruck and heir apparent to Max we would, particularly with all the ruck  tutoring he and Greg Stafford would have put in to him. However there are other developing rucks and tall forwards out there and I'm sure we are looking - Sean Darcy anyone?

Having said all this, in an ideal world I would want him to play out his career at the Dees as he is there and he is ours - at the moment. However with the spectre of a return to Perth looming at every turn and not always at contract time, his value may well be higher now based on his potential, rather than in two years which will be more based on performance.

Watching Sean Darcy last night, I just can’t see how he can be happy with Jackson coming in unless Jackson plays predominantly up forward to replace Lobb. At 24, he’s a damn good ruckman with years left in the game.
I would try to coax him out. He could share the load with and learn from Max for a year or two and then become the main ruckman while Max spends more and more time forward (and learns to kick goals).

'Officialy off' sounds like a twist of what Richardson said (paraphrasing):  "there will be no announcement until after our season is over.  The club said to Jackson to forget about the contract and just give us the best football you have over the next few months."

I took it as a way for the club to take pressure off him.

More click bait.

Thought Jackson murdered Darcy early on last night.

Darcy had a very poor game.

He's a very good player though, so I wonder if the Jackson stuff got to him.

How good was it seeing Melksham pull that jumper down last night? Arrogant supporters acting like it’s a done deal.

If he has to go I hope he goes to the Eagles now, and plays a blinder in every Derby.

Trac did it after the game also, absolute classic.

Why not? We're losing one of ours.

We should be pushing for one of the Vic boys. I agree it won't be Brayshaw or Young, but I'd be pushing for Serong.

That's just not how trades work. First we'd have to convince Serong to want to move. Then we'd have to get Freo to agree to release him from his contract. You rarely see player for player trades anymore, especially highly rated ones. It's players for draft picks and then you try and flip that. West Coast didn't give up Shuey, Gaff or Darling for Kelly, Geelong didn't give up Menegola, Guthrie or Duncan for Cameron. It just doesn't happen.

does that mean it's virtualy official?

or does the quotes mean they are quoting someone?  it's not what richardson actually said so is not quoting him.

That was my thoughts too. He couldn’t have liked what he saw on the back page of the paper either. Telling fans not to boo his opponent. And hitting Trac behind play just shows he’s frustrated.

Plus Darcy looks a little overweight to me. He would thrive under a mentor like Gawn. I would seriously push for it. Freo can’t expect to get Jackson for nothing.

Would like for him to extend for two years, then reevaluate.

If he does choose to go, straight swap for Hayden Young would get the deal done by 9:15 on day one.

If he goes, it’s likely Freo will look at offering a 1st rounder 2022 and a 1st rounder 2023.  Let’s ponder if that’s enough.

There’s no need to even ponder that. It’s not enough… end of story. I’m quite sure they’ll try that but why would we accept it? there offer is say pick 14 and pick 15 or worse . maybe if north get a priority or a cpl father sons it’s more like 16 and 17 or worse. If Cerra was worth 6… jackson is worth more.

We should simply tell Freo to GTFO if they won’t reasonably compensate us. Tell Luke that if Eagles offer up pick 2, then he should be prepared to go there.

Talk of getting Darcy out with 2 years to go on his contract is farcical. As a pure quality player Fremantle have nothing that fits our needs that is plausible. Young would fit need but is on an extended deal, Serong does not fit our need, Brayshaw is their next skipper and on an extended deal. We will be looking for first round picks  (assuming nothing inside top 5) that we can convert into a high quality recruit/draftee and I suggest a couple of moneyball type players as steak knives that may have upside in our system. As some have mentioned Meek or Treacy may fit the bill. Sam Sturt could also be an interesting one. Looked great early but has had a bad run with injury and preseason interruptions. Vic boy 190cm high forward and I think out of contract.

Have to agree with most of that, I don't want him gone but I'd rather rip off the bandaid now than wait for him to Develop completely, then lose him. He is currently a handy player now, but not a proven great player and when he is, if he does become one, he'll be going, that's on the basis that he continues to improve, which is not guaranteed.

When he was over in Perth and was being interviewed by a couple of young guys over there he looked really happy, that may be because he was going to be playing in a GF or it could very well be because he just loves being home.

I think we should look ahead and I wouldn't mind looking at Grundy, he is on a huge million $ contract but I'm sure that the Pies would be happy to offload him and pay some of his contract, say $300k and we pay the balance. We get a proven ruck/clearance player which is what Dogga is, to be honest he's not a great ruck, he's more of a big midfielder that can ruck a bit.

I don't particularly like Grundy but if he can help big Max and the team win a flag, I'll learn to love him,

Can’t recall seeing our players as p155ed off as last night in recent times.

Might have been a bit of healthy agitation re the poaching attempts. Certainly a bit more for LJ to think about this morning, around the risks of leaving a potential dynasty team.

I think this is more poor form from Journalists to be honest, it sounds like the club actually suggested to LJ we figure it out post season to focus on trying to win another flag.

The headline "Jackson puts off talks" seems to me to be a little bit of an embarrassing attempt to make a story out of nothing.

I have no idea if Jackson will stay or go, i suspect he will probably go, but this whole saga has really exposed the poor standards of reporting by certain members of the media around this. i reckon they know about as much as we do.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
