Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I think by memory some past Demon player didn't want to sign on like Jackson . This player was dropped from the seniors. The player might have been Rivers ( the one who went to Geelong) or it could be the midfielder who went to Carlton. Does anyone else know of this occurrence ? Yes I am suggesting Jackson gets dropped at the end of the home and away matches if he hasn't signed. Brayshaw should be played up forward thou he is a good backman . I also thought we were going to turn Rivers into a midfielder like Hodge ex Hawks.

In recent memory with both Rivers and Frawley being free agents, Roos played both of them on the forward line for large parts of the season while he developed 2 new key backmen. I believe it was Carlton who dropped Henderson with a month to go when he announced he was leaving before the season ended.

Chris Johnson who went to Carlton was openly told to f off during training by coach Dean Bailey, once it was known that Johnson intended to leave. Pretty immature by Bailey.

It was nice to see  CJ in the rooms after the GF.

Listen, l know Luke is a great pospect etc etc.

l also look at the fact that players who can't take one grab marks generally go through their careers without improving a hell of a lot. Undersized rucks that ruck most of the day and rely on their leap also struggle to compete week in week out.

So l can see some positive in getting some draft picks in while clubs want ton trade on potential but obviously we have to find support for max quickly which is the challenge

We were a rubbish team with nothing to lose back then.

We are in flag contention this year and Jackson, while not in great form currently, is an important part of our side and structure. Not to mention he gives Gawn a much needed chop out. I don’t want Gawn dead in September.

Dropping him for petulant reasons could cost us a flag. So no thanks.

There's media whispers that Freo's clearing the decks to make room for Jacko is upsetting some of the natives.  Longmuir thinks Lobb will be at Freo next year (though I wouldn't expect him to admit that he's a trade target, but he did seem genuine when he said it), so I do wonder if Darcy might be in the mix being a Vic boy.

I'd trade Jacko for Darcy if it came to that.

What if they plan on playing him as a mid?

I’m not sure I see the upside here. Yes he is tall, but other than that, what does he offer? He is avg mark, slow gallop, and lacks fitness. He’d be awfully expensive and you’d find plenty of similarly capable mids in  the draft every year.

Right now he has upside, but he lacks a footy identity. Is he a ruck, forward, mid? Nobody really knows. Freo are taking a massive risk.

Jeez, are people are trying to play down his footy to make his departure easier to take?

Some of these posts are ridiculous.

Clearly the most explosive and promising young talent in the ruck position since Nic Nat. I don't believe some of the money that's being spoken about but Dockers would be silly not to at least have a go.

I think he will end up MUCH better than Natanui. (You probably do too)

He will be a genuine loss. It will be a couple more years before we see his best imo.

That maybe true. But my response was to the talk about him being a midfielder - I just don’t see it.

As for ruck, it’ll be years before we know how good he really becomes.

If he's made his decision to leave and the club knows about it, then the best thing is to tell Luke to give us 8 of his best weeks and hope he does it.

That is all.

Exactly. I would feel much better, as I am sure he will, if he leaves having won 2 flags.

Some of the commentary on this thread is ridiculous. Half way through the third quarter in the GF, WTF is Hayden Young going to do? Nothing. Jackson was instrumental in the most powerful 15 minutes of football perhaps ever witnessed. That's why Freo are going all out.

Anyone stupid enough now to be going, oh we should have drafted Hayden Young (who's basically only cemented his place in Freo's side this year), is kidding themselves. Jackson was the right selection every day of the week.

Just because you can't handle the thought of him leaving doesn't mean you have to post nonsense.

Is what Freo are planning on paying him ridiculous? Of course it is, but Luke will become a very good player and is no more inconsistent than most of our team (aside from probably Oliver) given the position he plays.

It's time we got a little perspective in this thread.

Big decision and dilemma for the kid.

Id suspect he would want to stay at least another couple of years and he is young enough to get a big offer contact in the future. But on the other hand if he stagnates over the next 2 years the offer and money on the table now might no be there in two years time. Tough decision

This is where I'd expect a player of his calibre to be backing himself in and knowing that if he signs a 2 year deal with us that he will perform to a level that will get him that massive offer to mull over next time round.

If he can't then I'd hate to think what his mentality is like when he's on that massive contract and expected to live up to it.

To be honest I don't mind him playing even if the club knew he was going home.

The bigger issue is that he's actually out of form and not really having that much of an impact.  The club won't drop him due to form but the entire second half he only had 2 disposals. Disposals isn't everything with him but he was one of many who failed to stand up when we needed him too.

If Luke:

- gives his all for the rest of the season and contributes to another flag

- ensures we get looked after in any trade with Freo

he will leave with my blessing and best wishes. I'll be disappointed he's gone but such is life. We can then keep ourselves occupied speculating on who we use the picks on we'll receive

I dont know how anyone would really know how or if the player made any impact on the trade details.

Did anyone notice JV ignore him, as he was running into an open goal?

Viney had plenty of time to pop it over the top

Big loss, but just go already

I was dirty on Vines. That was a clear handball over the top which would have allowed Jacko to run in and steady up for a goal.

They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
