Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Chance that it’s bigger than Petraccas contract?!

Two weeks ago I was told by a Player Agent based in Perth, albeit not Luke’s Agent, that the offer is 8 years at 10.3 million from Freo.

If we’re going to lose Jackson then we can make it work for us. As good as he is for a young ruckman, I don’t think he’ll ever reach the highs of the million dollar a year top 10 in the league type player he’s being talked up as. We’re cashing in whilst his value is highest IMO. He’s being hyped on potential, not output. Another two years would mean less potential growth, but even if his output is very high his value won’t increase past what it’s being spoken about as now.

If we’re able to pry a young gun like Serong or Young plus a top 10ish pick, then I’d say we’re winning the trade and improving our list. Alternately if we can pinch get pick 1-2 from West Coast I’d take it and run. We lost Hogan and won out from that, hopefully we can do the same here.

Why? Dogga was pick 3 and now has 3 years of development

Would love to know what the Footy Dept thinks of Van Rooyen and his prospects; the tall forward situation is the biggest need we have into 2023 and beyond.

If we don’t have the long term solution we can always do what we did with Brown and what GC did with Casboult and fill the need short term to buy time and not commit to the NQR option (ie McStay).

I believe the Footy Dept are extremely happy & positive about Van Rooyen, in fact they believe he will be a very special player, however, don’t expect to see him this year.

Joel Smith is currently training as a Forward, and there is growing interest in retaining Tomlinson and playing Petty as a forward.

That would be one of if not the biggest deal given in AFL history. Hence what Freo have to give up should fall in line as the biggest exchange of picks ever.

That may be the best option. Petty may be the best tall forward bridge to a longer term option.

If the club is fair dinkum, they need to get him to sign NOW  and if he doesn't then know he is gone and say thanks very much and dont play him anywhere. Time to commit young man. That would be what I would do. Time for pandering and posturing is almost extinguished!

Alright alright settle down.... Maybe I overeacted a tad but..... I dont like losing PREMIERSHIP players for Money....

Do you mean Petty forward and retain Tomlinson for this week or a medium/long term plan for next year onwards?

I don’t think Lever will get up for this week, however, if he does, don’t be surprised if Tomlinson plays CHB and Petty goes forward. If Lever doesn’t get up, then I don’t think Petty will go forward.

All I’m saying is that there is discussion taking place about retaining Tomlinson to allow Petty to go forward as long as the pillars of May & Lever are there.

Thanks once again mate. Hitting the nail once again it seems with this one.

The Joel Smith forward link is certainly an interesting one that's for sure.

Petty has a great ability to read the ball in flight and his mits are solid. No reason he couldn’t become a forward. The way we are currently putting the ball inside 50 would actually suit him.

I’ve always liked the idea of J.Smith forward. I was at that Brisbane game at Casey where he kicked 6, ironically standing with his father. He was great and showed a lot of promise. He would have work to do, but great to know it’s being reconsidered

Makes sense.  The impact (upside/downside) of playing Tomo (as long as it's in form Tomo) vs Petty as the 3rd tall defender will probably be marginal IMV.

However, the potential upside of playing Petty forward (if he slots into that role quicky enough)?  Reckon many will be coming out after a few matches and all saying "why did we/SG not try this earlier!"

My gut feel is both Petty and Smith are both better forwards (natural playing instincts/ability) than they are defenders.  More so Petty.  That's not to say Petty is an ordinary defender... pretty solid.

Great info thanks!

I seem to recall Petty being a bit of a shining light as a forward in 2019 when everything was going pear shaped? His goal kicking let him down a bit but he showed a lot that year.

EDIT: Had a look at the stats Harry played 10 games, mainly as a forward in 2019. He took 43 marks and kicked 6 goals 5 behinds. Not great, not bad, he’s a much better more confident player now, it would be interesting.

It's a good point you make ... the trade needs to in some ways match the dollars in the new contract elsewhere (if it all goes that way)

And if it's a huge amount then the value in dollar terms should equal a similar value in picks and players

An example at the lower end of the scale might be something like a 3rd or 4th round pick for a player being offered a 2 year deal elsewhere on below average money

It's mere speculation but what would fair compensation be for a former no.3 pick who might be getting offered $10.5Million over 8 years elsewhere?

Something that Freo don’t have. You are completely correct and I don’t understand why the media aren’t discussing this more. He is going for a packet of crisps, Freo have nothing, as they tied all their players up, so how does this deal get done. Jackson doesn’t see. Like the type of kid who will screw the club, if he chooses to leave. Freo are going to have to give up a player and two first rounders you’d think. They may get a future second back from us.

I'm predicting a stalemate unless they can somehow come up with the currency

And it is looking like LJ might be on the move especially if the money offer is close to the truth ... it's a life changing amount if true (and everyone has a price)

But we can play hardball and just on that,  the 2 clubs might have an in principle deal on the table ... if Freo can come up with what we want, they get him

And our ambit claim might be quite substantial

But I'm speculating of course because in reality I know diddly squat!!

Weird gut feel..

He was a key defender in his underage year and has played as a defender almost his entire career with us..

He is a key defender and is becoming a really high quality one.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
