Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Brayshaw, Jackson, Spargo, Hunt are the noticeable names out of contract this year. Borderline best 22 players like Smith and Bedford are also ooc as are Laurie and Rosman, but none of these should be expensive to re-sign if that's our intention.

Not sure if you have inside intel but the use of the word offload is interesting and could indicate a willingness to trade contracted players. The issue there is players can refuse and who would want to leave the club that's contending for flags? I do feel we will end up losing a best 22 player in the next two years, I just hope it's neither Oliver or Jackson. Preferably not brayshaw either.

Disagree

we won't be offloading our top players but a couple of lesser ability may have to be traded out due to team needs or retirement. Ie Hibbo initially.

Well I'd say Hibbo and Melksham will retire at years end. Not sure what they are both on salary terms but will free up a little bit cap.

Majak Daw may also retire, but he wouldn't be on much and we would have to find a back up ruckman somewhere.

I think we’d be encouraging Majak to stay on. He’s been in great form at VFL level and good back-up ruckman don’t grow on trees, it’s the one weakness on our list, ideally we’d have two back up pure ruckman, right now we have Majak and Weideman who’s clearly more of a forward.
Hibbo and Melk might retire, some fringe players might seek more opportunities. I hope we can keep Brayshaw and Jacko, they’re super important.

Yeah 100% agree. Hopefully we go out and find a development ruckman, either from another club or through the draft.

I know we signed Chandler last year, but wouldn't be surprised if he seeks a trade at the end of the year and we may be fine to do it to free up cap.

Oskar Baker will likely be delisted. Assume we will keep Deakyn Smith, AMW, McVee all on the list.

Wonder if they will also look at a new deal for Steve May to spread out is salary and add extra cap space.

If Jackson signs for 2-3 years it means he doesn't want to stay with us long term. Or at the least he is sitting on the fence.  If he wants to stay long term why wouldn't we sign him up to a 5-8 year contract? This is what I don't get.

if he signs for 2-3 years, it's basically confirming that he wants to go back to WA at some point.

This is one of the most ridiculous takes I've ever read on DL

the amount of hanrahan's in this thread!

we'll all be rooned!!

especially if we:

  • keep badloss
  • lose fabflag
  • lose player X
  • keep player Y
  • don't have a home base
  • have a home base out at casey

we're the reigning premiers

the rest is all FUGAZI

Speaking of Fugazi, the lyrics of this one are also weirdly appropriate to this topic.

I am a patient boy
I wait, I wait, I wait, I wait
My time, water down a drain

Everybody's moving
Everybody's moving
Everybody's moving, moving, moving, moving

Please don't leave me to remain
In the waiting room

I don't want the news
I cannot use it
I don't want the news
I won't live by it
Sitting outside of town
Everybody's always down
Tell me why?
Because, they can't get up
Come on and get up
Come on and get up

But I don't sit idly by
I'm planning a big surprise
I'm gonna fight for what I wanna be
And I won't make the same mistakes ('cause I know)
Because I know how much time that wastes (and function)
Function is the key

I think it would mean he is keeping that option open at this stage but isn't totally sure. He's loving current life at MFC and is thinking short to medium term which is perfectly fine for a guy who we need to remember is still only 20 y.o.

Whether we like it or not there is the business and agent side of this too. Why would you agree to lock your client in long term right now when his stock is only going to go up? Not to mention the new CBA and TV rights deal coming up.

I would be absolutely stoked if he signed for 2 - 3 years. He might decide to go back eventually but he also might decide Melb is the place for him.

I personally don't think Jackson's stocks can go any higher. His mysterious skillset and untapped potential is what is driving his potential. Not so much his on field output. If Gawn went down and Jackson became the number 1 ruck then that would be just about the only thing that would increase his stocks. The new cba and tv rights deals can be built into his contract, i.e. an X% increase in $$ from CBA and TV rights will mean an X% increase in Jacksons salary. So there's no real excuse for not signing other than not wanting to be locked in to staying with Melb long term.

If we're ever to get rid of Jackson, it's now. His value will be higher now than in 2-3 years because that's 2-3 years of output the new club isn't getting.

Jackson will sign, I dont expect it to be a long term 5+ year deal, but 2/3 years. Now that Goodwin has signed on for 2 years, its a whole club approach. Finish what we have started. 2025 might be the year when the band splits up but it wont be before hand.

It is when we will make a new band. Fingers crossed that we will never plunge to the depths we have in the last 50 years.

it's pretty simple. Let's say Jackson plays until 30. If WCE/Freo get him next season, they'll have Luke Jackson for 10 years. If Jackson waits 2-3 years, WCE/Freo only get him of 7-8 years. So they're getting less total value from him.  So in terms of our compensation, we'll get more from him now than in 2-3 years time.

It's the same reason why someone like Horne-Francis is worth much more than someone like Lachie Neale, Zac Merrett, Touk Miller etc. He's younger so the team gets him for longer. That's how trade value works mate.

Luke Jackson is worth more currency with 3 more years playing with Max Gawn, than he is right now.

Luke Jackson will be our number one Ruck in 3 years time and Gawn shall retire and become a coach for us then. That is what is what I would guess the tea leaves are saying!

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
