Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Why would he extend for two years if we was guaranteed an eight-year deal with Fremantle at over $10 million.. any number of things could occur in those two years that could lower his value. A short term extension just isn’t going to happen.

Freo are nuts if this deal is accurate. He could do his ACL or have some other injury that brings him back to the pack. No guarantee he will be a super star at his age.

Huge long term contracts are very risky. Even Buddy contract was 50/50  because he missed almost two seasons overall  with injuries.

Who will buy Grundy's contract? Cannot see Pies paying another ex player to play elsewhere.

What about Coniglio at GWS ? Another longterm disaster.

The whole contract thing seems odd.

If Jackson wants to go to Freo they don't need to offer such big $ or term.  They could do 4 or 5 years on a more moderate package.  He isn't likely to go anywhere else when it expires.  Then renew another 3 or 4 years on big or bigger $ depending on how he goes.

100% correct. If he wants to pick a life changing deal & go home good luck to him. Hopefully Demons can offer something pretty good - Grundy is a lesson for the future - our list managers have been great to date!!

If it happens we just need to get a fair deal - look at Cameron age 28, Tim Kelly age 26, 3 1st rounders or 2 and a decent player seems in the ballpark.

Agree. Called balanced risk for 2 of best 5 players we’ve had in last 50 years, paying slightly unders to each for long term certainty!

Perhaps.  But that suggests Jackson might play one off against the other and I wouldn't have thought he was the type.

One would hope that if he chooses a club he isn't going to nickle and dime them but go there for the right reasons.

I was responding to your post where you called all West Aussies soft: I most definitely don’t wear my service as a badge of honour. There’s laws against deserting your regiment/unit during an operation or deployment. I discharged from defence when it was time for me to move on, there were no issues. LJ is free to do what he wants too.

But you thought you’d compare deployment to war with football. This kid was granted extra home time last year. He lives three hours away. He is not serving in the army. It’s a really unusual comparison.

ironically, if he’d made it to the NBA he would have been playing all over the country and likely traded twice in a season.

I hope it all works out for him back in WA.

Where do you rate Jackson in terms of MVP at Melbourne? If I'm generous, I'd rate him at 10th. He's young and out of contract, so Freo see him as gettable. If the money Freo are offering is true, then Jackson will be the most overpaid player in the AFL next year.

In terms of his trade value, I'm drawing a comparison to players like Dangerfield, T.Kelly and Cameron. All of these players were established stars. Amongst the 3 trades, only 1 top 10 pick was received by the club losing the player. On average, 2 1st round picks in the teens plus steak knives was the deal. I'm expecting that for Jackson.

I rate Jackson as an immense talent and most importantly, a proven performer in the GF. He's a mile off peaking so I wouldn't bother with current MVP's and I suspect Freo don't either, although I'm sure they will try and dampen his value utilising those very stats.

It's reasonable to be drawing comparisons with Danger, Kelly and Cameron for trade value but it's skewed by the fact he has so many more years ahead of him. What would rival clubs have paid for Dangerfield or Cameron in their 4th year of footy? Who knows? If they're going to pay him ridiculous money then they can't offer up average players, but then again, we're dealing with Bell, so I'm confident he'll live up to his reputation and be hunting a second feather in his cap.

The point was that you called all West Aussies soft who didn’t want to leave their mums. I’m from WA, had no issues with leaving my parents, and warring isn’t soft. It wasn’t a comparison to war, you’ve missed the point. Happy to leave it there.

Hyperbole obviously lost on you. It is undeniable though that West Australians get homesick very easily and inevitably ask to be traded home. The very reason we went cold on Nic Nat.

That's a ridiculous measurement. There's been plenty of players who have played well in Grand Finals that had average careers. Shane Ellen is the first that comes to mind. And playing well in 1 game doesn't make you a proven anything.

We won't be asking for any players, aside from steak knives Meek. As Goodwindees said, we'll get draft picks, and potentially pursue a free agent with our cap space.

I'm predicting we get a latter top 10 pick, another 1st rd (this year or next) and steak knives Meek. There may also be shuffling of picks.

I can’t believe that anyone can think of swapping him just for draft picks. A draft pick is the possibility of getting a good player; Jackson is proven as a player, his attitude is established and so is his physical durability. He can only be replaced by an established star. Plenty of top draft picks have failed. Of course we remember the draft picks that succeed; the failures are forgotten as they were of forgettable players.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
