Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Yep, whats all this nonesense about AFL players having to live close to mummy and daddy . Do they talk like this about  young NRL  players??

And stop referring to them as kids. I think its a women thing thats crept in  over recent years.

Theyre young men not kids.

Its not as if Jacksons parents live in a cave in Syria. He can get on  a plane and visit backwater Perth 2 or 3 times a year.  Jackson is the only person eho hasnt commented on his contract.

I bet  he stays.

What's with this pressure to return home by young adults to be near family and friends?  Our kids buzzed off to pursue careers and other things and have made new friends wherever they went. And without the sort of money in the bank that AFL players can have (if they have any sense).  They still keep in touch with old friends and family which these days is 1000 times easier than it was only 25 years ago.  Do footy players never grow up?

Yeah, I'm probably a rotten parent.

Luke and his parents should try living half a planet away from one another. Then come back to the “problem” of living in the same country, one 3hr45min flight apart and with a tonne of money.

My mail is he is leaning towards staying and biggest decision relates around length of contract.

The money is not an issue, he knows he will be well paid and the next contract is the big one

I anticipate a 2 year extension

Said earlier, whats holding him up is how long to sign for.

And as I alluded to earlier, with video-phone calls and text messaging, keeping in touch these days is a breeze.  I am in contact with my son who lives overseas more than I did with my own parents when I lived in the same city as them.  And when I lived oevrseas, it was the weekly aerogramme (for those old enough to know what that was).

Personally I would not want to play with someone who I might be playing against in the GF the following year. As soon as he signs on with another club he shouldn't play for us again imo

We are effectively doing it now anyway, part of the game. We’re not alone, Swans lost Hewett and Dawson last year.

The AFL podcast this morning had Freo way ahead of WCE with a 'lure' for Jackson.

Hate to pass on some depressing info.

  • Freo do not have a 2nd or 3rd round pick this year.  Currently they have #15 and #71.
  • For future picks they can only trade out their first round pick if they have a pick in every other round (either their natural pick or a traded in pick).  This reduces flexibility to use any 2023 draft currency.
  • They have signed up every player worth trading for.

Lets hope Jackson's friendship with Nic Nat is strong and Jackson picks WCE should he leave the dees.

Not necessarily. The club can refuse a trade and either force a signature or pre-season draft where he ends up at North.

I'd want Lobb and a top 10 pick as a BASE. If Freo wants a quick swap then can give us Brayshaw.

This'll be the second KPF Freo would have taken after Hogan. I say they get absolutely [censored] and we play hard ball if Jackson doesn't want to stay.

I can handle Jackson playing a year or 2 at North if it means we have to decline Peter Bell's inevitable final offer of a second round draft pick and Ethan Hughes thrown in as a sweetener for LJ.

He's going to be horrid to deal with if history is any guide.

‘Edited Reason: Nonsense’

Was that to remove or add?

Seriously, people, can we just calm down with the speculation on character until you know what he actually will do. He is an absolute gun and this is what happens to all clubs when you have someone like this.

calm down chill out GIF

Agree. AFL players are seemingly the only professional athletes on the planet who can't cope with a move away from home at 18. I've never seen or heard of an NFL, NBA or football (soccer) player leave a club because they're homesick.

Great post.

Andrew Brayshaw is currently top 5 in the comp and will be top 2 within 12 months. Freo would never let him go but I would enjoy seeing Freo fans sweat bullets if Jackson signals his intent to leave and Brayshaw is top of Melbourne’s shopping list.

No he won't. He won't be better than Petracca and Oliver for starters. I'm not saying there's no upside.

Eagles can't trade their first rounder this year though (unless they trade in another one or get special permission).

Either way, the goss is it'll be Freo and the club at this stage have said the deal will need to involved Andrew Brayshaw.

It's sounding like he's gone.

There is no way Freo give up Brayshaw in a trade for Jackson

Name one (modern day) player who has flourished after leaving Melbourne, as a big name....

Farmer? Nope

Hogan? Nope

Howe? Mebbe

Watts? Don't make me cry

Simmonds? Nope

Farmer played 118 games in 6 years for 259 goals at Melbourne.

He played 131 in 6 years for 224 goals for Fremantle.

He was as good for them as he was for us. A remarkable player that you aren't doing justice to

You know this or just speculate ? I say the latter

Speculation of course. Based on snippets from Brayshaw, Goodwin, Richardson and Gus and Gawny podcast. Which is a ton better than Barrett ect who base their speculation on “ Post bye, hasn’t signed yet. His gone.”

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. By the time they worked out it was game on, their opponents from Box Hill had accumulated five goals and, if the game wasn’t over, it might as well have been. For a se

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
