Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

The fact that they're refusing to give up pick 2 means that they have no effect when it comes to negotiations.

Expect the deal to go through today for 13, F1, F2 (freo) --> Jackson, F3 (essendon)

Yes I agree.

probably be pick 13, F1, F2 (freo) for Jackson, F3 (essendon).

needed for a top 6-7 pick at very least as well as Freo future 1st  … dockers were poor in not trading up

But imv I think we’re getting screwed for a Ruck/mid/fwd, 21yo, Generational player, rising star winner and premiership player.

We're not moving Weid FOR the jackson deal. We're just moving him because he wants to move and we dont want him,

Exactly. That's what I believe. Some on here are claiming Weideman is tied to Jackson.

I would hope that at least that F2 is the North one.

Beat me to it haha.

You're a year older than me and therefore like me, a Gen Y. Treating one group of people as a monolith hasn't been that helpful in the recent past and it amounts to nothing more than patronising, needless culture wars.

I'd say (as a Gen-Xer) the term "Ok Boomer" is a tad 'monolithic' too.

And as crudely it was originally put by the OP, there is a genuine increase in anxiety/depression and a host of other neurological maladies in the younger population these days, which is a legitimate (and unfortunate) factor in the discussion of young player's mindsets.

I think the Weid pick may be, as we might need the Bedford pick to add to/combine with 27, to trade for Grundy

The pick will be. But it's not like we're trading him just so that we can facilitate the Jackson deal like some have implied

Based on what? A vibe?

Freo are looking a cert for finals next year, and this future first of theirs has not exactly gotten me all that excited.

They have a similar game plan to us which teams had worked out by the end of the year. Very stodgy ball movement, forward half more dysfunctional than us

They lose Mundy and a number of other players, they’ll have a harder draw

Longmuir is a good coach. He may well tweak the game plan and improve them again. They’re every chance to play finals but I just have my doubts and won’t be surprised if they miss out

Our firm takes on graduates fresh out of uni every year. Maybe it's our recruitment processes, I don't know, but they are as hard working and switched on as previous cohorts. Definitely not snowflakes as they are sometimes portrayed to be. I'm in finance so might be different in other sectors

The increases in anxiety could just be a consequence of greater acceptance in society of mental health as opposed to an actual increase. Having said that I can't see how social media and the pile on culture could be anything other than detrimental to people's mental health

Me too.

Every year, at least 2 teams slip out of the Final 8, sometimes 3.  The av is 2.7.

Lets say its 2 teams fall out.  I reckon Freo are in the frame to be one of them. Maybe Dogs too.  Blues and Power to come in.

The rest Tiges, Lions Dees, cats, swans, Pies (maybe),  keep their spots.

Freo's picks may well be attractive.

Is it an increase in anxiety/depression or is it a better ability to diagnose conditions and seek help for them without being socially shunned? Edit. @BDA nails it above.

There is definitely the element of increased diagnoses pumping up the numbers.

But thanks to the Information Age, we now get served up news about climate change, potential nuclear war, increasing wealth divides and widespread corruption with our breakfasts.

Then throw in social media and the various elements of that which all add up to “you’re not doing enough with your life” (or worse), and you’ve got the perfect storm for the mental health epidemic we’re currently witnessing.

Note, I’m not framing this as a “young people are snowflakes” argument. Which is what BDA was addressing to another poster.

In previous years players got slaps on the back and some abuse over the fence. Now there is an avalanche of personal criticism.

"Your opinion of me is none of business" would help.  But easier said than done.

I agree although I think the 24 hour news cycle and social media is impacting all generations though.

Sure, but on Demonland we’re primarily discussing folks between 17-30 years of age.

Straw man comment. Not unexpected

Mundy's spot will be will be hard for Freo to fill adequately, regardless of B&F finish

Fwiw, I too think Freo might drop a little, maybe 8 or 9. Logue, Acres and possibly Lobb are also significant outs.

Time will tell

If they get the coaching right and he develops his midfield craft as quickly as I think he can Jackson should take a lot of Mundy’s midfield minutes.

Mundy was still getting the ball but he was a defensive liability, Jackson can be a defensive force and an even bigger body. That will allow Brayshaw and Serong to play more attacking roles. They will need one of their young mids to step up though to give cover for when Jackson rucks or is on the bench.

I expect Freo to be excellent defensively again and no worse in attack. There’s a chance it goes either way but they seem rock solid 4-10th on the ladder.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
