Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Not sure if anyone saw the list in the HS this week of top 100 paid players we had by far the most and at the pointy end to. Got me thinking with Picket out of contract and Brayshaw just recently committing on big coin to, was losing Jackson or someone else on big money inevitable, unless players are willing to take big cuts to stay together.  When compared to cats our list looks very top heavy contract wise. If the figures are to be believed we simply can’t afford Jackson 700-800 and Pickett 600-700, along with all the role players who will be demanding more than minimum like spargo, sparrow, petty, Jordan, bedford and a host of resent picks in the vfl. We might still loose a few but perhaps keeping Jackson means we loose them all.

With the price of Land skyrocketing in the Jeelong area, I imagine that quite a few blocks are distributed amongst the Playing list. Disguised deeply within clauses of course

If Jacko goes we desperately need another young developing Ruck to replace Max in the future.

Do we have anyone?? I dont mean some burned out injured over priced hack...

Paddy Ryder anyone? I genuinely thought he was voluntarily retiring but that might not be the case.

Obvious risk with his age and body but if you got 1 season and 15 games out of him…

clearly on strategy for Goodwin’s game plan and would come a lot cheaper than Grundy…

It’s a decent idea. You would want a developing ruckman too for the games Ryder will miss.

Maybe that is where Meek comes into the picture… give him one additional year of apprenticeship under Ryder/Gawn

Maybe. But I don’t rate Meek on the little I have seen of him and I want 90 cents in the jackson dollar so to speak. If he is ‘worth’ 15 cents - I don’t want that diluting what we get back. What we get back has to inevitably replace Ben Brown in 2024 as FF in a top 4 team at least IMO.

SEN ..AFL trades reporter matter of factly saying Jacksons gone but still a toss up between the eagles and freo as to who signs him.

I cant believe that we would take Grundy in a three way swap involving Darcy and the massive salary package  that comes with him. Pies wont compensate us.They've tried worming out of the Treloar salary dump with the bulldogs.

Thanks alot LJ. Tempting to drop him  for the finals but cant. No-one to replace him. He better play well for us before jumping ship.

Wouldn't worry about the SEN trade reports - most of them would be way off the mark.

Nick Bryan from Essendon would be one that I'd target. Reportedly open to a move. Essendon confident he will stay, but they are a rabble atm. Could be an easy get.

Blaming Jackson?? He’s already been playing well for us in the last few games and I can’t see him slowing down for the remaining games. I hate this idea that if someone is likely to leave the club, they should be made to play out their remaining games in the VFL.

Jackson obviously loves the club and his team mates, but he obviously has a strong desire to be in the same place as his family.

I just spent a happy bit of time watching Isaac Keeler tapes on youtube.

I'm a lot less afraid of losing Jackson than I was.

Good set shots with bonus level outside 50, smart field kicking that doesn't overreach, high initiative, actively looks for teammates, and as a ruck-forward he gets handball receives on the run at half back and uses them effectively.

We're going to want to get a pick to make sure of him.

Much better looking than Jackson, too.

People have written comparisons to Paddy Ryder but when you add the run through the middle aspect he's actually a bit more like a lanky Adam Goodes, or, day I say it, a slightly more regular-human Luke Jackson.

My 'hot take' (as in, a statement not to be taken too seriously) is that if we lose Jackson our final trade and draft result will be Isaac Keeler with a top-10 draft pick (my guess is Gold Coast's pick 7 via Fremantle) as well as a competitive mid-age ruck-forward on moderate coin (or Grundy if Collingwood can be sucked into paying at least half his salary for lols) and probably still have a 2023 first round pick left over.

Amazing how these trade 'gurus' make up trades.

No-one has come up with a realistic trade for Jackson.  They talk of this or that player and late first round pick(s) which is nothing like his worth, not that we will get his true worth.  So unrealistic!  Their Jackson values are just not comparable to the other trades they happily propose, like:

  • Rankine to the Crows for their first pick #5 plus a 2nd round/third round pick.  They base that on the Cera trade.
  • a good 1st round pick plus a player for Grundy and his salary.

They are blind to the imbalance of those trades vs Jackson...because they don't have a clue how the Jackson deal will get done.  Lots of salt grains needed when hearing trades options for Jackson.

All for it personally and was saying it before his retirement. I'd prefer this than moving heaven and earth to get Grundy.

However as others have mentioned we need someone waiting in the wings as well. I'm not wowed by what I've seen of Meek.

I've heard several times the going rate for Rankine is two first rounders.  Jackson is worth much more than that and I can't see Freo especially being able to make it happen.  It's going to be a very intriging October and November.

Maybe West Coast had to be sure they didn’t have pick 1, before they started to seriously chase Dogga. No one has traded pick 1 for a long time. Pick 2 would be fine though, and along with pick 20, sounds pretty fair to me. Then go after Cadman

According to the "The West" today, Jackson agreed to terms months ago with Freo, though west coast are hopeful.  They'll need to come up with a good deal, not sure how they will do it without offloading value players to us other for a draft pick.

As for Ryder, great but too old.  I'm sure the club can locate some developing ruckman or pinch on from another club.

Ryder is 35. He's retired from the Saints, and why would we think he could be good for us?

- He was still in decent form when he played

- Could he a nice stop gap for a year along with a younger Ruck

- Has forward craft

- Would be a hell of a lot cheaper than Grundy

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. By the time they worked out it was game on, their opponents from Box Hill had accumulated five goals and, if the game wasn’t over, it might as well have been. For a se

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
