Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Weagles dont have a first or future first pick to trade......

QUIRK IN EAGLES' JACKSON CHASE

WEST Coast would need an AFL exemption to trade for Luke Jackson if the Melbourne young gun decided to go back to Western Australia.

The Eagles are the only club not allowed to trade their first-round pick at this year's draft under the AFL's rules, which force clubs to use two first-round picks over a rolling four-year period to ensure they don't trade away all of their future selections.

West Coast has used one first-round pick in the past four years – Campbell Chesser last year – and could only trade their first pick if they secured a second first-round selection.

However, clubs are also able to apply for exemptions to trade out their top picks if they haven't reached the two-in-four requirement, with the AFL then able to decide.

The Eagles using their top pick at this year's draft – likely to be No.2 or 3 – to try to lure Jackson back to Western Australia would be expected to be approved by the AFL, though, considering Jackson was a No.3 pick just three years ago and will only be 21 at the end of this season.

Another option would be to split their early pick into two multiple first-round picks, which wouldn't require AFL approval.

The star young ruckman has been weighing his decision to remain at Melbourne, where he was a central member of its premiership win last year, or return to Western Australia, with the Eagles and Fremantle both ready to make a play. – Callum Twomey

Talk about a click bait heading ie the first line which sounds categoric!!

Then the contradiction ie the second line

.......

At least someone else finally gets that splitting their first round pick is an option so hopefully I don't have to keep repeating it in this thread...

We always seems to manage to find one

But we would have to trade out something/someone of equivalent first round value to get that whereas our 'natural first round pick, which we don't have is 'free'.

I kind of agree with Jake here - It's going to take a mammoth contract to get Jackson to leave... but as we've seen in the past that can be a bit of a noose around the neck of the player and club.

Jackson is a freak - no doubt.  But if he is on $1M at 22 years of age (and the club has given up two first rounders, or one first rounder and a decent player) then the pressure is on him to perform.  He seems to handle pressure well but he's not regularly tearing games apart like most that get paid that amount.

I often wonder how these things work.  Would a player manager ever say "You could get $X from Y but it's not all about the money.  That's going to put a lot of pressure on you and we don't want another Boyd situation."  Given that's against their own self interest I'm guessing not

Mate. Everyone understood what you were saying. The point was even with splitting picks they would still need to trade both to get anywhere near the currency for a trade for Jackson, so they're still left with no first rounders.

Then you talked about splitting future picks for other teams future picks and honestly I'm not sure that has ever happened or ever would? Not sure you'd find multiple teams willing to take that gamble in one trade.

1) No one knows what currency will be required.

2) That is not what I said.  I said there are various combos of 2022 and 2023 picks with other clubs that could form part of a WCE split of 2022 first round pick.

Ah - why?

because they'd be bringing in a 21 year old rising star winner and two-time premiership player

protecting first round picks is to ensure clubs aren't mortgaging their future for the present by trading in blokes due to retire in future years

any club can apply for an exemption to trade out of the first round; pretty sure the puddy tatts did it a few years back

I would suggest the currency would need to be MORE than what we paid for him.

So if the Eagles get permission to trade pick (let's say) 3, I don't think we would do that as a deal.

Eagles: Hey would you take pick 3 for Jackson?
Dees: Ummmmmm no
Eagles: Well, how about if we split our picks and offer picks 10 and 22 (points matching)
Dees; Lol what?

As for part 2, you're absolutely right, there's a ton of other potential options there, perhaps you can provide an idea of a realistic scenario based on the current indicative order and ability to trade future picks?

No, no no no!!

Whatever I come with will just result in you or others picking holes in it and then we joust for a while and go on a merry-go-round again.

I shall decline the invitation, thank you.

Haha that is actually fair enough mate!

FWIW, I don't believe WC are even in play in this situation. Will be us or Freo.

Not sure on the girlfriend, but I heard about his parents. They were planning to move across to Victoria, but Covid delayed those plans and they've since decided to remain in WA. It may be a key factor in his decision to move back WA unfortunately.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. By the time they worked out it was game on, their opponents from Box Hill had accumulated five goals and, if the game wasn’t over, it might as well have been. For a se

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
