Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

As a hypothetical, what happens if we use 17, then Mac is available at 21? Do we have the points to match or will we need to make a bunch of draft-day pick swaps to make it work?

Yes we do and plenty left over for Taj, depending on where he is selected..

I'm still keen on Josh Sinn with pick #17 in the 2021 AFL National Draft.

Here is his highlights package shown below.

However, until it is closer to the Draft at the end of November I really won't know who we will look to pick.

Either way, I have faith in Jason Taylor finding another gem for the Demons.

I think we would have him as one of our biggest targets but likely gone before we get a pick unless we can sneak higher

@Davos and @adonski care to provide some insight as to where you are getting these 'vibes'?

Purely speculation on my behalf (thus the crystal ball)

Both seem like Goodwin/Taylor types & should be available at our pick

Bad kicks? Don’t think so

I am tipping we pick a tall we rate that slips to our pick. Laurie barely played due to injury and COVID. He becomes in effect another 1st round pick in the Bank we available  have this year. He is that small forward/mid type.

We also need a ruck to develop over the next few seasons. Conway would be an option if JT and team are happy with his mobility and pace for a big man. That could mean using our 2nd and 3rd picks to trade up a little or he slips. He is the highest rated ruck in the draft but expected to take time to develop.

When you come off a Premiership you probably look for any holes in the list that will be hard to fill with long term injury, loss of form or pending retirement in coming year(s).

You then identify these players and try to trade up to where you think they will be picked. Probably why we have traded for pick 17. Likely have a couple of targets.  I suspect we will be active in moving our picks higher.

Last year we obviously focused on players with footy smarts and elite ball use skills.

Reckon we'll take one of Mitch Owens or Knevitt

Crystal Ball GIF by Fall Out Boy

I reckon Knevitt will be gone, too much upside for someone not to take a chance earlier. 30+ touches at 193cm with athleticism - hard to see him lasting past 15 I reckon.

Owens is appealing, tall wingman who can read the play, but I'm not convinced by him.

They're both tall mids with contested ball winning but I'm not sure they have the powerful games that Taylor seems to like. Even the smalls he's drafted in Koz, Spargo and Bowey have a lot of power per square inch of size. Sparrow and Rivers both like to use their power to burst through congestion. Same with Harmes - for better or worse. Salem - thrives playing with contact and in congestion.

There's every chance we go left field as we often do if one of the top quality guys doesn't drop. But from what I've seen the most Jason Taylor player around the mark of our pick is Sam Butler.

Would be interesting to go that way after picking up Bailey Laurie last year

Talls and tall flankers/wing depth are probably more of a need but running midfielder types make up a huge chunk of the team. Tracc, Oliver, Viney, Harmes, Sparrow, Salem, Bowey, ANB, Spargo. That’s 9 of 22. I wouldn’t be worried about having overlap in that group as long as the players are versatile.

Agree. Sinn is a quality youngster. His left foot disposal and skill makes him definitely top draft pick about 10-12 ranked imv.  Dees would have to trade up to get him (if he was available, he’d be a huge get).

and agree - JT is a legend and will find a gem once again.

Its insane to think that there are maybe 5(?) players who were touted as top 10 picks at the start of the year that might be on offer. COVID has really messed with peoples season.

I know it sounds silly, but I got definite diet-Fyfe vibes from watching Owens highlights.

I like Knevitt’s raw potential paired with consistency and high volume possessions, but I think that’ll mean he’s not available for us.

Yeah the marking was nuts wasn't it. He looked incredibly brave too which would appeal to JT.

Thoughts on Wilmont? Touted around our pick. If he was one day younger he would be in next year's draft.

Darcy Wilmont

Defender

183cm/75kg

31/12/03

Northern Knights/Vic Metro

Wilmot is undoubtedly an eye-catcher: he plays with an aggressive, combative streak out of half-back and takes the game on. The Northern Knights prospect can gallop out of defence and is competitive in the air against opponents who may be bigger and stronger than him at this point of his development. Wilmot is the youngest player in the draft – he turns 18 on December 31 – and he looms as a real top-20 chance next month.

Provided that we can select a player with good footy skills and a head for the game that we play, I really don't see any pick under the 30th selection being a poor one - given that our coaching panel is now the best in the AFL - and importantly, has the brains and talents of both Yze and Chocko, plus the development arm at Casey, to call the shots on player development and up-skilling.

Most people look at this draft and try to guess what JT is thinking but we have yet to see what Bailey Laurie and Fraser Rosman can do because of the limited opportunities in 2021 other than training and development programs so if we get 3-4 players thru the draft we will probably have 5-6 players virtually new to put pressure on the existing 36.

Players like Oscar Baker must make some development progress or will fall by the wayside in 2022.

Good call. Yze and Choco working with the youngsters is a fantastic opportunity for these young men.  Laurie ahd Rosman will effectively be new recruits all over again. We’ve seen the value of (Yze and Choco) mentoring and training the youngsters.  The development, that was so lacking in prior years, is now such a strength.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
