Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Have a look at Majak Daws highlights when he was recruited and he looks fantastic, Mac may go to GWS but the question will be has he got support from the Sudanees Community there, if not he will want to return to Melbourne to be near friends and family.

If you are not born in the country people don't understand that you need friends and family you know to feel comfortable in any environment.

At Melbourne he would be able to live with your family and have Majak to make you comfortable in the club.

Don’t know much about him - would Turner be expected to spend all of 2022 at Casey developing or get a glimpse in the seniors?  Is he a KPP defender or a tall flanker?  Is he a lock down type? Any comments on his one on one capabilities.

Looked very similar to Petty's first year from what I saw, maybe minus a couple of cm's and with a bit more ability to find the ball. I think he'll be trained up as cover for Lever and Petty (and therefore also Tommo) across half back much more than a lockdown defender. He's an interceptor who moves well for a tall rather than a shut down player. But he's never had an AFL preseason so who knows how quickly he can come on and what a big summer can do.

Aliir Aliir was born in Kenya, raised in Brisbane, then moved to Perth after not getting drafted as his family had previously moved there.

Then he was drafted by the Sydney Swans, before getting traded - not to his childhood home in Brisbane or later family home in Perth but to Adelaide.

I don't think it's fair to make generalizations about someone unless you really know what motivates them and what they value or need for support. Everyone needs friends and some form of community no matter where they live. For a lot of AFL players those friends and community are the players drafted with them and other team mates.

GWS have 2 players of African heritage. 1 is Irish. 1 was born in London but grew up in Geelong. Yes that's different to being Sudanese but for all their faults the Giants seem to run a pretty good club. Players leave there for a lot of reasons but they've also had a strong core stay together for a fair while now.

Grundy and English slipped slipped to late teens. Maybe rucks are more in demand now than before?? Mac as a long term development prospect may well slip.

I would think that JT would have options up his sleeve.

I would not rule out a draft night move up a little in the order although not sure what with.

I already have my eyes set on Josh Rachele from the Murray Bushrangers with this pick

Small forward/midfielder with A ton of X factor about him.

Think of a Toby Greene/Alan Didak

Looks like both West Coast and Freo are interested and would beat us to him before pick 17. Question is if we could trade up further? Freo have a swag of high picks.

Yeah not surprised. He could easily go around 10-12 mark.

I believe that we pick the best available and if Taylor & Co believes that a small forward is the go I would back him.

Although every body has said we have many tall forwards I think the depth is there for the next 2 to 3 years but we need to allow a young KP, be it Forward or Back, players at least 2 years development before they are ready to take on the mantle.

I watched the Grand Final again and noticed the ground Brown covered in the match I wish I could get his GPS stats but he seem to go from the full forward line to the full back line which meant the players were never over crowding the Forward Half and the talls always were well separated meaning tall backs for the Bulldogs were most times playing one on one with their tall opponents allowing Fritsch to run into the fat side of the ground and use his elite marking skills virtually one on one.

Now is the time young KP players would learn their craft from Brown as a Forward and May as a Back, so they get a great grounding in the art of KP play.

Any chance Amiss makes it to 17? I’d love to get a tall sharp shooter into the team. Even though we made it look easy in the second half of the granny, there have been many occasions throughout the year where we could have completely sealed the game by half time but inaccuracy meant we left the door open.

I am definitely interested in seeing what Jason Taylor has planned for pick #17 in the 2021 AFL National Draft.

I was pleasantly surprised that we were able to sneak into round 1 again. The Demons definitely have a very clever strategy of "back pay" for trading to get higher draft picks.

As for my possible draftees. It all depends upon if we go for best available or we go for a specific need.

There are my 10 possibilities for our number #17 draft pick.

1) Josh Goater

Calder Cannons/Vic Metro | Midfielder

2/06/2003 | 190cm | 79kg

2) Jye Amiss

East Perth/Western Australia | Key Forward

31/07/2003 | 195cm | 85kg

3) Josh Sinn

Sandringham Dragons/Vic Metro | General Defender

7/01/2003 | 186cm | 82kg

4) Jacob Van Rooyen

Claremont/Western Australia | Key Forward/Utility

16/04/2003 | 195cm | 88kg

5) Matthew Johnson

Subiaco/Western Australia | Inside Midfielder

16/03/2003 | 193cm | 80kg

6) Campbell Chesser

Sandringham Dragons/Vic Country | Outside Midfielder

27/04/2003 | 186cm | 83kg

7) Darcy Wilmot

Northern Knights/Vic Metro | General Defender

31/12/2003 | 183cm | 75kg

8) Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera

Glenelg/South Australia | Midfielder/Utility

22/02/2003 | 187cm | 70kg

9) Toby Conway

Geelong Falcons/Vic Country | Ruck

24/04/2003 | 204cm | 90kg

10) Mac Andrew

Dandenong Stingrays/Vic Country | Ruck/Utility

12/04/2003 | 200cm | 70kg

Overall, I think we will go after the best available talent rather than a specific need but I guess we will have to wait and see if there are any unexpected top 10 picks that might slip down to pick #17 on draft night I guess? Personally, I have a close eye on Josh Sinn, Josh Goater, Campbell Chesser and Darcy Wilmot as our most likely to be picked up by the Demons.

One of the best aspects of the season was to see the progress of 'HeartBreaker' Petty. Hindsight is 20/20 vision but, hand on heart, I was convinced very early on that we had a player. I remember reading the bio - (paraphrasing) from remote sheep farming area, raw boned kid, tough as nails. He was pick 37 in 2017. Early days were a bit shaky but his reading of the game was always good. And let's not forget, the kid's only 21 and will only get stronger.

I'd back Jason Taylor to get us another defender but I'm hoping it's one of the 30 + picks. Petty was a gem in the rough and I think there will be a couple of others around that mark. Hoping JT can target an outside mid who can move forward. There's not much exposed form in Victoria and he's probably smart enough to use that to our advantage. I think of someone like Oliver who came from the clouds in terms of being on our radar.

We are in n a position now where we can just pick best player available or pick a Smokey who we think may develop into something special.

Maybe some indigenous talent or some more outside speed.

Reckon JT loves the lack of exposure. Keeps the gems hidden.

Just read the draft is spread out over 2 nights.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure last year it took nearly 2 hours to get to our 1st pick?

I think it's written somewhere that Jason Taylor and the recruiting team did not expect Petty to last to that pick as they rated him extremely highly. So when he was still on the board they quickly had no hesitations drafting him.

Petty selection is really an underrated pick considering what he was able to achieve this year.

Remember watching some Casey games in 2018 and was just clunking every ball that was coming his way down in defence. Came away from each time thinking we had an absolute better of a player.

That’s correct. They weren’t in the market for a key defender that late, but they said it was a gift too good to refuse.

Maybe we look at using p37 for Gunston? Still has 2 good years in front of him.

I listened to Jason Taylor's interviews and he has a policy of tracking players from the time they are U16 watching their progress thru the system, I believe they had an interest in Lever during his draft year but were not willing the pick him 2 or 3 (Petracca and Brayshaw).

Also Lever was coming off a knee reconstruction.

The only confusing part of all that is why weren't they in a market for a key defender! A year later and we were giving up Hogan/pick 6 for Steve May!

Still not convinced that if JT got his way they wouldn't have taken Lever at pick 3 anyway. They also nearly got him by trading Trengove to the Tigers but he failed the medical. Sliding doors moment right there.

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
