Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

You've made me think, Fork: I wonder what it would have been like to witness it as a neutral, with no inkling (like we maybe had) of its possibility? Yeah well .... The ones I speak to didn't see that coming at all.
I laugh "Told ya we'd forken kill 'em."  😀

One bloke declared after the Prelim that we mighta played our GF already.
"They'll never play that well again."
To be picky they didn't but the Grand Final was a lot more explosive.

The neutrals I know (generally Collingwood, Richmond and St Kilda supporters) all loved the game. Partly it was because they liked seeing Melbourne finally break through and partly because the game was in the balance with a minute to go before three quarter time followed by the onslaught which they also loved.

Sparrows one stepper from 50. Not for his goal so much but for Tommy Mac grabbing Cordy 5m from the goal line and pushing him back, back and finally giving him airtime 3m over the line. That show of force summed up what we did to the Bulldogs for the rest of the night

Not sure about that. If you're relying on the year to remind you, how would you know if it was 20 goals or 21 in 2021? If we'd kicked 20 goals and 21 behinds, then I would agree.

True, although I'd have thought it's pretty common to recall years by the last two numbers alone since the first apply to all years in that century. And I'm unlikely to forget it was the year '21 that we won the flag! 21 goals in '21. Works for me.

Favourite goals.

1. Oliver running goal to end the third quarter. It killed off the dogs (bang bang bang). Jackson’s gather and handball was first class. Oliver’s salute showed we will on top now and charging.

2. Petracca goal from the boundary line - inside out banana - 3rd quarter (bang)

3. Fritsch goal - mark attempt then recovered ball to kick his 2nd goal in 30 seconds - 3rd quarter

4. Brayshaw goal after courageous mark. Dead straight kick.  Put us in front.

5. Sparrows goal after centre square clearance. The nail was being hammered in (bang bang)

6. Fritsch mark and goal in the 3rd quarter to stop the dogs run. It was a pressure kick and he nailed it to give  us hope

7. Petracca goal off one step from outside 50. What a talent!!  It started the game.

8.  Langdon goal in the last.  He started deep in defence with a possession and then ran and ran and ran down to follow the ball before accepting a pass in the forward pocket. The Stevie-J snap from the pocket just capped  it off.

9. Ben Brown mark and goal at the start of the last quarter.  5 goals up and we could smell blood.

10.  Spargo goal in the first quarter after the pressure of Kozzy to chase and chase to create a turnover. No stat for Kozzy but worth the applause.

11. Salem goal in the last quarter. Evades two Bulldogs creates space and 25 metre snap goes through. Topped off a magnificent match for him.

12. Ben Brown goal in the third quarter.  Third goal in 2 minutes after Fritsch double. Scores now even. “Come on” I yelled. “Go Dees, we’re back”!!!!!

13.  4th quarter. Oliver’s smother, Petracca beautiful 90degree angle pass to Tommy Mcd. Goal.  8 goals up. It’s our PREMIERSHIP!!

and another 8 more special goals to make it 21.

Ahhh.  Such great memories!!!!

Frittas leap and grab. He had no right to land and run away with it like that

Alls well that ends well but i would have liked to see him take the mark. Crashed the pack and was set perfectly but Maxy spoiled it. Would have been a ripper mark.

Sparrow’s reaction after his goal is the best, if that doesn’t pump you up then nothing will.

That’s what I loved most about it! After kicking that amazing goal he looked like he was 10 years older and 10 feet taller, and had enough adrenaline to last a lifetime. ❤️💙

It's a basic football fundamental, IRW.  If you're facing the goals, you may spot an unattended team mate in a far better position than you or the opponent on the mark may not be paying attention, allowing you to run forward into space.

Both of these scenarios increase the team's chances of scoring a goal which can't happen if you have your back to the play and therefore don't know what's happening up ahead.

Geez I only said it was my favourite goal because BT pontificated once more( he's a goal kicking expert as we all know...) and got it wrong  AGAIN.

Yeah righto  but that not what the Spud said...he said you need to be looking at the goals.

Nothing about  options or the man on the mark.

He reads everything off a pre prepared  cheat sheet anyway, I think he went to point 5 when he should have read out number 6.

The first four are what he says when he's variously decreeing  where the kicker should aim for.

Great Q

Im trying not to go with the obvious but the Trac goal for me was literally so emotionally charging on a day I remained so uncharacteristically subdued..

But.. actually I’m going with the “BANG.. Bang, Bang, Bang!!!” Clarry special & Sparrow Super kicks as my top = #1

Picking a favourite goal is like picking your favourite child, they are all my favourites because in the end the premiership was won and we have a team worthy of the term the Mighty Demons.

It like asking which disposal of Petracca is your favourite.

Maybe the first goal from Petracca was the best because it helps settle the side in the most important match of the year or Fritsch 2nd goal in the 3rd which gave the side a sniff or Petracca's 2nd goal which started an onslaught or Sparrows 1 step goal in the middle of 3 or Oliver's running goal which broke the Bulldogs resistance.

You could ask the same question what was the most important moment of the match and I would say that Bailey Smith's fumble in the 3rd quarter allowing Harmes to get a clean disposal and pass to Fritsch which basically shifted the momentum.

Interesting you say that, I have posted elsewhere that kozzie did 3 defensive actions leading to Spargos first goal  , brayshaws goal and this goal. In the helter skelter of the 3rd quarter and google ads , I didnt  pickup kossies actions live . Only when I watched the replays did I pick it up.

I listened to footyolgy podacast with rohan and finey , last night . It was recorded live after the game. Finey made the observation ( and others did to ) that kozzie had a bad game  because he had 4 kicks only . I say kossies 2 efforts in the 3rd quarter led to 2 vital goals when the pressure was on . Every goal after the first 2 goals in last quarter was icing on the cake . The rubber band had broken , dees were pumped and doggies were gone mentally.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
