Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Absolutely.

I've already thrown my two cents in but on reflection, if you take away all of the drama and meaning, the first goal of the game was the best.

Trac, round the corner, off a step with a defender right there.

So many, and no correct answer.

-Angus’ gutsy mark and cool goal engendered belief

-Sparrow’s cool calm 55 meter kick

-Oliver’s immediate follow up

-  and how about Max’s one that was called a behind?  Isn’t that exactly why the much overused and abused review system was introduced in the first place?  To avoid miscalling a Grand Final?   Had we gone under by a few points I am sure it would be being discussed just a little bit more

I know, I know, it’s like having to pick your favourite child. But if you had to choose one goal, which would it be?

For mine, 3rd quarter, Tom Sparrow’s huge kick from barely off a step. And his pumped-up celebration afterwards.

Interesting choice with sparrow I guess it’s an underrated goal when we are so spoilt with choice. It got me thinking sparrow has kicked some beauty’s this season.

-Vs saints -  classy finish stepping aside of a would be tackler

- Vs QF Brisbane  - quick reply on the run from 45 in the first qrt

- Vs Brisbane round 12 nice goal from 50 in the final Qrt

For my personal favourite it’s the Oliver goal. Technically is probably not the most spectacular goal I think that would go to Petracca. Just the Oliver goal felt so surreal in so many ways and that celebration was as cool and calm as the finish itself.

I didn't choose this goal (I selected ANB's), but depending on what you mean by "technically", this was still a superb team goal. The way and the speed with which the ball was released from the centre and the centimetre perfect (sorry, Dennis) handpass from Jackson were as "technically perfect" as you'd like to see. When watching that goal I'm finding my admiration is more for the handpass from Jackson than the kick itself. The way the ball landed so perfectly in Oliver's grasp as he's running at top pace without having to change his speed or his direction is quite extraordinary to watch. Over and over again.

I back him every time he gets it on or just outside 50. He's been doing it regularly at VFL level.

EVERY. SINGLE. ONE. OF. 'EM!!!!

I sculled down half a can of CC with every one which of course made me a little worse for wear and even more so after the replay on Foxtel 🤢.

It's cliche but Tracc's Daicos-esque dribbler in the 3rd.

It broke the Doggies. Look at Johnny English's expression in the slow mo replay after he dobbed that. Look at the fire in Tracc's eyes. You knew, albeit in hindsight, at that point we had got the buggers.

Sparrow also kicked a beauty to Fritsch in the 1st that would have gone through, and a beauty to the advantage of BB in the last where he goaled.

As well his work when he was at the centre square is terrific.

He will be a gun very shortly. Maybe Like Beemer but with more class....

oliver's for me

the imagery was just so powerful

dogga, vines and clarry all powering forward out of the front of the centre bounce, the perfect handpass the perfect kick to split the sticks.

all in the blink of an eye and the third goal in 30secs of clock time to close out the 3q with a stunning 4 goal lead

clarry pointing to the sky signifying this is ours, the crowd going mad and the dogs with stunned, defeated body language

you couldn't script it

Fantastic call DS.

I felt that we needed to be 'on' from the start, being used to giving away big leads early in seasons past.

Trac's goal said ' here we go', who says we'll be lethargic after 1 game in 28 days crap.

and my nerves settlled from then on.

Oliver's goal at the end of the 3rd quarter.

  • The athletic team grunt, spread and skill of Jackson, Viney and Oliver

  • The right arm pointing of Clarry with a look of "we are gods" written across his face.
  • And the look of absolute astonishment and frozen shock on the faces of Treloar and Bont as they tried to understand what the **** was going on.

Close 2nd - Brayshaw.

100% and like you this was the goal I went the closest to touching the ceiling.

Can't stand JB and BT but I really thought their call of the game was brilliant.

Little bit of a sucker for BT'S "When you cross Dusty with Daicos, you get Petracca." Line too.

Thought I was redlining when Sparrow kicked his.
But then lost my forking mind 20secs later when Oliver drilled his.
The boys were doin' it before my very eyes.
Still shake my head about it all.

Look when he receives from Viney in Sparrows goal.
Times his run to perfection .... And the receive ...... Beautiful.

The one that probably had the most emotional and memorable impact for me was that one of Gus's.  Game was somewhat in the ballance for a good period without a score after those Fritta & BBB goals put us back in it.

Huge pressure moment.  Mixture of a sense of relief and gratification for me when he kicked it as I'd internally back Gus to kick the goal in a pressure situation like this.  As it sailed towards goal, straight through the middle, I rose up out of my seat, with a long slow fist pumping YEEEAAAHHHHEEEESSSSS.  Hitting the front at that moment was huge.

By the time Oliver kicked his goal, that 3 minute run of goals had just become an unbelievable blur and I was in a place of absolute ecstasy.

Reactions of the players after kicking those goals in the third and fourth quarters was awsome.  Asides from the already much mentioned Tommy Sparrow, Claret and Salem goals, I really loved Dogga's reaction after kicking his goal.  Over the past couple of months I think Dogga's confidence and competence in front of goal gas gone through the roof.  Where-as I would get nervous and doubtful about any of his set shots from anything muc further than 25m out from goal, over the past few months, he's more reliably slotted them through from the 30m - 50m range, which I think bodes very well for his future.

Seeing Langdon slot that goal after practically running the length of the ground was so well deserved.  Lingers ran his guts out for us all day and was one of the ones I thought really shone through for us in that third quarter when we most needed that extra effort to get us back in it.

Trac's dribbler goal by a short half-head. That was the most difficult kick, executed beautifully at a critical time, and the one that would be the most difficult to repeat. Gus's goal was also up there, mainly for effort to take the mark. The set shot was basically one that he should kick every single day of the week.

I find I really missed being at the game the most for the final two goals of the third term. I love it when there is a big involved crowd, and there is a centre break like those, as the whole crowd senses what is about to happen, and leans forward in anticipation. Then when it all unfolds like that with a high-speed, high-energy perfect execution, it is hard not to jump for joy due to the sheer excitement.

So Trac's was the best, but the other two got he fists pumping ...

All had me fist pumping.
Still maintain the Viney crunch, Harmes gather, takeaway and deliver to Fritta.

Regulation goal that gave us hope;
started the turnaround.

One more to the dogs then …

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
