Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Every club, trade link and pick: Updated state of play as AFL trade period opens

We can’t really expect much from the trades given that we’ve managed to sign up most of our list. There’s the possibility of trading some future picks to improve our draft position but that appears to be all.

Key rules to note in the Trading / Drafting Process: (from The Age):

• A club may exchange with another club or clubs any combination of Primary List player(s), Rookie List player(s), National Draft Selection(s) and Future National Draft Selection(s)

• Any rookie list player involved in any trade must be put on the senior list of the club to which he is traded;

• A club cannot on-trade a player received in any exchange until the following year.

• A club may exchange a draft selection it has received from another club, provided that the selection is not traded directly back to that club.

• Where the exchange of a player(s) and National Draft selection(s) involves more than two clubs, it is not a requirement that each club involved in the transaction make an exchange between each other.

• Any National Draft selection received in an exchange does not need to be exercised.

Without a lot of exposed form it might be best to hold future picks this year...unless we have a specific target.

Can we swap a few picks? Try and move up somehow?

I back our recruiting team to draft well, so this is the best avenue I'd say.

There aren't too many players out there right now that are available who we are desperate to get?

Hopefully we can move up the draft, I'd be happy just to do that and not add list cloggers lol

Just my opinion but I reckon we'll see a change in tact this year. We've hit the draft pretty hard in the last few years and taken advantage of our dip down the ladder. This has also involved trading our future first rounders as we all know.

As we consolidated ourselves as the premier team in the competition, the incentive for other clubs to trade picks for our futures becomes less. There are of course teams like Bulldogs and Pies that need points, but Bulldogs are unlikely going to want to give us a helping draft hand as they are our direct competition for the coming flags and Pies seem to have an arrangement with Gold Coast in place for multiple pick swaps.

With having a young team (7 players < 50 games experience and <22yr in the gf) our focus could move from drafting high end draft talent, which becomes more difficult to acquire from our draft position, to trading in established talent to supplement our list.

Already we have failed in our bid for Cerra due to not having the draft capital, or so the rumours say.

Perhaps the club will be content with our elite young talent and healthy list profile of our midfield brigade to challenge next year. We can then supplement our draft hand next year by perhaps trading currency from this draft into next years. This will hopefully hold us in good stead to target specific player needs both at the draft and trade table.

We also have two prospects in Woewodin and AMW tied to the club as f/s and nga respectively. They will hopefully come cheaply as neither are rated as first or second round picks as far as I'm aware from the released draft articles to date. Upgrade Jordon from rookie to senior list and perhaps draft a project tall ruck or key position player and that might do us for the year.

Trades to date:-

• Mabior Chol leaves Richmond, signs with Gold Coast Suns (Free Agency). Richmond gets a second round draft pick #38

• Jake Kelly leaves Adelaide, signs with Essendon (Free Agency) Adelaide gets a second round draft pick #39

• George Hewett (Restricted Free Agency) signs with Carlton after Sydney decided not to match the offer. Sydney gets a third round draft pick #44

• Gold Coast trades draft picks #22, 46, 58 and 79 and a future fourth-round pick with Collingwood for its second, third and fourth-round picks in 2022.

The late mail on today’s Continental Tyres AFL Trade Period stories -

• Out-of-contract Bulldog Lewis Young has requested a trade to Carlton after playing nine games in Luke Beveridge's side in 2021.

• Hawthorn ruckman Jonathon Ceglar is looking for a third club to call home.

• The Bulldogs have their eyes on Ceglar's teammate and free agent Tim O'Brien as defensive cover if Young leaves.

• Speculation around Peter Ladhams' future continues to be a talking point.

• The only trade deal done today was the pick swap between Collingwood and Gold Coast over a pick swap that will help the Pies secure Nick Daicos at the draft.

I reckon we'll try and trade into the first round with our future first again. Unless JT thinks we might be able to land two or three good players in that 2nd and 3rd round.

Hope so, but it'll be difficult this year.

Can't match bids within the top 20 picks so fewer sides needs points.

And winning the flag means clubs won't be as keen on our future picks.

I really hope we do trade into the first round (or at minimum upgrade our pick in the 30s to an earlier second rounder) but it'll be hard.

Subject to further trades, a bid on Daicos at pick 1 would mean pies would have to use picks 22, 36, 41, 43 and 46 to match.

The flow on affects for our picks would look like

33 -> 32

45 -> 41

57 -> 52

This would further be improved by the Bulldogs matching of a predicted early bid for Darcy. The doggies pick 17 will no doubt be traded out for multiple later picks.

Why don’t we get involved in securing that pick?

Well that was good timing....just posted from the club -

“We’ll look at every opportunity to improve our draft hand,” he said.

“We’ve been quite active in that space over the past few years, and we’ll do our best to do that again in this period.”

Just on the article above, I found this quote pretty much aligns with what @goodwindees said about adding Dunstan.

If an opportunity arises to add some experience to that midfield group, that would be our number one priority heading into this period.

“People might think we’ve got this terrific midfield, which we do, but we’re still actually quite young.

“We’re a contest-based team and we’ve got to make sure we’ve got depth in that area of the ground and competition for spots in that area.”

What a day it’s been!!!

In the space of 24 hours, Melbourne has turned the draft period on its head coming out of nowhere and landing  player who some regard having  limitations with his disposal but polled an average of close enough to one Brownlow vote per game and improving  its draft hand in another deal. The day’s done deals:-

• St Kilda midfielder Luke Dunstan has exercised his rights as an unrestricted free agent and joined Melbourne. Compensation for the Saints will depend on the details of Dunstan's contract with the Demons, which is believed to be a two-year deal.

• Greater Western Sydney forward Jeremy Finlayson has been traded to Port Adelaide in exchange for the Power's future third-round selection.

• A four-club trade involving Adelaide, Melbourne, St Kilda and the Western Bulldogs took place whereby the Demons re-enter the first round of the Draft, while the Bulldogs stock up on draft points to land father-son prospect Sam Darcy. The details -

The Crows will get the Demons' 2022 first-round selection and also gain picks 33 and 75. They will hand over picks 23, 37, 44, 62, 66 and a future fourth-round pick.

The Saints pick up selection 49 in exchange for picks 62, 66 and the Crows' future fourth-round pick.

The Bulldogs will part with picks 17 and 75 in order to attain picks 23, 44 and 45 while the Demons receive picks 17, 37 and 49 in exchange for their future first-round pick and Picks 33 and 45.

Other trade news:-

The Western Bulldogs are set to sign high-flying utility Tim O'Brien from Hawthorn.

Demons’ small forward Kade Chandler is reportedly in talks with the Adelaide Crows after the two parties met last week.

Geelong have confirmed their interest in delisted Crows forward Tyson Stengle this off-season, with the Cats among several potential suitors for the Woodville-West Torrens forward.

Completed deals during trade period

1. Jake Kelly (Adelaide) joined Essendon as an unrestricted free agent. Adelaide received pick 42 (AFL) as compensation.
2. Mabior Chol (Richmond) joined Gold Coast as an unrestricted free agent. Richmond received pick 38 (AFL) as compensation.
3. George Hewett (Sydney) joined Carlton as a restricted free agent. Sydney received pick 39 (AFL) as compensation.
4. Collingwood traded a future second-round pick, a future third-round pick and a future fourth-round pick to Gold Coast in exchange for picks 22, 46, 58, 79 and a future fourth-round pick.
5. Geelong traded Nathan Kreuger and pick 55 to Collingwood in exchange for pick 41.
6. GWS’s Jeremy Finlayson joined Port Adelaide in exchange for a future third-round draft pick.
7. Luke Dunstan (St Kilda) joins Melbourne as an unrestricted free agent.
8. Four-way pick swap. Details:
• Melbourne trade pick 45 to the Bulldogs for pick 17.
• St Kilda send 49 to Melbourne.
• Adelaide send 37 to Melbourne for 33 and a future first-rounder.
• Adelaide send 62, 66 and a future fourth-rounder to St Kilda.
• Adelaide send pick 23 and 44 to the Bulldogs for 75.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
