Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

* "I still think Freo are up to something. They're not happy losing Cerra and another young midfielder that will take three years will not appeal to them."  — Kane Cornes

* 'Nick Daicos is a great decision maker, his foot skills are excellent, and he has the ability to go forward and hit the scoreboard.'

'He's a well-rounded young man, and stood out among his peers as someone who embraced the group.' — AFL National Talent Head Coach, Tarkyn Lockyer

** BREAKING | Geelong has traded Nathan Kreuger and pick 55 to Collingwood for pick 41.

And in one fell swoop, the Cats achieved what everyone thought was impossible. They managed to increase the average ago of their list!

* "North and Richmond appear a long way apart in any deal for Callum Coleman-Jones. The Roos’ opening move to snare the 22-year-old ruck-forward saw them offer a future third-round pick, but also asked for the Tigers’ future fourth-round pick in return." — Sam Edmund

* "Adelaide and Sydney could be haggling over Jordan Dawson right up until the trade deadline on Wednesday, October 13." — Cal Twomey.

It’s all happening today and Melbourne, which everyone thought would have a quiet time of it, is in the thick of things!

* "I've never seen anything like it, how aggressive clubs have been in targeting other clubs' assistants. There's more movement going on with coaches than players!" — Matthew Lloyd after Ash Hansen, Steven King, Brad Miller, Craig Jennings & others found new clubs.

* "MELBOURNE pursued unrestricted FA Luke Dunstan, who is expected to formalise a 2-year deal today. Vandenberg & Jones retirements mean he's likely to be called upon at some stage. Had interest from Suns & another developing club, but 'play the kids' threat there saw him pick Dees" — Sam Edmund

* "I don't think the Will Brodie to Fremantle move is going to happy either."  —  Sam Edmund

[Not sure if he means "happy" or "happen" or whether it matters]

* "I think he's a chance at a rookie spot. If he's fit, he's got something to add to a side for sure."  — Matt Rendell on Aaron vandenBerg

* Deal done. Jeremy Finlayson will be a Port Adelaide player next year. The Power will give up a future third round pick.  — Sam Edmund

* "Geelong is interested, there's a number of clubs interested at the moment. I think he wants to be in Melbourne to be near Eddie Betts, who had a huge influence on him at Adelaide." — Sam Edmund on Tyson Stengle

* "I wouldn't say negotiations are as close as what us and Carlton are with Cerra at the moment. But I expect the deal to get done." — Peter Bell on the Jordan Clark deal

* DONE DEAL | Luke Dunstan has joined Melbourne as an unrestricted free agent.

* Four way deal for draft picks

• Bulldogs get picks 23, 44, 45

• Melbourne get picks 17, 37, 47

• Adelaide gets Melb future first round, 33, 75

• St Kilda gets 62, 66, Adel future fourth round — Callum Twomey

Lots happening although the effect appears to me to be underwhelming. This is because we’re not seeing any big names changing clubs, presumably because of the effect that loss of revenue as a result of Covid19 is forcing clubs to rein in their spending. Carlton continues to be the most active club in terms of players coming in with Adam Cerra the biggest name to change clubs (although do I need to point out that he only polled 1 Brownlow vote this year while a certain midfielder with initials LD who polled 11 votes from 12 games is also in the group of players with new homes).

* "Richmond have seven picks under 47, they're in an interesting phase. Do they go again or build for the future? With Tarrant coming in, I think they do a bit of both." — Matthew Lloyd

* "Will Brodie was a dominant junior who hasn't been able to go on with it. I'm really pleased for him, it's a lifeline I wasn't sure he'd get. " — Lloyd re Brodie's likely move to Fremantle

* DONE DEAL The Dockers send future second and fourth round picks to the Suns for Will Brodie, 19, 61 and 69.

* BREAKING | Adam Cerra is a Blue! Fremantle receives pick six and a future third round pick.

* DONE DEALS | Carlton has traded Sam Petrevski-Seton to West Coast for pick 52. That pick was then on-traded to the Western Bulldogs for Lewis Young — per multiple reports.
* Collingwood set to move on its pick 22. The Pies set to do a deal with Fremantle for pick 27 and a future third-rounder. That looms as a circuit-breaker for the Jordan Clark discussions — Callum Twomey

* BREAKING: "There is a lot going on between the Fremantle footy club and the GWS footy club, over a player well known to both of those clubs, that player being Rory Lobb about a potential return to the Giants." — Damian Barrett

Jeffrey Gibb Kennett’s cryptic call to Hawthorn members to essentially close their eyes and think of the club no matter what happens has struck a few nerves among the cognoscenti today. However, after yesterday’s busy day of news and activity, there have been no new done deals and, as the week comes to an end, there are no fish biting on Jeff’s line.

Today might well go down as the day of argy bargy gone wrong - it’s not a good day for state premiers (speaking politically, not about AFL premiers).

* "The haggle between Geelong and Fremantle for Jordan Clark is Pick 19 or 22. You'd think 22 should see it out and we can all move on." — Matthew Lloyd

* "People expected Luke to go to a club at the bottom of the ladder and play games, but he's backed himself. He admits he has deficiencies, but he's excited to get in there and prove people wrong." —  Robbie D'Orazio (Connors Sports) re Luke Dunstan

* "All roads for Peter Ladhams lead to Sydney. Hickey will remain the number 1 ruck, Ladhams will be the forward-ruck, and he'll bridge the age-gap between Franklin and Logan McDonald." — Sam Edmund

* "Hawthorn’s desperation to trade one of its stars for a top draft pick extends to coach Sam Mitchell ringing rival clubs himself in a bid to spark interest. Hawks getting increasingly desperate given there is so far no takers for the likes of Mitchell, O'Meara and Wingard." — Sam Edmund

* "Adelaide and Hawthorn may be locked in a fierce battle to move up the draft order to draft Finn Callaghan." — Matt Rendell

* "I think there'd be plenty of suitors in Melbourne for him."  — Steven Silvagni on Rory Lobb

* "No one said to Jeff yesterday - ‘You need to put out a letter to members,’ - he just didn't need to do it. He could've just waited until the close of the trade period, but that's the way that Jeff Kennett operates." — Damian Barrett commenting on you guessed it.

North have paid far too much for a kid who has played 9 games in 4 years. Absolutely letting Richmond have their cake and eat it to re: Chol compensation.

If I was North I would have said Tarrant & Pick 38 or we'll take Coleman-Jones in the PSD.

In what is turning out to be a lacklustre trade period, Trade Radio is struggling to come up with very much of interest at all.

* They have only two or three untouchables, that's how badly they view their own list and how aggressive they're going to be. " — Kane Cornes is expecting more to play out at Hawthorn

 * "There's a communal view of who the top group is, but the ranking of that group is in the eye of the beholder. So I wouldn't be surprised if more clubs look to move up the draft. " — Cal Twomey

* DONE DEAL | Patrick Lipinski is traded from the Bulldogs to Collingwood for pick 43.

* "They've been geniuses this trade period, they've got everything done and got the points in for Daicos." — Matt Rendell on Collingwood

* "I certainly think (Hill's trade request) is tied into the Rory Lobb stuff, same management group so there's a little bit going on behind the scenes," — Stephen Silvagni

* "It wasn't a coincidence," — Rendell

* "It seems inevitable now that North Melbourne won't bid and take Horne-Francis at one." — Damian Barrett

Ho, hum …

* "Adelaide, Carlton, Collingwood, Fremantle, Melbourne and North are the only teams so far that have improved their list and outlook for 2022." — Kane Cornes

* "Watch this space on the Hawks, they are trying to get things done too" — Matthew Lloyd

* "I like the combination of Lycett and Ladhams, I was surprised when Port Adelaide suggested he look elsewhere." —

Adam Cooney

* The Length of the Trade Period: "There is no perfect length. No matter whether it is one week or three, things can get left until the last minute. I do think a slightly longer period than a week is necessary to allow the dominoes to start falling. At the end of the day you’ll always be going to the final bell. It goes in cycles. Some years where there are big names on the market and others where there aren’t. You have big names under contract trying to move and other times you have wanting to move big names out.  It does go in cycles". — AFL Players Association stakeholder relations general manager Brett Murphy

So they are geniuses for getting enough picks for a father son and trading for Nathan Kreuger and Patrick Lipinski, two fringe players?

Seriously Rendell is a complete [censored] and it makes me angry he gets paid for this dribble when people in Melbourne have lost their jobs due to Covid.

Also completely glosses over the fact they traded out pick 2. With North now likely not to bid on Daicos, they could have used it to choose another player before a Daicos bid which in turn would have required even less points to match.

I get that's more of a 2021 onfield performance issue and they would have been expecting to finish much higher, but any other club would be crucified for that deal coming back to bite them. "Geniuses" lol.

There’s more to come but can you pick the ODD SPOT?

* "You've got the best coach in Australian being paid $900,000 to have a holiday in America before he comes home and coaches another team. I can't get my head around how Hawthorn have fallen apart like this" — Kane Cornes re Alastair Clarkson

* DONE DEAL | The deal to make Jordan Dawson a Crow has been lodged, with the Swans receiving Melbourne's future 1st round pick. — Daniel Cherny

* "Just like their interest in Chad Wingard, Greater Western Sydney has explored interest in Luke Breust over the last day. Would similarly have been willing to use pick 13 in a deal, but like Wingard, Breust has been reluctant to move from Hawks." — Cal Twomey

* "I can't see it happening at the moment, I think there's too much difference in the valuation from North Melbourne and St Kilda."  — Riley Beveridge on the Tristan Xerri

I have no idea why the media is doing it but every time there’s reference made to the future first round pick Melbourne traded to get selection 17 in this year’s draft is always referred to as “Melbourne’s” whereas other traded future are almost never discussed with reference to the club the pick in question came from. Is this an indication that supporters of other clubs are in awe of us?

I think it is being done to give a reference point, to allow a reasoned guess as to what actual pick might eventuate from it.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
