Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

3 goals in 32 seconds - the quickest 3 goals ever?

Lou C. Fur

Has been mentioned in a previous thread but are the three successive Demon goals kicked in the last minute of the 3rd quarter:

00:51 Petracca

00:34 Sparrow

00:19 Oliver

Are these the quickest 3 goals in succession ever?

Just thinking the same thing. Watching the replay you think how could this happen? But it did.

Sometimes we can have 2 goals in 20 seconds when a goal scorer is flattened after kicking a goal. But this case was without umpire interference i.e. no free kicks involved. Has to be a record for a GF surely.

Both Kate Roffey and Trac have referenced the one goal a minute rule proliferated by Lee Mathews. He has said a few times he only felt comfortable as a coach (in the last few minutes) when there were less minutes available than the goals lead. I'm certain the Dogs players would have been looking at the clock in the 3rd and thinking, minute to go only down by 6pts. Lets go to the qtr time break and reset for the final qtr ...... BANG!!!  WTF?

Hugely demoralizing moment.

I can't think of 3 goals happening quicker than that.

We also kicked 3 goals in 1:38 or so in the third so I wonder if that would be up there in quickest 3 goals as well

I looked at this too! 2 of the goals were set shots with the players taking the full 30 seconds (especially BBrown) if I recall correctly (might need to double check actually… so many goals!). So, taking out the run ups (which, yes nobody really does) we scored 3 goals in under 40 seconds twice, in the same quarter, in a Grand Final.

I still can’t really believe that happened!

Just watched the replay of that minute for the 50th time.
After Clarry kicks his, when they pan onto Bontempelli and the bulldogs midfield group when they're headed back to the circle you can see in their body language they're beaten right there.
Bontempelli's doing the sums on the scoreboard and can't believe it.

I noticed Bontempelli's look of despair then too. A stark contrast to the look in Petracca's eye after he dobbed that classic banana dribbler!

Doesn't really matter if the timing's accurate or not. This game is already going into footy folklore for the MIGHTY DEMONS kicking 3 goals in a minute, twice in one quarter, in a GRAND FINAL.

It won't go down as one of the great GFs, but it will be ever memorable for the overwhelming blitzkrieg avalanche of devastation rained on the Dogs to blow them off the park. Can expect to see the 3rd quarter in future pre-GF "footy marathons".

GO DEMONS!!!!

There literally wasn’t any middle ground during the blitz. We’ve gone form 19 down and most thinking we’ve missed an opportunity to all of a sudden being 4 goals up at the last break. No time for biting nails and heart attacks. Extraordinary finish to a quarter.

As far as I can gather the fastest ever individual goal from a center bounce was 6 seconds when Riewoldt was awarded a 50m prior to the first bounce!

The instant and completely uninterrupted breakaway goals from a center bounce seem to range around 9 to 15 seconds. I assume that it has happened before at some point but even so, it would require both to be right at the pointy end of that scale when you consider there is always a couple of seconds after a goal before the all-clear and time stopping.

If there have been faster runs of three goals, it could only be by a few seconds.

With another odd goalkicking record in mind now - Tom McDonald must be the first person ever to kick a goal after the siren in a grand final from 45 meters out while 15 other guys were in a dry-humping pile about 5 meters to his left!

“They had about 16 stoppage goals, which is probably a record,” Hunter said.

“They [the clearances] did come out of the front a lot in the centre bounce. Even if you do lose the centre bounce, if you are able to force them back or wide, then that clearance probably doesn’t land at the top of the goal square. It is a lot easier to defend.

“Max Gawn probably grabbed it out of the ruck a fair few times which pretty much neutralises any of the midfielders and gets it going their way. As much as we can stop that, it will be good.” - Lachie Hunter, September 22.

Yikes.

Hunter is a grub. Happy he played a poor game. When he dropped the ball on the wing in the last quarter I literally lol’ed.

In that last 50 seconds of the 3rd quarter, we saw 2 of the best handballs ever by Demons that led to goals.

Viney falling over, handballs under enormous pressure to Tracc and the other, Jacko on the run, puts it in front of Clarry, running at full pace, who doesn’t need to break stride, for a brilliant goal on the run.

I will never forget those 2 handballs which in a big way helped win us a flag.

Agree Red, Jackson’s handball past Caleb Daniel to Oliver was just poetry.

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
