Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Two things about the Caleb Daniel/Max Gawn matter.

Full credit to the much-maligned Brian Taylor for the "Daniel and Goliath" line.

Secondly, imagine it the other way around. Not only would it remind everyone of a St Kilda post season party, but Daniel might have ended up 10 rows back in the grandstand.

Max played it up a bit but the tackle certainly went on. Not sure it really played a role.

But Viney hit the next stoppage hard, forced the ball our way. Bailey Smith fumbled it to Harmes and the rest was history.

The tackle wasn't looked at by MRP. Max had serious momentum which contributed. Daniel not largely responsible.

But the stand over image will be his shame for his career. It will always come up somewhere and be detrimental.

Not once ( I think) did any Dees player behave that way, even after the floodgates opened.

The best was Fritsch in this regard. he just stuck to nailing his opportunities and ignored his opponents.

Underrated comment.

Kozzie had a good word in the face of one of the dogs in the first after they got a too high call.

Has the MRO findings been released ? Havent seen it anywhere. I thought  max exaggerated but thought could be a fine minimum for the high hit on Oliver (Bont) ?

Yep - the Harmes steal was for me THE MOMENT. Magical.

Just reviewing things with 49 seconds to go we are one goal up.

Trac gets the dribbler - two goals up.

Sparrow the bomb off one step from outside 50. 3 goals up

Oliver on the run

Bang 4 goals up

The signs were there that we had the run - Langdon and Brayshaw on the outside, ANB and Brown in the middle

Daniel's grubber later resulted in Brayshaw marking the kick from Bowey.

How deflating for the dogs and inspirational for the Dees to go into the 3 quarter huddle after bangin on 3 in quick succession

I absolutely love watching this bit of footage. It tells so many stories:

  1. The complete flop by Alex Keath
  2. The non-effort from Tim English
  3. The non-effort from Easton Wood
  4. The crushing bump by Kossie
  5. Trac with the skill to slot it

This is where Burgo-time had kicked in. Dogs gave it all in the second and then our elite fitness kicked in.

Better seen here at 29:50 with additional replays

The perfect kick to a lovely Fritsch lead changed the momentum of the game in an instant.

Maybe it was always going to flick our way at some stage. We’d burned some chances (namely Harmes himself) and the Dogs had a run of things working out for them.

There was something to the perceived pressure that caused the Smith fumble. Viney came through hard. We’d hit hard for most of the night and we had a lot of their options covered.

We were the only side to chop down the Dogs midfield handball game for long periods all year. And we could exploit maximum damage when we did so.

Yes the Bont one hip to Olivers head was looked at and I am sure it won't surprise anyone there was no case to answer.

Apparently some in the AFL get special treatment

The Daniel one not even looked at.

I was in the cheer squad and there was a lady in the front row in her breast cancer melbourne guernsey after Bont had kicked his 3rd that turned around and said the next goal we get go absolutely mad and don't stop.

Fritsch kicks a set shot that seems uneventful comparatively to what happens next, but if you were in our end we didn't stop chanting melbourne until basically 3qtr time because the boys lifted of the noise.

May even smiled when he was walking back after one of the goals because we didn't shut up for 7-8 minutes by that point.

I'm sitting here listening to the Triple MMM call and Petracca just kicked THAT goal late I'm the third, and the awe and respect in Jason Dunstall's voice has me in tears again. It was our fifth in a row, it took the lead out to two goals and was proceeded by 30 more seconds of brilliance, and I can't help but feel that that was the moment. The next two goals broke the Dogs Petracca's goal was the turning point.

It looked to me like Maxy was trying to milk a free. And i wonder if that was what Daniels was saying. No big deal.

What was impressive is Max gets up, having given himself a head knock. Jackson takes the boundary line throw in.

Brian Taylor, having made a legitimately clever and funny comment with his Daniel and Goliath quip, instantly reverts to form and says Maxy is coming off for a rest.

But maxy isn't coming off for a rest.

He is running down the wing towards our half forward. Which is interesting in itself given we were three goals down,  because he was looking to create a marking option should we win the clearance, as opposed to pushing into defence to intercept a dog's inside 50 kick if they win the clearance. Tells me a lot about their mind set - expect to win the clearance, be aggressive.

And we did win the clearance and the hack kick forward (which is hard wired into our game plan dna) was heading straight to Williams, who was poised to take an easy intercept mark, until an exhausted maxy did enough to spoil and bring it to ground.

The ball gets over the  boundary line. Jackson takes the ruck. Viney hits the contest at speed. Bailey ('when i was at school i aspired to grow a mullet') Smith fumbles under the heat. Harmes collects and puts a beautifully weighted kick in front of Fritter. Fritter marks and kicks the goal. We don't look back.

That goal doesn't happen if Williams marks that ball.

Thanks Binman for your analysis during the year on the Demonland podcast, very sound, particularly when I might be tempted to have a MFCSS moment. I am still working through the GF podcast, but your analysis is again very informative, on the “turning point”, which was really after half time, then 3rd quarter resumption of pressure and behind the ball contest. No wonder you get frustrated with the “commentators”. I also think it is amazing how the team’s execution of the process got better and better during the season, culminating in the finals series.

How does one “play up” having their head slammed in to the turf in a sling tackle? He must have drawn the graze that was visible for the rest of the game on his forehead on with a red sharpie.

Bewildering not to be called as a dangerous tackle.

Agreed, you can see Gawn lost his footing too he wasn’t diving.

I want to suggest that Fritta's 4th goal (his 2nd one in the third Q where he flew for the mark and scored after keeping his feet) was the one that got us believing - and perhaps the one I was most excited about.

The first goal was "OK, good, were still in it if we stay disciplined"

The second was "game on" - and at that point my despair disappeared.

The rest was crazy better than I could have imagined, but after 2 goals in 30 seconds I believed again.

Yep, this is the one that got me off the couch and fist pumping down the hallway!

The degree of difficulty was immense but Fritta made it look easy. How he can fly onto Wood and Max's shoulders, land on his feet, off balance gather the ball one handed and put it through I'm still in awe of.

Yep. I really don't get the 'people' who claim Max did a Hollywood. I guess it typifies the human species: you can see or read into any photo, text, or scenario or situation what your proclivities and prejudices have cornered you into. In this case, Gawn's head bounced off the floor. WTF???? It was more than a dangerous tackle. Then the pathetic gobbing off by the dwarf Daniels. Talk about the Erinyes striking back.

The first shot is Trac after scoring his 'Daicos' goal with 1 min to go in the 3rd.  My God he looks determined, even angry. The crowd is going nuts but he knows the job isn't finished.

30 seconds of play later we see the look on Bont's face - total dejection after Clarry hits the third goal i 30 seconds for the Dees.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
