Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Think you may be missing the point.

we acknowledge that Petty is likely a better defender than Tomlinson.

But Petty potentially has more flexibility to be able to play both back and forward, where as Tomlinson is likely to be significantly better as a backman vs other positions.

ie not saying Petty will be a better forward than back :- just saying Petty forward may be best for the team sometime in the future.

Hence at some stage, if Tomlinson gets back to his best, the club will most likely trial Petty as a forward :- even if it’s just as a backup, or as knowledge that they can pull that move to gain a match-up advantage.

Don’t stress yourself out :- we are talking about a great problem to have, re flexibility and optimising team balance.

As for me Petty might not be better. But given his talent he might be good there. I just think its great to have options and explore ideas. Remember the injuries we had in 2019?

Petty may well be a better defender and if it aint broke........but Tmac has shown some history of changing form and Weid is not a proven forward. Even if hes only needed as a stop gap its worth knowing he could do it. But yea as it stands I would prefer Petty down back over Tomlinson. Footy is a harsh mistress.

Thank you both for elaborating on your points, I couldn't see Petty working at all forward so thats why I was seeking more from you. Definitely got nothing to stress about, (other than whatever injuries we cop in 2022) :)

He has played some vfl forward, and a handful of his early AFL games were as a forward.

showed promise. Natural leading patterns, and could take a mark :- even though he was pretty skinny back then.

I shouldn't be surprised by now, but I still shake my head at what others find as great commentary.

That was so cringeworthy I can't even look at the screen due to embarrassment for the caller.

And that bloody "bang bang bang" Grrrrrrrrrrrr

Can’t wait to watch it again when the DVD comes. We were the only Victorian team that had no premiership DVD. Now we have one in glorious colour.
I remember when the grand final videos  were released in 1996 (some people might remember them with the Barassi sticker “watch ‘em when you WANT to.”) I was dismayed to find there was nothing for the 1964 grand final. There was even the 1961 one, but there was no more until 1966. A while later, they rediscovered the 1965 one. I was hopeful that 1964 would be rediscovered too. Alas, it never happened. I was so jealous of Saints having their 1966 one (in great condition too.) Now I know they’re jealous of us having a recent one (and an AFL one.) I’m going to treasure this DVD for years to come.

Have the HUN's premiers sticker on the SUV but I have carefully cut off all reference of the HUN. Haha. A car had a brilliant sticker on High Street so will hunt that one down and ditch the HUN one. When our beloved leader allows shops to open I shall get to the MCG Demon shop and buy up. Prefer the club to get my money.

I love Bts form where he leaves comments half finished....."and the Melbourne fans are going absolutely".

Didn't mind the bang bang but only because I was so caught up in the emotion.

Wasn't there one bang to many or was the fourth a metaphor for the flag?

Probably not.

Why oh why would either of you want to take a 21 year old premiership defender out of his position he held down for 19 games and an entire finals series with no problems?

It's Tomlinsons problem now to try and break into a premiership side

One million percent.

I said before his first game in for Tomlinson that we would lose nothing with petty, and perhaps might even be better off.

And predicted he will be a future AA defender.

Nothing I saw since replacing has led me to doubt those predictions.

Not sure where that leaves Tomlinson. But an advantage he has is his versatility

Probably not.

Brian Taylor is in the top echelon of the worst commentators in the history of the game, with Rex Hunt, and Kellie Underwood.

And please don't wind me up with Brayshaws "bang" call. It really does my head in. The combo of his horrible voice coupled with the inability to think of something good to say. My head hurts.

Have a listen from around 1hr36min of this. The commentator who calls the Oliver goal is a life long Melbourne supporter. You can feel the emotion in his call. Brilliant.

Also listen to his call of the final minute or so, almost cheering his team on to a flag.

I understand that but Petty has always been a defender and IMO he is on par with Tomlinson. Tomlinson only lost 1 one on one and that was against the Cats after May went down with a fractured eye socket

Our forward line only really clicked in the last four weeks and is pretty damn potent with Fritsch, Brown, McDonald, Spargo, Neal Bullen and Kozzie with Jackson coming off the bench.
Who would Petty replace if playing there?

Our backline has Lever, May, Petty, Salem, Hibberd and Bowey with Rivers coming off the bench.
Who would/should Tomlinson replace?

Im curious as to what makes either of you think Petty would show more potential as a forward?

Hibberd

Each team, even premiers, has personnel changes each year. We don't know what the future holds -- maybe TMac is displaced by Petty and has to force his way back in, maybe Brown gets a sore knee -- but as long as there is competition for places, complacency won't creep in.

GO DEMONS!!!

I'm amazed that every one of the 23 that played on the big day are back next year.

I still haven't seen it, but sounds like the Bulldogs went off half cocked after they beat us in that final home and away game.  Like that we kept our powder dry until we'd won the one that counts and while I it's a fine line and I don't want us to get a reputation as cocky and arrogant, I feel the Dogs had this coming and like that we are hitting back a bit.

Could make for an even more spiteful rivalry with them in the years ahead, perhaps similar to the Geelong, Hawthorn one of a few years back.

Watched the replay of that recently. Aside from the 24  to 11 frees in dogs favor we were not that bad. But boy did the umps give footscray an easy run. I think dogs actually train for high tackle frees and they certainly dont get pinged enough for throwing the ball. Maybe it lulled the doggies into a false sense of security. The dogs probably were the 2nd best team this year and they lost a few key players with injuries. But they also got a good ride in the lions final and were very lucky to just win that one. I'm so glad the umpires didnt spoil the granny for us. So looking forward to playing them again as well as Geelong. It was strange that the dogs were heralded as having the best midfield about because ours smashed them. Same with the touted cats forward line. I hope the free differential next year is much more even as I think it really carried the dogs a long way. Same with cats home adavantage which is why they are exposed come finals. Anyway, ive had my rant. Cheers.

I don't want to be known for advocating violence, but i would not be sad to see someone snot Libba. Detestable cretin.

Would be confident that he was at the centre of any stand-off between the two groups if it actually occurred.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
