Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

A question.

Our first goal, tracc's 60 metre bullet of NO steps.

I can't for the life of me work out if he marked that ball or got in the half volley.

To the naked eye, and even on replay, he marks it. At least to my doddgy eyes.

If he marked it, remarkable that he chose to immediately play on and go for goal, given the distance, the fact he didn't have any run up and also had to kick over a dogs players (well around him sort of).

He didn't give the umpire any chance to blow the whistle to indicate mark, such was the speed he got it to boot.

But i have read suggestions it was a half volley. If so, incredible presence of mind to immediately kick it.

Either way, a truly remarkable goal that has sot of been lost in the tidal wave of crazy good goals in the third and last quarter.

Mark or half volley?

i did see another angle on video, but can't remember where, but on that video it did look like a half volley was a possibility.

another possibility is that it was touched off salem's boot but i've seen no discussion of that possibility

i had the same thought processes you had.........wonderful goal

For a change of pace I watched the prelim final. We came 1 point short of tripling their score.

1 thing in common with GF was Goody crying on the boundary line.

@CHF (c.c. @Jontee)

I missed it originally (you leave Demonland for half a day and this thread is half a dozen pages closer to 2022...) so belated thanks for your observations about the 'bottom (hah!) six'. We have such a Team!

5 mins to go in the 3rd quarter replay. Kozzie stiff not to get a high tackle, Harmes equally stiff just prior. Also, I wouldn’t have paid the mark to JJ over Bowey, Bont clearly touches the ball first.

Well the standard was better than the last time we played them.

Off a step it powered all the way home. Sparrows kick was pretty similar. Both very strong players.

I thought the umpiring was very good on the night, happened to be watching the replay when i posted and was only channeling a game-day thread.

I was just thinking about our song, and how after a win, within a second or two of the siren sounding, it plays. Be it a close one or a blowout, that moment never fails to give me goosebumps. Oftentimes I’ve tried to imagine what it would be like to experience that in the final match of the year. Don’t have to imagine any longer. And I gotta say it’s way sweeter than I ever had imagined. ❤️💙

That Kozzie spoil - to enable the split-second Petracca decision to line-'em up - was just fantastic teamwork providing the Trac possession to be converted into 6 lovely points. He got the bloke square-on, obviously sick to death of this Doggy's attempts to hurt Demon players right across the match after being beaten in marks, handballs and front positions. Farnknuckling by Kozzie, at its best.

Pickett also tackled and dispossessed Weightman to enable Bowey to get the turnover and pass it to Brayshaw for his lead changing goal. He also harassed  the Bulldog players to force a turnover for Spargo’s goal.Three very important efforts that directly turned into goals. Never got much ball himself but was always in the thick of the forward line action.

Anyone that suggests Gawn played for or milked the Daniel sling tackle is a fool.

Gawn simply lost his footing and with the momentum he had he was always going to fall.

Yes, and l understand the comment from Daniel while standing over him after he slammed Max’s head into the concrete turf was “get up you girl!” Wonder what the follow-up was at the end of the match….

@binman, @daisycutter@John Crow Batty, et al,

Just watched Haymes's 'All Of The Melbourne Goals' again (just 'cos we can, can't we?!)

I'm now calling 'Mark'. Split-second thinker that he is, I reckon he turned and saw the then empty goal square, knew he had momentum in the right direction, looping around on his right, and knew he could at least bounce it through. (As to the possibility of 'touched', the Dogs player 5m from Salem certainly was trying, with an arm upwardly very outstretched, but the lack of umpire and Ch.7 response is telling)

And on his other goal (re my query on behind-the-goals vision of it) I see now that he turns away from the kick and to the crowd before it's even half way to the (dead centre of!) the goals. Maybe a glance over the shoulder but, wow...

Finally (yeah, right...) I've thought Bowey's kick* to Brayshaw was doubtfully 15m but I've come to realise that might have been the case as the kick was released but, during the camera angle change, Angus made, then dived, a good extra 5m. Ditto, wow...

(*Also, I've been thinking Bowey's was another of the shortfall kicks in that passage; I reckon he was trying to spot up the mismatch between Brown and Daniel just past where Angus marked?)

Was thinking the same but Bowey made the common mistake of thinking that our older forwards are much quicker than they are.  Not only did Angus save the day but he kicked the goal!!!

Another 'sliding doors' moment: Had it reached Brown, would he have converted, from the tighter angle? With the benefit of (much-rehearsed!) hindsight, Angus was never going to miss. While Ben...

Re the umpires: I agree they were relatively benign. I will never understand, however, how blokes like Liberatore get away with blatant throws each and every time they dispose by hand.

Also, a snippet picked up today from an interview of Neville Jetta on SEN, by the mighty Durrwayne and the King of contradictions.

Neville said that apparently The Club took a dim view of Kozzie'a absence in January when his mother died. He said that he, the Fabulous Wrecker Whelan and Steven May convinced the club to let Kozzie take the time he needed. He said that if they hadn't they would possibly have lost Kozzie, that  by taking their advice, the club won Kozzies's heart.

My favorite part about that goal is the hand symbol (which i assume is what you are referring to here?) Captain jack makes as he is being swamped.

I think that is their symbol for blitz mode.

Binny, I like the view of that goal from down the ground. As Sparrow receives the perfect handball form Oliver there are 4 dogs that look to converge on him from the 4 points of the compass. One step. Bang! Too late she cried.

Snap, Brother! (see my post on the '3 goals in 32 seconds - the quickest 3 goals ever?' thread in Week One of our 'Bran Nu Dae' (aka 28/9)). As I incorrectly observed then, it was 'a beautiful tableaux', which I now correct to 'tableau'. Mind you, 25/9 held 'beautiful tableaux' aplenty!

Not thst each of the third quarter goals is seared in my memory or anything - but speaking of the Oliver handball, a weird part of that goal was Daniels went towards Oliver, but Oliver released it before he got there. Instead of turning and following the ball, Daniels elected to continue on bump Oliver, though with no force. It looked like he was sheparding oliver.

Instructive because, either he wasn't desperate to track the ball, or he wanted it to look like he was competing still or he was completely rattled.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
