Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

1 minute to go in the 3rd we’re 1 goal in front… f k me we just exploded.

Darren Burgess is going to be a massive loss for us, thank you DB it must have been very hard away for your kids for so long.

Christian Salem was immense in the first qrt/first half, he’s a sly superstar.

We must do everything we can to keep the “Rithing Thtar” in Jackson. https://carltondrafttshirts.com/products/rithing-thtar-black-jumper-front-center?_pos=3&_sid=1c382ea41&_ss=r

We have so much improvement still to come, the age profile is almost perfect.

Let's reflect on the history of how the Demons got here.

2013: Nadir land. Rock Bottom. Afl intervention. Enter Roos and Jackson. Roos appoints Goodwin as his second in command.

2014: Finish 17th. Four wins. Enter Christian Salem.

2015: Finish 13th. 7 wins. Enter Brayshaw, Petracca looming, due to ACL.

2016:Finish 11th. 10 Wins. Enter Oliver.

2017:  Finish 9th. 12 wins.

2018: Finish 5th. 14 wins, win 2 finals. Enter Petty, Spargo.

2019: Finish 17th.  5 wins. Back to Square One. many injuries. May enters, Lever has recovered.

2020: Finish 9th, a bee's bick separating them from 8th. Win 9 out of 17. Enter Jackson and Rivers.

2021: There you have it. Finish 1st. Lose 4 games in a 26 game season, draw one. Apparently 8 players under 21, according to AFL's Nat Edwards.

During the process, core players in the Resurrection came and went: Cross, Vince, Dawes, Lewis, Tyson, Bugg, Frost, Garlett - he was fantastic - and once bit players like Jetta and Pederson, injured cogs like Vandenburg, made important contributions. As did Kennedy Harris, Wiedemann, the MacDonald brothers, Matt Jones, and all the players too many to mention, players like Melksham, the big gutsy improvers like Neale Bullen, and the very new additions like Pickett.

Then there are the recruiters, the genius selections of the crew led by Angus Taylor.

Then there are the coaches, too many to mention, all of them who have made serious contributions, especially  Choco, Richardson, Yze, McCartney and all the others...

Most importantly, the Fitness genius, Daren Burgess, ex Soccer, ex Adelaide, the guy who kept May in the dark about the seriousness of his injury, the man who made Melbourne the fittest and most resilient side in the competition.

And, most importantly, to the captains Gawn, Viney and Jones, who worked out that you don't win nothin if you don't walk the walk.

And, even more importantly, to Simon Goodwin, whose life has been a journey of hiccups, discovery and the search for wisdom.

I take my hat off in total gratitude to these people who yesterday made me so proud to be a Melbourne supporter since the age of eight when I watched them lose the grand final on my grandmother's Television in North Sunshine in 1958.

Just watch the replay (again) now, and Daisy is an absolute godsend as a commentator. She gives insight into the game that is so far above that of her contemporaries, and that makes the watching it on TV infinitely better.

That is the one person i missed, kudos to the heathens in BT and Brayshaw who, as others have mentioned, deferred to her often and towards the end asked her how she was going as it was her club… she’s said it’s not my club it’s Garry Lyon etc club. She was brilliant and long may she keep gracing the field and airwaves.

I highly recommend watching the replay over the live recording. Ad free. Check out the look in Petracca's eyes after he kicks that dribbler near the end of the third. He looks like he could run through a brick wall and rip the head off a buffalo. Channel 7 cuts to an ad and you completely miss it

The raging bull indeed. Ferdinand!

Just a quick post match review comment.

I'm hoping the dees came back from the dead narrative does not take hold, as I fear it might.

I loved daisy's work, brilliant. And kudos to 7 for giving her much more air time. And even credit to bt for deferring to her often.

But I think she got it wrong in the third declaring we were looking shakey and desperately needed a goal just for confidence.

We had a poor second quarter. The simple reason why was that they smashed us in contested ball. It was not surprising they lifted their rating but it was really surprising we dropped off. And they were clearly on top.

But despite them getting the first goal in the third (early) we were matching them in contested ball and had clearly got the game back into the shape we like it to look like. It was back to  contest to contest. We had stopped their transition game. And stopped them flicking it around. And stopped allowing unpressured kicks by the like of daniels. We were back grinding.

And 3 goals is nothing for a team that had proven its ability all season to score super quickly and multiplegoals in bursts.. We had done exactly that in our previous three games for Pete's sakes. Against quality opposition. Wasn't anyone watching?

We were by far the most potent team over the last part of the season, having averaged 100.5 points in our previous 6 games (that average has jumped up to 106!).

Of course I was nervous half way though the third. But I thought all of the above watching live. And my thoughts were reinforced when watching the replay.

And good lord. When we lifted our rating, when we did flex, it was incredible. They simply could not go with us. No team could.

When Bont kicked that goal to put them 19 up I was worried. They seemed to be beating us in ground ball all over the field and had kicked 8 of the last 9 goals. Our small forwards seemed unsighted and we looked fumbly. I look forward to listening to your analysis on the podcast and rewatching the replay with this in mind.

To Deeoldfart and Dante, their generosity allowed a group of us to attend what was a stunning, emotional and historical event and was something so very special and will be cherished by us for the rest of our Dee loving lives. Thank you.

It’s been a tremendous few weeks attending whatever we could re MFC starting with that magnificent Preliminary Final. We’ve attended closed and open sessions and those weeks have culminated in the penultimate, an MFC Premiership and it was incredible! The celebrations in the City today with the boys, the cup, and staff was well attended and fun. Goody has already set his sights on the preseason and continued improvement. We have held the baton here for a brief, necessary and ultimately glorious period. I’m sure all Demons are happy with our efforts but the baton returns to its rightful place now and we sincerely look forward to seeing Melbournians in particular experiencing it too.

 Go you magnificent Demons.

What happened for us to get back in the game? We went from dumbly and nervous to freakish monsters in a breath.

did we do anything structurally? Or did we just wrestle the game back from the middle and forward.

I haven’t been able to figure out if we did anything watching the replay. It seems like we just stepped it up again. Started winning the contest again etc

So proud today, so proud to be part of this great club.

What a game!

The 3 goals in two minutes to finish the 3rd qtr was pure magic!

Rewatched the second half this morning over bacon and eggs and a recovery smoothie.

Just from watching some of the goals on various social media posts the 1%’s become so much more apparent. Two that come to mind are was Sparrow hand balling to Salem then going on to shepherd Treloar as Salem kicks to Trac who kicks the opening goal, TMac jostling with Keath (?) on the goal line as Sparrows kicks from just on 50 in the dying moments of the 3rd.

I’ve got the week off so definitely going to sit down and watch the replay in full again. I love footy so much and last night was testament as to why.

Such a surreal feeling knowing that we are the 2021 Premiers!

❤️💙🏆

Track’s goal crossed the line at 51 seconds to go, Sparrow at 34 seconds and the third from Oliver was at the 19 second mark. 32 seconds?!?! Mental.

Just an observation but every interview that I have seen with Christian Petracca he has had the Norm Smith tucked away. Only the Premiership medal on display. Wants it to be about the team not about him. Thats my take on it and I like it.

Interesting, I did notice him tuck it away as soon as he stepped off the stage after accepting it, nice pick up Mr S!

Didn't want to take away from the result at the time, but personally need to give a huge thank you to @Dante. The extra priority tickets allowed me to take my parents with me to the game. And I'm so glad my mum was there for when I started crying. Thank you so much, mate.

Getting closer to 24 hours on, moving from shock to ecstasy to relief to disbelief and back again, the overwhelming emotion now is pride.

Pride in how our players went about it. Pride in everyone behind the scenes.

And pride in our supporters for how we've shown our true colours in these strange but joyous circumstances: loyalty, resilience, generosity, empathy and respect. I look forward to getting out and about more in the coming months and chatting with EVERY SINGLE DEMON I come across about this famous victory. Despite the social distance I've never felt more connected to other Demons than in the past few weeks, even before this incredible result. That's a credit to everyone here and across social media and offline as well. The random car honks, wild waving, shouts of 'Go Dees' have been wonderful surprises in my relatively non-football following area.

Special shout-out to our WA fans. You've been so classy about all this. I'll always hold a special place in my heart for all of you and the way you flew the flag for us all this last month. Perth will always be a slice of home for all Demons from now on. I hope that in future exciting times we can take care of all of you over there in the way you've looked after us east coasters and beyond this year.

And talk about leadership - Gawn was told to go back in the ruck during this period and said no, Jacko is on fire.
So selfless

Petracca also said on the footy show the players were told to slow it down and run down the clock and the midfield group all thought "f that, we're on fire let's see if we can get a couple more"

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
