Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Why Jayden Hunt must be the sub

I would prefer a fit Hunt to Hibbo.

His run and carry off the hbf could be of great benefit in a GF. He is also a long kick and can snag a goal if moved forward.

Hibbo can fumble badly and those left foot sliding kicks often go to the opposition.

Hibbo is probably a better lockdown defender but I would rather Hunt if he is fit. He was very good for us before the injury.

He just offers more than Hibbo.

I like hibbo in the side. Workmanlike defender.

Gives us some options - Salem and Bowey provide upgrades on Hunt IMO

Hunt wont be the sub. He will either be in for Hibbert or miss.

Tend to agree; I think JJ covers more bases than Hunt which makes him a more flexible candidate for medi-sub; if they think Hunt is ready he’ll be in the actual 22 to do his usual specific role.

I disagree that JJ is more flexible, he can cover the midfield and perhaps a small forward role, but if a defender goes down then we’re left scrambling for cover. At least Hunt has had experience in almost all facets of the ground (bar ruckman, and inside mid).

I think JJ will be the sub, I’m not against it as he has done well this year, I just personally would prefer Hunt.

Spent quite a lot of his first year at Casey at half back, so wouldn’t be out of place in the unhoped-for scenario of a back going down.

The sub rule will be exploited, if not used.

With them and us going in with players under a cloud the exploitation of the sub may not even be an issue.

I suspect the sub will be used legitimately.

So, who is the best choice?

I think Hunt would give us more coverage...but wouldn't be disappointed either way.

JJ would be stiff to miss.

The wildcard could be Melk...

Some have called for Smith but that is too big a risk if May is in.

I'd be shocked if the rule ISN't exploited.

It would be dead easy.

My brother passed onto me (not sure how accurate this is) that Hunt had a quiet game in the practice match last week. With that in mind I can’t see Hunt as the sub. Sad for him, he’s had a good year. I don’t think anyone expected to take his spot and literally run with it so well.

Exactly why he should not be in the team! We dont need "Workmanlike defenders" we need pace, run and carry to match Dishkickers on the spread. Hunt just has to be in somewhere even 23rd man! Huge error if he is not in.😬

We also need lock down defenders which Hibbo is better at than Hunt.
Hunt essentially lost his spot to Bowey not to Hibbo. Him and Hibbo played together for most of the year. They are different players.
Hibbo locks it down. Hunt opens it up.
Dogs have really good small forwards. Hibbo is there to shut them down.
For me the decision would have been

Hibbo vs Smith - Right call to go with Hibbo. No hamstring worries, better defensively, proven over a long time, experienced calm head

Bowey vs Hunt- A very tough choice. Hunt gets more of it and is faster. Bowey uses it a lot better. Ball use against the Dogs is very very important.

The sub call has to come down to who can best serve us in different roles. JJ played inside mid, wing and half forward this year. Hunt has played half back exclusively. I think they go JJ for versatility, unless they’re worried about May.
However I suggest if May goes down early we put Gawn down back to help, or push Tmac back. That will then probably see us shuffle the decks and put Trac forward for longer, making JJ a good sub option as the extra mid rotation.

If Hunt was quiet in the practice match, they have obviously decided missing so much footy has affected his game and that was that. I said I wanted “a fit “ Hunt in, but that includes “match fit” and he obviously isn’t.

Hibbo needs to lock down a forward like he did on Cameron. That will be a win for us.

Go Dees and just win.

I agree with this regarding Hibberd v Smith and Hunt v Bowey. With respect to the Hibberd v Smith choice, I suspect Schache playing is the reason Smith isn't. If Schache (or another player in his stead) was considered to be a genuine tall forward target, rather than a defensive forward, Smith (assuming fit) might have got the nod because of his height and spring.

As to the Jordon v Hunt choice, I would choose Hunt. If a midfielder needs to be replaced, Brayshaw can do that and Hunt can go to the wing. Hunt can also play back or forward if required. Having said that, Jordon is no slouch and I'll be more than happy with him as the sub.

Hibbo has shown that he has a qualities that will be invaluable come tomorrow night.

Desperation and fierce determination.

You just know that he will launch himself into every contest even at the risk of getting hurt, and that's the stuff that wins the big games.

I’d be flabbergasted if Jordon isn’t sub tomorrow. Our selections have been predictable and conservative all year, and having no injuries have helped.

From a sentimental point of view I’d be taking Hunt over JJ but the club has rightly thrown romanticism  out the window, as per Jones returning home.

thanks in some way to a golden run with injury

we need to make the most of this opportunity

to bring it back to the topic, it's a shame that hunt misses out - he's one of two players (tomlinson being the other) who were key parts of the journey to get where we are, and if fit would likely be in our best 23

jordon has 'played' every game; he'll be the sub again - it's ridiculous that you can 'play' a game when you don't take to the field

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
